Gao Haiming asked Lin Huan'er to wait outside while he went in to face his father, Gao Mingshan. Despite Mingshan’s warnings about gold diggers and his insistence that their recent conversation proved Huan'er’s true colors, Haiming remained unconvinced. As they left the Gao residence together, Huan'er apologized for her blunt remarks to his father. Haiming, however, found her perspective refreshing, agreeing that life and marriage shouldn't be dictated solely by profit.

Huan'er’s decision to return the money Mingshan had previously offered reinforced Haiming's belief that she wasn't after his family's status. After he drove her home, Huan'er was thrilled to see her pager notify her that Haiming’s fondness for her had reached thirty percent. Back at home, Lin Guozheng prepared a large meal for his daughters. Her sister, Lin Le'er, reminded Huan'er of the long cold war she had been having with their father.

Huan'er couldn't even recall the reason for their conflict until Le'er mentioned the sacrifices she once made for Ou Xiaojue. In the past, Huan'er had worked three jobs to save for his tuition, leading to a heated argument where Guozheng slapped her out of frustration. Now, Huan'er firmly promised she would never do such a thing again. Because Gao Mingshan had previously sent people to their home to cause trouble, Guozheng feared his daughter had fallen prey to loan sharks.

He even offered his property deed to help her pay off the debt, but Huan'er surprised him by declaring she wouldn't spend another penny on Ou Xiaojue, leaving her father baffled by her sudden change of heart. The next day, Gao Mingshan prepared for a visit from the Xie family, ordering Haiming to stay home. Soon, Xie Wanjun and her father arrived at the house. While Gao Mingshan was the perfect host, Haiming remained silent and detached.

Sensing her son’s misery, Haiming’s mother found an excuse to take him to the rooftop, telling him he could leave if he truly disliked Wanjun. Meanwhile, at work, Huan'er received a new mobile phone. Finding only one number saved in the contacts, she assumed it was a gift from Zhu Mengmeng and called it to say thanks. However, Haiming had left his phone behind, and Xie Wanjun answered it instead.

Hearing Huan'er’s voice, Wanjun coldly informed her that their families were entering a marriage alliance and warned her to stop being delusional. Distraught by the news of the engagement, Huan'er rushed to the Gao residence and sneaked inside while Gao Mingshan was hosting dinner in the courtyard. Wanjun returned Haiming’s phone to him and mentioned the call from Huan'er. Concerned, Haiming hurried to his room to call her back, only to find Huan'er already there.

She was standing by his door, looking at the shoes she had lost at Rose Manor, which he had carefully kept for her. When Haiming asked why she had broken in, they heard Wanjun approaching the room. In a move to help Haiming avoid Wanjun, Huan'er pulled him into a fake kiss just as Wanjun walked in. Furious at the sight of them together, Wanjun stormed off, while a flustered Huan'er grabbed her shoes and made a quick exit.

Gao Mingshan was livid, blaming Haiming for ruining the relationship between the two families. He demanded that Haiming cut ties with Huan'er, but Haiming stood his ground for the first time. He declared that Letao was the result of his own hard work and that he refused to be a mere puppet of the Fuchuang Group. He told his father that he had followed family orders his entire life, but from now on, he would make his own decisions.

Although Mingshan tried to salvage the partnership by offering the Xies a three percent profit concession, Mr. Xie was unmoved. He made it clear that he prioritized his daughter’s happiness over minor financial gains. Later that night, Huan'er felt a wave of emotion as she looked at the shoes Haiming had packaged for her, though she was confused as to why his fondness level hadn't increased.

In another part of town, Zhu Mengmeng tried to catch Hu Tiehan’s attention during his shift at a traffic post. She faked a car breakdown to get him to drive her to a meeting, but the literal-minded Tiehan simply called a colleague to fix the car, leaving Mengmeng to walk away in frustration. Meanwhile, a crisis hit Letao.

Fuchuang Group made a move to acquire sixty percent of the company's shares, and Wanjun adopted a superior attitude, believing Haiming had no choice but to surrender. The situation worsened when Haiming learned that his R&D head had led the entire team to quit—a clear act of sabotage by Fuchuang. Undeterred, Haiming prepared to fight back by immediately posting job listings and offering five times the standard salary to recruit a new team.

While Zhu Mengmeng realized the marriage was just a cover for Fuchuang's corporate ambitions, Mr. Xie warned Wanjun not to underestimate Haiming, as he would not give up his life's work easily.
