Following Gao Haiming’s return from Italy after a flight delay, he and Lin Huan'er have a tense encounter at the airport. They run into Cheng Die'en, a longtime family friend of Gao’s, who is accompanied by Ou Xiaojue. Die'en introduces Ou as her classmate, but Lin Huan'er immediately recognizes him as her own boyfriend, whom she has been financially supporting while he studied abroad.

Sensing the tension, Gao Haiming introduces Lin as his assistant and pointedly mentions a rumor about a man surnamed Ou who abandoned his long-term girlfriend after going to the UK. Ou Xiaojue, visibly flustered, tries to brush it off, while Die'en tells Gao not to be so nosy. Later, at an apartment Die'en provided for him, Ou Xiaojue manipulates her feelings.

When she asks why he introduced her only as a classmate, he claims he wants to prove himself professionally before facing her parents' potential disapproval. Die'en, completely deceived, promises to help him find a job. Ou Xiaojue then meets Lin Huan'er for a meal, where he plays the victim, complaining that the money she sent was never enough.

He admits that Die'en "moved" him during his lonely nights abroad and suggests a temporary breakup so he can use her status to build a career. Disgusted, Lin Huan'er lashes out at his selfishness, but her outburst triggers a system penalty for altering the story's path. Time rewinds to the moment of the breakup proposal.

This time, Lin Huan'er coolly agrees to the split on the condition that he repays every cent of the tuition and living expenses she provided, with interest. To punctuate the end of their relationship, she hits him before walking away. Cheng Die'en visits Letao to discuss a collaboration for the "Her Series." Gao Haiming is impressed by Lin Huan'er’s "Seeing Women's Needs" slogan and Die'en’s innovative packaging ideas, which include health-tip comics and slogans encouraging fathers to take more responsibility.

During the meeting, Die'en recommends Ou Xiaojue for a position, describing him as a brilliant student from a poor background. Suspicious, Gao asks how long they have been together, and Die'en reveals they have been a couple for nearly three years—the entire time Ou was supposed to be with Lin. During his interview at Letao, Gao Haiming grills Ou Xiaojue on the specifics of his time in the UK.

When caught in lies about his wages and living costs, Ou shamelessly claims his former girlfriend cheated on him, forcing him to find comfort in Die'en. As he leaves the office, Ou notices a text on Gao’s phone from Lin Huan'er thanking him for a phone charm. Enraged and hypocritical, Ou later confronts Lin, accusing her of dumping him for a "richer man."

Ou Xiaojue then gathers their old classmates to spread lies, painting Lin Huan'er as a materialistic woman who abandoned him. Zhu Mengmeng hears about these rumors while out with Hu Tiehan and rushes to the restaurant to confront Ou. She defends Lin’s years of hard work, nearly hitting Ou with a beer bottle in her fury. Ou tries to deflect by pointing to Lin’s "ambiguous" relationship with Gao Haiming.

Hu Tiehan admits to seeing Lin and Gao together in a car, which fuels the gossip, though Mengmeng refuses to believe it. That night, Lin Huan'er comforts a distraught Mengmeng, explaining that she won't waste tears on a cheater and intends to return the favor for the slander he directed at her. Meanwhile, at Letao, Gao Haiming shifts the company’s focus toward the East China market through Xinye.

During a follow-up meeting with Cheng Die'en, Lin Huan'er hands her a comic book titled "The Fool Borrowing Money," created by Mengmeng. She frames it as a request for professional feedback, but the story is a thinly veiled expose of Ou Xiaojue’s exploitation, designed to make Die'en question the man she is supporting.
