Lin Huan’er arrives at a restaurant for the blind date she promised to sabotage on behalf of her friend, Zhu Mengmeng. To her shock, the man sitting across from her is the same person she hired the previous day to help her manufacture a "chance encounter." Determined to drive him away, she adopts a provocative persona, claiming to be a flighty socialite who loves clubbing with her ex-boyfriends.
She even attempts to disgust him by claiming she is eight weeks pregnant. However, Gao Haiming remains unfazed and polite. He explains that his father requires him to marry and have children before inheriting the family business, so her pregnancy actually makes them a "match made in heaven." As Lin Huan’er prepares to leave, Gao Haiming receives a phone call and identifies himself as being from Letao.
Realizing he is her actual target, Lin Huan'er frantically reverses course, admitting she lied about the partying, the exes, and the pregnancy. Gao Haiming is unimpressed, revealing he had already met the real Zhu Mengmeng before and knew she was an impostor. As he walks away, Lin Huan’er’s system alerts her that his fondness for her has plummeted to negative fifty percent—a hellish start to her quest.
Hoping to salvage her reputation, Lin Huan’er stages another meeting in an underground garage. She blocks Gao Haiming’s car with Zhu Mengmeng’s expensive sports car and pretends it has broken down. Gao Haiming sees through the act immediately, pointing out that the seat and steering wheel are not adjusted for her. He coldly advises her that "direction outweighs effort" and that the wrong path makes hard work a waste.
After he leaves, her fondness score drops further to negative eighty percent. Meanwhile, Zhu Mengmeng is baffled by her friend's sudden personality shift. During a meeting with her editor, Zhu plans a new comic focused on a "Hand of God" controlling the fate of fictional characters, unaware that Lin Huan’er is living that very reality. Lin Huan’er tries once more to win him over by approaching Gao Haiming with a fluffy white bunny she claims to have rescued.
This backfires when he begins sneezing uncontrollably due to a severe animal hair allergy. In her haste to help, she uses a system-provided "exclusive item," thinking it is a tissue, only to realize she has handed him a sanitary pad. The extreme awkwardness causes the fondness score to hit negative one hundred percent, triggering a punishment quest. The system accuses her of slacking off and forces her to clean all the building's toilets.
Exhausted, Lin Huan’er learns that since her "love at first sight" mission failed, she must now establish a professional connection. Meanwhile, Gao Haiming is strangely impressed by the quality of the pad Lin Huan’er gave him, noting its softness. He visits a supermarket to research various brands. At a Letao board meeting, he argues that the company’s profit growth for their agency-led diaper brand is slowing.
He proposes that Letao should break its bottleneck by developing its own production lines for feminine hygiene products. Despite the Chairman’s concerns over high costs and risks, Gao Haiming remains determined. Lin Huan’er decides to apply for a job at Letao. She uses a clever trick—trimming her resume so it slips to the top of the pile—to secure an early interview for the position of GM's assistant.
During the interview, she shocks Gao Haiming by speaking of concepts far ahead of the year 1999, such as "unicorn companies," user pain points, AI, big data, and the coming era of online shopping. While Gao Haiming is intrigued by her forward-thinking ideas, he ultimately fails her, stating that an assistant should focus on serving the manager rather than just displaying "small cleverness."
Refusing to give up, Lin Huan’er follows Gao Haiming to his office to apologize, explaining that she feels like a stranger in a foreign land looking for an exit. He assumes she is simply a social climber targeting him or his associate, Mr. Lu. During the conversation, Gao Haiming asks for the brand of the pad she gave him for his research. Lin Huan’er soon realizes she is on her period and has run out of supplies.
When she tries to borrow a pad from the office staff, they are paralyzed by "period shame." Breaking the tension, Gao Haiming personally hands her a pack of pads in front of everyone, causing her fondness score to rise back to negative fifty percent. Though her job hunt failed, Zhu Mengmeng later invites her to a high-profile "Pearl Wedding" banquet for Gao Haiming’s parents, providing Lin Huan’er with another opportunity to get close to him.
