Hu Tiehan took Zhu Mengmeng to a shooting range to help her overcome her stage fright. When Zhu Mengmeng struggled with her aim and grew discouraged, Hu Tiehan shared his own experiences from the police academy. He explained that many recruits have shaky hands because they fear failure and judgment, but he reminded her that true focus comes from blocking out everything but the target.
He encouraged her to apply this same mindset to her singing, treating the stage like the range. Inspired, Zhu Mengmeng regained her composure and showed marked improvement. During a break, Hu Tiehan opened up about his past. He had once dreamed of being a detective like his father, but after his father died in the line of duty, he was consumed by fear.
While a mentor helped him realize that fear is a natural emotion rather than a sign of cowardice, he ultimately stepped away from that career path out of consideration for his mother’s feelings. Despite this, he told Zhu Mengmeng that he still saw her as the same "shining" girl he remembered from their school days, urging her to sing for herself and those who truly support her.
At Letao, Lin Huan’er’s unconventional marketing strategy—featuring Gao Haiming as a celebrity spokesperson for sanitary pads in a magazine—finally began to drive sales. However, the campaign sparked a confrontation when Gao Mingshan arrived at the office, furious that his son was "embarrassing" the family by endorsing such a product. Gao Haiming defended the decision, pointing out the hypocrisy of profiting from the products while being ashamed to represent them.
Lin Huan’er’s staunch defense of the campaign further impressed Gao Haiming, causing his fondness for her to rise to 88%. The argument was cut short by a call from Lin Guozheng, who reported that Lin Le'er had gone missing. Lin Huan’er and Gao Haiming rushed to search for her. Recalling a previous conversation about Ou Xiaojue trying to lure Le'er to a park in the south, they headed to the secluded location.
After finding Le'er’s backpack near a lake, they discovered her tied up in a nearby warehouse. Ou Xiaojue, spiraling into despair after losing his chance to marry into the wealthy Cheng family, blamed Lin Huan’er for his failures and demanded 400,000 yuan as "compensation." Before he could harm Le'er, Gao Haiming intervened and knocked him down.
During the struggle, Gao Haiming shielded Lin Huan’er from a swinging chair, taking the blow himself before the police, who had been monitoring the situation, moved in to arrest Ou Xiaojue. Gao Haiming was hospitalized with soft tissue injuries to his back. While he rested, Lin Huan’er confronted the "System" in a moment of guilt, accusing it of manipulating Ou Xiaojue into violence just to accelerate the plot.
The System coldly dismissed her concerns, reminding her that everyone in this world was merely a "paper person" in a fictional story that would vanish once she woke up. Despite the System's logic, Lin Huan’er found herself wishing the "dream" would last longer so she wouldn't have to lose her connection with Gao Haiming. In the rush of leaving the hospital to look after Le'er, Lin Huan’er accidentally left her pager behind.
The next morning, Gao Haiming found the device and saw it flashing with a notification that his fondness for her had reached 95%, though he was unable to decipher the system's message. Later, while being driven home by Luo Zhou, Gao Haiming expressed his confusion over why a girl who clearly shared his feelings would still act as if there were no future for them.
Luo Zhou suggested it might be a matter of self-doubt, but Gao Haiming knew Lin Huan’er was far too confident for that. Insisting on working from home, Gao Haiming had Luo Zhou arrange for Lin Huan’er to bring documents to his house to assist with annotations. While working together, Lin Huan’er helped change the bandages on his back. Gao Haiming took the opportunity to pull her close, questioning why she was so hesitant to admit her feelings.
Lin Huan’er, relying on her psychology background, tried to label her behavior as "avoidant attachment," but Gao Haiming simply promised to wait for her, no matter how many "tomorrows" it took. Finally, the day of the singing competition arrived. Backstage, Zhu Mengmeng was a bundle of nerves until she received a supportive message from Hu Tiehan, reminding her that simply standing on that stage was a victory. With his words echoing in her mind, she stepped out for her audition, finally ready to let her voice be heard.
