Gao Haiming and Lin Huan'er set off on a vacation, finding a quiet moment to share a meal together. Haiming produced a seashell sent by his mother, Mei Yunzhi, from Hainan. Since the divorce, Mei Yunzhi had been recovering by the sea, and surprisingly, Gao Mingshan had stayed by her side to care for her. Their relationship had actually improved since they parted ways, a turn of events that brought Haiming a sense of relief.
He confessed to Huan'er that he wished he had told his mother his true thoughts much sooner. Now that his mother was finally learning to let go of her burdens, Haiming expressed a desire to live more freely and experience things he had previously missed. Seeking to fulfill this wish, Huan'er took him to a roller skating rink, noting how popular the activity was at the turn of the millennium.
Though she claimed to have practiced quite a bit in the past, Huan'er found herself rather rusty and struggled to maintain her balance. Haiming, however, proved to be a natural; after observing the other skaters for only a few minutes, he mastered the technique and ended up acting as Huan'er’s instructor. That evening, as they returned to the hotel, their assistant Luo Zhou informed them that one of their two reserved rooms required emergency maintenance.
With no other local vacancies, the couple shared a single room, and in the intimacy of the night, they fully committed themselves to one another. The night of the Voice of Dreams grand finals arrived, and Hu Tiehan managed to watch the live broadcast while on duty near a newsstand. After Zhu Mengmeng finished her captivating performance, she used the "loved ones call" segment of the show to reach out to Tiehan.
On national television, she thanked him for the encouragement that gave her the courage to stand on that stage and confessed her love for him. Moved to tears, Tiehan finally found his own courage. He admitted that he had loved her for a long time but always felt unworthy, like mere dust compared to her bright spotlight. He promised that as long as she didn't mind his shortcomings, he would stay by her side forever.
The four friends gathered to celebrate Mengmeng's success. As they toasted to their bond, Mengmeng suggested heading to the square to ring in the new year. Tiehan joked that as a new star, she would be mobbed by fans before the countdown even began. Haiming then proposed taking a group photo and asked Huan'er to set the camera timer.
As she stepped back to the group after adjusting the camera, Haiming suddenly dropped to one knee and presented an engagement ring, asking her to walk with him into the future. Just as the clock struck midnight and the crowd’s countdown reached its peak, a truck suddenly careened into the square and struck Haiming.
In the ensuing chaos, a devastated Huan'er began to scream that the world was merely a dream and everyone around her was a fictional character, revealing that she was actually a traveler from the year 2025. Her pager immediately began to vibrate with a dire warning: because she had used her final "spoiler" to reveal the game's truth, she would face the maximum penalty. When the scene settled moments later, only Mengmeng and Tiehan remained by her side.
When Huan'er frantically asked where Haiming was, they looked at her with total confusion, having no idea who she was talking about. The system confirmed her punishment: all memories linking Gao Haiming and Lin Huan'er had been erased. Returning home in despair, Huan'er collapsed on the stairs in tears. When her sister, Lin Le'er, returned and asked what was wrong, she was equally baffled by the mention of Haiming, claiming she had never heard of such a person.
The next morning, Huan'er walked into the Letao office, only to find that her colleagues treated her as a stranger. Luo Zhou vaguely recalled seeing her delivering documents but informed her that her workstation was actually located on the first floor. When Haiming walked past her in the hallway, he didn't even glance her way.
Despite the crushing weight of being forgotten, Huan'er vowed to herself that she would find a way to make him fall in love with her all over again. Meanwhile, Tiehan sustained some superficial wounds while assisting the criminal police squad with a major case. A worried Mengmeng rushed to his side, initially demanding that he stop helping the police to ensure his safety.
However, she soon realized she was being selfish; Tiehan had supported her dreams, and she felt she should do the same for him. She ultimately agreed to let him take on special assignments, provided he promised to protect himself. Huan'er continued her efforts to stay in Haiming's orbit by delivering files to his office, though Luo Zhou tried to stop her, suggesting she only report to the department manager.
Knowing Haiming's hobbies, she followed him to a model shop where he often spent his spare time. She made a point of buying a model for herself and approached him with a request to help her assemble a "Wild Weasel" fighter jet. Haiming, who only remembered her as the business contact for Yunsheng, found it difficult to refuse her earnest request.
However, a new crisis soon emerged at Letao as reports leaked that the company’s new products had serious quality issues, causing health problems for some consumers. As the person who oversaw the product line, Haiming was summoned by the board and faced the very real possibility of being dismissed from his position.
