At the dinner table, Gao Haiming formally introduces himself to Lin Guozheng as Lin Huan'er’s boyfriend. Guozheng is delighted and brings out a special bottle of wine he has saved since Huan'er was in elementary school, insisting that they share it to celebrate the New Year. Haiming presents his gifts: a hand string for Guozheng and a specialized model for Lin Le'er that can record plant growth with an internal camera.

Le'er is thrilled that she no longer has to rely on manual drawings for her botanical studies. When asked how he knew their specific interests, Haiming jokingly claims he can foretell the future. Guozheng is so impressed by the young man that he keeps piling ribs—his signature dish—into Haiming's bowl. Later, Guozheng inquires about Haiming's position at the company.

When Haiming modestly describes himself as being in management, Guozheng encourages him to work hard so he can stand on equal footing with Huan'er, who is already a CEO's special assistant. Haiming promises to strive for excellence and vows never to let Huan'er suffer or shed a single tear.

After the meal, as Lin Guozheng heads to the kitchen to clean up, Huan'er leans affectionately on Haiming's shoulder, asking what the two men discussed, while Le'er secretly captures a photo of the happy couple. Later, while the two are resting at Haiming's home after a long day of shopping, Huan'er feels a jewelry box in Haiming's pocket.

Fearing he is about to propose—an act that would trigger her departure from this world—she frantically tries to change the subject by offering to cut some fruit. However, Haiming reveals the box contains a pair of earrings his mother, Mei Yunzhi, bought as a New Year's gift for her. Haiming then takes Huan'er to his fighter model shop, where he has decorated a secret room with forget-me-nots to create a romantic atmosphere for a proposal.

Huan'er stops him before he can ask the question, telling him she wants more time together and suggests he propose on New Year's Eve instead. She reasons that even if the world were to end at that moment, she would have no regrets. However, the system soon issues a warning through her pager. Because she has repeatedly blocked Haiming's proposal, a 72-hour countdown has begun.

If she fails to complete the mission within three days, the world of everyone she knows will collapse. Realizing she cannot change the system, Huan'er decides to cherish these final 72 hours with Haiming. The couple joins Zhu Mengmeng and Hu Tiehan for a meal at a restaurant where the latter pair is testing dishes for their upcoming wedding. Mengmeng teases them about their slow progress and urges them to hurry up.

On the way home, Huan'er tells Haiming that she can foresee the future, predicting his professional success and that Dr. Wei Dazhuang will become a leader in his field. She then shares a premonition of a disaster awaiting Hu Tiehan the next day and asks Haiming to help her keep Tiehan safe for the sake of the wedding. The next morning, Huan'er calls Hu Tiehan and insists he take leave from work to help with wedding preparations.

She drags him to the hotel to discuss every minor detail, from the types of beverages—ranging from Tieguanyin and Dahongpao to various flower teas—to the color of the bouquet ribbons and the placement of fireworks. Tiehan is restless and constantly receives calls from his colleagues, but Haiming keeps him occupied by suggesting he consider changing careers to provide a more stable life for Mengmeng.

While they are talking, Tiehan receives word of a major explosion on the street where he was supposed to be on duty. Since he was at the hotel instead, he narrowly escapes the blast. Huan'er breathes a sigh of relief, hoping that if Tiehan's fate can be rewritten, perhaps her own ending with Haiming can be changed as well.

Tiehan returns home safely to Mengmeng, and the two share a tender moment on the couch, imagining their future married life as one of simple, peaceful routines. Later, Huan'er accompanies Mengmeng to try on wedding dresses. As she watches her best friend look stunning in white, Huan'er begins to dream of her own wedding. Suddenly, Mengmeng receives a phone call—Tiehan has been injured in the line of duty.

They rush to the hospital with Haiming, but the doctor eventually emerges from the operating room with a look of regret, stating that they did their best to save him. A devastated Mengmeng spends her days drawing portraits of Tiehan, while Huan'er realizes that some outcomes truly cannot be altered. She asks Haiming what he would do if they only had 24 hours left together.

Haiming comforts her, saying that as long as they have truly loved each other, those memories will be enough to warm the rest of their lives. For their final day, Haiming takes her to make coffee, recreating the taste of the Left Bank of the Seine. Huan'er remarks that taste is the most enduring sense in human memory and vows to remember this flavor forever.

They go roller skating, where Haiming shows off how much he has improved, and visit a game center. At a photo sticker booth, they try on different virtual accessories and use a filter to see what they would look like as an old couple. Haiming looks at the photos and tells Huan'er that she will be just as beautiful when she is old. As the final hours approach, they head out to share one last meal.
