Upon his return to Mount Jiuxi, Zi Xuan discovered Xiao Bai was gone. On his table, he found a letter from her, riddled with mistakes. He noticed words like "learned" instead of "earned," "tough consideration" used instead of "thorough consideration," and a turtle drawn to represent "return."

Rather than being anxious about Xiao Bai’s disappearance, Zi Xuan calmly took the time to correct the errors in the letter, musing that he would have to make her work harder starting tomorrow due to the many mistakes she made. Unbeknownst to Zi Xuan, Xiao Bai had not actually left Mount Jiuxi. She was hiding in the same room, secretly observing his reaction to her letter.

As she watched Zi Xuan’s calm demeanor, she wondered why he wasn't worried, and questioned if he would even look for her. If he didn't care about her, she thought, then perhaps she shouldn't stay in Mount Jiuxi, just as Sister Crane had suggested. Just as Xiao Bai was considering leaving, Zi Xuan’s Tianji Sword suddenly flew erratically and was about to strike him.

In a moment of panic, Xiao Bai rushed forward to shield him, her wrist getting pierced in the process. Zi Xuan quickly regained control of his sword and the situation. He explained that a fragment of Tao Tie’s soul had lingered and caused the sword to act up. Xiao Bai, seeing Zi Xuan unharmed, urged him to pursue Tao Tie immediately.

However, Zi Xuan prioritized her injury, stating that as long as Tao Tie remained in the Empyrean Heaven, he would eventually catch him, but for now, healing her injury was the most important task. He chided her for being foolish, questioning her ability to protect him and calling her either bold or naive. Xiao Bai, however, dismissed her injury as minor and again insisted he pursue Tao Tie.

As he treated her wound, Zi Xuan asked why she had wanted to leave Mount Jiuxi. She confessed it was a test to see if he cared enough to look for her. Zi Xuan cautioned her that a person's heart cannot endure tests and assumptions, telling her never to do something like that again. Xiao Bai, wondering if she had made another mistake, silently vowed to remember his words.

Zi Xuan then expressed his desire for her to live a carefree and happy life, to which Xiao Bai replied that she would be very happy as long as she was with him. He then advised her to rest, noting that even a minor injury could have lingering effects. Later, Xiao Bai asked Zi Xuan to stay with her; he promised to leave only after she fell asleep.

Though Zi Xuan suffered nightly from a crack in his primordial spirit, causing him striking pain in his heart and bones, he continued his duties. One day, Xiao Bai, now recovered, spotted Zi Xuan leaving and rushed out with his umbrella, concerned he might catch a cold. Zi Xuan gently scolded her for leaving her room before fully recovering. Xiao Bai cheerfully presented him with a peach blossom, explaining that Sister Crane had given it to her.

She noted that Mount Jiuxi, being covered in snow year-round, never saw such blooms, expressing her joy at giving him something so beautiful. Zi Xuan, seeing her happiness, realized she had never witnessed a peach blossom in full bloom. Later, Zi Xuan discussed his plan to take Xiao Bai to Penglai Heavenly Mountain with Ling Chu so she could experience a mountain full of peach blossoms.

Ling Chu strongly opposed the idea, emphasizing the strict rules of the Penglai Heavenly Mountain School and the potential trouble with the Herb Deity. Zi Xuan assured him he would handle any issues, reiterating his desire for Xiao Bai to see the blooming peach trees, which she treasured so much. Ling Chu commented on Zi Xuan’s apparent favoritism towards Xiao Bai.

Zi Xuan, however, reflected that he might have been too harsh on her, wondering if she was struggling with her studies. Upon their arrival at Penglai Heavenly Mountain, Xiao Bai was captivated by the beautiful peach blossoms, exclaiming how wonderful they were, especially at night. Zi Xuan playfully teased her about her earlier pretense of not caring.

Xiao Bai, giggling, admitted she was lying and confessed that she had only been trying to "put herself in others' shoes and think about others," just as he had taught her. She then expressed that no matter how beautiful Penglai was, it could never compare to Mount Jiuxi, because Mount Jiuxi had Zi Xuan, and that was enough for her. As she conveyed her heartfelt emotions, Zi Xuan clutched his chest in pain from his primordial spirit injury.

Xiao Bai, noticing his discomfort, worried she had said something wrong, but Zi Xuan quickly recovered and reassured her. Unable to contain her feelings, Xiao Bai embraced him. This tender moment was observed by Sister Crane, a look of jealousy flashing in her eyes. The Green Emperor soon discovered the special care Zi Xuan had for Xiao Bai, evident from a painting of her.

Concerned for his disciple's future, the Green Emperor questioned Zi Xuan about his primordial spirit injury, noting that with Tao Tie’s limited strength, Zi Xuan should not have been so severely wounded. He suspected Zi Xuan had intentionally allowed himself to be injured to avoid ascension and subsequent seclusion in Mount Jiuxi.

Zi Xuan explained that he carefully considered how to deal with Tao Tie, deciding to sever Tao Tie's deity seed to prevent his return to the deity world and to avoid further innocent victims, given the White Emperor's favoritism. The Green Emperor, seeing through Zi Xuan's elaborate explanation, directly accused him of doing it on purpose to prevent becoming a deity and leaving Mount Jiuxi.

The Green Emperor then confronted Zi Xuan about his feelings, asking if he had fallen in love. Zi Xuan emphatically denied it, including any feelings for Xiao Bai. Unconvinced, the Green Emperor ordered Xiao Bai to be expelled from Mount Jiuxi, stating she was meant to cultivate in Mount Li. Zi Xuan, who had always been obedient to the Green Emperor, unexpectedly defied the order. He humbly asked for forgiveness, stating he could not obey this command.

However, for Xiao Bai's safety, Zi Xuan then pretended he had let go of all emotions and had not fallen in love. Unbeknownst to them, Xiao Bai overheard this painful exchange from outside the door and left heartbroken. Ling Chu, having fought alongside Zi Xuan for a thousand years, reminded him of his past ambition to become a deity and uphold justice.

He questioned if enduring the nightly agony from his primordial spirit injury was truly worth it for a mere snake demon, whom he regarded as Zi Xuan's calamity. Ling Chu warned that Zi Xuan's body and soul could dissolve into heaven and earth, potentially harming both him and Xiao Bai. Zi Xuan, however, firmly declared that he believed man could master his own destiny, rejecting the idea of Xiao Bai being his "calamity."

He also made it clear to Ling Chu that while he appreciated his concern, he would not tolerate any harm coming to Xiao Bai. Sister Crane, noticing Xiao Bai's sadness, confirmed that Zi Xuan had denied having feelings for her and that the Green Emperor had ordered her expulsion. Xiao Bai expressed her understanding of Zi Xuan’s predicament and her desire to help him recover before she left Mount Jiuxi.

Seizing the opportunity, Sister Crane mentioned the Icy Lingzhi of Eastern Sea, kept in the Elixir Chamber, as a potent medicine for Zi Xuan's recovery. She noted it was odorless and tasteless, perfect for slipping into a drink. Sister Crane, however, also warned Xiao Bai that taking something without permission was theft, a serious offense that would only bring more trouble to Zi Xuan. Despite the warning, Xiao Bai declared her willingness to accept any punishment for Zi Xuan's sake.

Sacred Lady Lishan visited Zi Xuan, expressing concern for his primordial spirit. Zi Xuan confided in her, admitting that he was moved by Xiao Bai, describing her as the only spring in the perpetually snowy Mount Jiuxi, whose beauty even a thousand years of snow could not conceal. Sacred Lady Lishan provided him with an ice crystal, formed at the meeting point of Yin and Yang during ancient times, which she believed could heal his primordial spirit.

She encouraged him to follow his heart, adding that cultivators defy nature, and perhaps the predetermined fates could be overturned. Determined to help Zi Xuan, Xiao Bai snuck into the Elixir Chamber to find the Icy Lingzhi. She located it in the first elixir furnace. Unbeknownst to her, the warding charm on a nearby furnace had been blown away, and the Black Dragon, previously imprisoned by Zi Xuan, was confined within it.

After successfully acquiring the elixir, Xiao Bai placed it into Zi Xuan’s teacup and watched him drink it, finally feeling relieved. Later, Xiao Bai expressed her yearning to be a "real human" and to have a proper name, not just "Xiao Bai," the name for a little white snake. She wanted to be recognized for her ability to cry, laugh, feel angry, and experience pain, and asked Zi Xuan to give her a name and treat her as a human.

Zi Xuan promised to consider a name for her after she had mastered zither, chess, calligraphy, and painting, thus becoming fully human in every aspect. Xiao Bai internally wished to stay by his side as a human, even if only for a short time before her inevitable departure. Soon after, the Black Dragon escaped from the Elixir Chamber, cutting off the water supply to West Lake and causing distress to the common people.

Zi Xuan and Ling Chu immediately set out to capture it. Zi Xuan, as punishment for her unauthorized entry into the Elixir Chamber, bound Xiao Bai with a celestial string. Despite this, Xiao Bai pleaded with Sister Crane to unfasten the string, desperate to help Zi Xuan, who was still injured. She recalled how she had protected him from the Tianji Sword before and believed she could help him again.

Sister Crane refused, reminding Xiao Bai that Zi Xuan himself had tied the string and ordered her to guard Xiao Bai. Meanwhile, Zi Xuan and Ling Chu prepared to confront the Black Dragon. Ling Chu, worried about Zi Xuan's injured primordial spirit, offered to handle the Black Dragon alone, but Zi Xuan insisted on fighting together, planning for Ling Chu to distract the Black Dragon while he cut off its tail to weaken it.
