To test Bai Yaoyao's abilities, Xu Xuan risked his own life by intentionally poisoning himself. After Bai Yaoyao promptly cured him, Xu Xuan acknowledged her competence. He then informed her that if she could use her magical prowess to cure Leng Ning, he would return Xiao Qing. He emphasized that Leng Ning, the former Apothecary House master's daughter, was under his care and no harm must come to her.

Qing Feng, concerned that Xu Xuan had tested the poison on himself, expressed regret that Bai Yaoyao hadn't been used for the test, stating that if Bai Yaoyao hadn't saved him, he would have had to "go to the King of Hell to chart a path for Leng Ning." Xu Xuan instructed Qing Feng to set up a fireplace in Leng Ning's room to protect her from the penetrating cold.

Bai Yaoyao, while observing Xu Xuan, noted his striking resemblance to Zi Xuan but felt they were vastly different. Meanwhile, Mrs. Li, concerned that Leng Ning remained unconscious, suspected an evil influence. She convinced her husband, Constable Li, to visit Demon Hunter Ville, believing Master Yuan Yi could help subdue any lurking demons.

Upon their arrival, Master Yuan Yi was counseling a carp demon, Hong Xin, reminding her of the natural divide between humans and demons and the consequences of defying heavenly laws. The carp demon, however, insisted her love was true and, refusing his advice, revealed her true form and departed. Qi Xiao returned to Demon Hunter Ville, inquiring about Leng Ning's condition at the Apothecary House.

Master Yuan Yi, calm, told Qi Xiao to stay out of the matter, revealing a divination that showed Qi Xiao could not subdue the green snake now, as it was a matter of fate. He assured Qi Xiao that Leng Ning would be fine, helped by a benefactor. Qi Xiao, suspecting this benefactor to be Bai Yaoyao, pressed Yuan Yi for more information about her.

Yuan Yi dismissed his questions and ordered Qi Xiao to guard the elixir furnace while he went to collect herbs, overriding Qi Xiao's initial reluctance and commitment to Xu Xuan. At the Apothecary House, Bai Yaoyao discovered a powerful magical barrier in the Fiery Ground and wondered why such a place existed there. Xu Xuan explained that the Fiery Ground's climate remained constant year-round, making it ideal for decocting medicines, and many Apothecary House disciples had entered it before.

He recounted his master's observation that despite the constant fire, the ground remained cold, a phenomenon against natural order. Bai Yaoyao realized that the barrier allowed only humans to enter without revealing their true form, while demons would transform. She decided to shed her magical prowess to enter as a human, using the barrier to extract her spiritual marble and cure Leng Ning's poison, thus fulfilling her promise to Xu Xuan without revealing her true identity.

She requested Xu Xuan to ensure no one disturbed them during the process, and he agreed. Escaping from a dungeon where Qi Xiao had imprisoned her with the Demon Dagger, Xiao Qing complained about her hunger and expressed her determination to break free. Soon after, Xiao Hui appeared, offering her food and a grand opportunity.

He informed her that Bai Yaoyao was using her spiritual marble to save Leng Ning in the cave, presenting it as a chance to seize the marble and gain immense power. Xiao Qing, initially suspicious of Xiao Hui's motives and sudden appearance, questioned his sincerity.

Unbeknownst to Xiao Qing, Xiao Hui was acting under the coercion of Tao Tie, who had kidnapped Xiao Hui's family and ordered him to seize Bai Yaoyao's spiritual marble while her power was at its weakest. Tao Tie had even provided Xiao Hui with a mysterious artifact to aid him. Xiao Hui, convincing Xiao Qing that with the spiritual marble, they would no longer be bullied by the Apothecary House and Qi Xiao, successfully swayed her.

Bai Yaoyao, weakened as she extracted the poison, was unaware of the approaching danger. Xiao Hui urged Xiao Qing to take action, reminding her that Bai Yaoyao was using her thousand-year spiritual marble for a human. Xiao Qing, believing demons should prioritize themselves and unite against humans, seized the spiritual marble from Bai Yaoyao. Bai Yaoyao called out to Xiao Qing, questioning her intentions.

Xiao Qing retorted that Bai Yaoyao was too careless to let her spiritual marble leave her body for a human, especially after Bai Yaoyao had sided with humans to imprison her. Xiao Hui then claimed that a powerful "fate" was attached to the spiritual marble and it would harm Xiao Qing, but Xiao Qing dismissed this, declaring she didn't believe in fate.

She then ordered Xiao Hui to abduct the unconscious Leng Ning, leaving Bai Yaoyao severely injured and helpless on the ground. As Xiao Qing and Xiao Hui made their escape from the Fiery Ground, Xiao Qing tossed Tao Tie's artifact into the flames, causing the fire to roar and intensify dramatically. Xiao Hui, worried about their safety as they were now in mortal forms, urged Xiao Qing to leave the still-incapacitated Bai Yaoyao.

Meanwhile, in a distant location, Tao Tie rejoiced, proclaiming that his thousand-year wait was over and vowing vengeance on Zi Xuan. At the Apothecary House, the sudden surge of flames and demon aura from the Fiery Ground alarmed Xu Xuan. He questioned if the intense fire could be Bai Yaoyao's doing alone, and expressed concern for Leng Ning. Shortly after, a disciple reported that Xiao Qing, having escaped the dungeon, sent a message warning of danger inside the Fiery Ground.

Xu Xuan, connecting the dots, ordered the immediate capture of Xiao Qing, suspecting her involvement in the chaos and questioning how she escaped and knew about the Fiery Ground. Inside the raging Fiery Ground, Bai Yaoyao struggled to cling to life, determined to survive and save Leng Ning, upholding her promise to Xu Xuan and not wanting him to belittle her. Xu Xuan, ignoring his disciples' pleas, plunged into the inferno himself.

He found Bai Yaoyao, who was overcome with emotion, believing him to be Zi Xuan. She confessed her deep fear of losing him again, of being alone, and of an endless search for his spirit, begging him never to leave her. Xu Xuan, though his identity was unclear to her at the moment, reassured her of his presence.

He carried her out of the Fiery Ground, but the intense heat and the ordeal caused both to collapse unconscious as Apothecary House disciples rushed to their aid. When asked about Leng Ning, a dazed Xu Xuan could only utter her name. At the cliffside, Xiao Qing struggled to carry Leng Ning, complaining about her weight. Leng Ning then fell from Xiao Qing's grasp.

Xiao Qing, momentarily forgetting her magical prowess, was spurred by Xiao Hui to remember it and quickly rescued Leng Ning from further harm. Later, Xiao Hui, fearing repercussions from the Apothecary House if Leng Ning were dead, worried about being hunted. Xiao Qing, meanwhile, was more concerned about Bai Yaoyao's fate, wondering if she had escaped. Suddenly, Qi Xiao confronted Xiao Qing, accusing the "snake demon" of causing trouble and attempting to subdue her.

Master Yuan Yi appeared, chastising Qi Xiao for abandoning his duties to watch the elixir furnace. Yuan Yi warned Xiao Qing that the spiritual marble she consumed carried a "Fate of Seven Prowesses" and was already consuming her, threatening her life if not immediately expelled. As Xiao Qing began to cough blood, Qi Xiao was momentarily distracted, allowing Xiao Qing to escape. Seeking answers, Bai Yaoyao journeyed to Mount Jiuxi and consulted the Green Emperor.

She asked if Xu Xuan, who saved her in the Fiery Ground, was truly Zi Xuan. The Green Emperor explicitly denied it, stating it was merely "an illusion created by the demon in her heart" and that the person who saved her was indeed Xu Xuan, a mortal who only resembled Zi Xuan. He reminded her that she herself had examined Xu Xuan's consciousness and should know he possessed none of Zi Xuan's aura.

Bai Yaoyao, heartbroken, pressed for the truth about Zi Xuan's soul, asking if the Soul Collecting Light had managed to gather it. The Green Emperor firmly stated that the "Soul Collecting Light is already broken, Zi Xuan will never come back," and advised her to leave the Apothecary House and Xu Xuan, abandoning her obsession with the fantasy. Back in her room at the Apothecary House, Bai Yaoyao was confronted by Xu Xuan, who questioned her recent disappearance.

He noted the stark difference between them, remarking that she had rekindled her hopes in the Fiery Ground, but it was "only an illusion." Xu Xuan then directly challenged her, accusing her of being the demon who entered his room previously, not Xiao Qing, as her pulse was like a demon's—slow and heavy—and her aura was distinctly different from Xiao Qing's.

Bai Yaoyao admitted she was a cultivator, explaining her pulse, and accepted full responsibility for Xiao Qing's actions, including Leng Ning's disappearance. She then departed, promising an explanation to the Apothecary House and agreeing that Xiao Qing would be at their disposal if Leng Ning were harmed. Xu Xuan acknowledged the personal risk Bai Yaoyao took in the Fiery Ground to save Leng Ning, and implicitly, himself.

He added that the favor of her saving him was a separate matter for the future, but made it clear that she would be expected to "straighten this out" regarding Leng Ning. Meanwhile, Xiao Qing realized she needed to find Bai Yaoyao immediately to remove the spiritual marble, or face dire consequences. Before she could, she was surrounded by Apothecary House disciples. They demanded to know Leng Ning's location and what she had done to her.

Despite her resistance and demand to see Bai Yaoyao first, the disciples prepared to execute the demon on the spot. At the same time, Bai Yaoyao successfully located Leng Ning at the bottom of a cliff and fully healed her.
