Bai Yaoyao, now blind, believed her husband Xu Xuan had been ordered to sever their emotions. Deciding to act first, she requested the Wind Up Herb from Sister Crane. As Xu Xuan approached with the herb, Bai Yaoyao, unaware of his presence, poured out her heart to what she thought was the Crane Sister.
She reminisced about the zither given to her by Zi Xuan a thousand years ago, recalling every detail of his patient teaching and the gentle warmth of his hand. She spoke of her deep love for Xu Xuan, expressing her fear of death and the profound regret of either leaving him alone or being left by him.
Her sole wish before entering Leifeng Pagoda was for Xu Xuan to live a peaceful life, bless the people, and bring peace to the world. She thanked the "Crane Sister" before preparing to drink the herb that would cut off her love and emotions. Just as Bai Yaoyao was about to consume the Wind Up Herb, Xu Xuan shattered the bowl. Bai Yaoyao, startled, realized it was him.
Ashamed of her blind state, she tried to hide but stumbled, her body curling in pain. Xu Xuan was heartbroken by her distress. Bai Yaoyao pleaded with him for a divorce paper, asserting her fault for Lin'an City's suffering and urging him to abandon his "unrealistic oaths" so they could be separated forever. Xu Xuan adamantly refused, reminding her of his oath a thousand years ago to protect her throughout his life.
He declared that if she was truly resolved to end their bond, she should be the one to write the divorce paper and proclaim her heartlessness before all of Empyrean Heaven, proving that "she" broke their vows, not him. Xu Xuan shared that he had already pleaded with the Heavenly Emperor and confirmed he would personally escort her to Leifeng Pagoda, considering it their last journey as husband and wife.
He reminded her of their initial meeting at the Broken Bridge and his unwavering promise to always be there for her, no matter what. Meanwhile, Fa Hai kept Xiao Qing's spiritual pearl strung with his Buddhist beads, reciting sutras daily, contemplating that Xiao Qing might not know of his devotion. Xiao Hui, one of the little demons, pointed out that if Mountain Queen (Xiao Qing) were aware of Lady Bai’s suffering, she would not idly stand by.
Fa Hai, understanding Xiao Qing's protective nature, vowed to do everything in his power to protect Bai Yaoyao, no matter the difficulty. He also mentioned that Xu Xuan would handle Bai Yaoyao's entry into the pagoda without breaking heavenly rules. To further aid Bai Yaoyao, Fa Hai instructed Xiao Hui to gather the little demons in the Hall of Majestic. There, he taught them to engrave Sanskrit Seals onto their spiritual marbles.
Despite the severe headaches caused by the process, the little demons endured the pain, listening to Fa Hai's sutras, determined to help Lady Bai. As Xu Xuan prepared for the perilous journey, he sought counsel, affirming his unwavering commitment. He stated that he cared not for the price of his actions, as his only wish was to protect mortals and restore his wife's sight, considering other losses insignificant.
The Heavenly Emperor, reflecting on his own choice to drink the Wind Up Herb for impartiality, admitted his error in believing heartlessness was not a punishment. He observed the profound and rich love exemplified by beings like the Qilin, a feeling he, despite his immortal life, would never experience. Though they walked different paths, he left Xu Xuan to decide his own fate, advising him not to regret it in the future.
As the sun rose high, signaling the weakest point of the demonic aura, Xiaoxiang urged Bai Yaoyao to enter Leifeng Pagoda. Fa Hai suddenly arrived, intercepting them. He adamantly refused to let Xu Xuan sacrifice himself, haunted by the helplessness he felt when Xiao Qing died. Fa Hai asserted his capability to block the magic barrier, recalling his past cooperation with Zi Xuan.
Though Xiaoxiang warned that Xu Xuan would never permit him to take such a risk, Fa Hai insisted they conceal his plan from Xu Xuan, confessing that Xu Xuan was the one person he wished to protect from tragedy. As a devoted follower of Buddhism, Fa Hai, with his peaceful mind undisturbed by evil, declared his intention to accompany Bai Yaoyao into the pagoda, using the Heart Sutra to restrain her inner devil.
He swore to protect her, pledging that the evil spirit must wound him first, and if he failed, he would be annihilated. Bai Yaoyao vehemently objected, claiming it was her own affair, but Fa Hai insisted on overseeing her to prevent her from succumbing to devilry. He also implied that Xiao Qing would not approve of Bai Yaoyao’s decision to face this alone. Fa Hai positioned himself to prevent Xu Xuan from interfering.
Inside the Leifeng Pagoda, Bai Yaoyao immediately felt the oppressive demonic energy. Fa Hai, reciting sutras, urged her to remain calm and focus on good thoughts, offering his Buddhist beads to help suppress her demon character. He warned that if the evil aura consumed her heart, she would suffer eternal torment. Bai Yaoyao, in a moment of despair, asked Fa Hai to kill her swiftly if she succumbed to devilry.
However, while focused on protecting Bai Yaoyao, Fa Hai was himself invaded by the demonic energy, which released his own evil side. This evil manifestation, or a demonic voice speaking through him, began questioning why she clung to her love, reminding her of her past failures, blaming her for the Lin'an tragedy, and tempting her to forget everything to escape her suffering.
Overwhelmed, Bai Yaoyao began to agree, admitting her fault and believing even ten thousand deaths could not atone for her sins. At that critical moment, the little demons, having successfully imprinted Sanskrit Seals onto their spiritual marbles, used their collective power to send a psychic call. Their voices echoed, urging both Fa Hai and Lady Bai to awaken. Fa Hai, roused from his trance, immediately helped Bai Yaoyao.
He reminded her of her name, Bai Yaoyao, given by Xu Xuan, and her original purpose for cultivation. He recounted Xu Xuan’s promise to wait for her by Leifeng Pagoda until West Lake dried and the pagoda collapsed.
This vivid recollection awakened Bai Yaoyao, who finally understood Xu Xuan’s true reason for preventing her from cutting off her emotions: without ties to the world, without concern, she would lack the will to fight the evil spirit for ten thousand years within the pagoda. Xu Xuan was her conviction, her everything, and remembering him ignited her fighting spirit. Unbeknownst to Bai Yaoyao, Xu Xuan had indeed followed them into the pagoda.
He had used his power to shield her directly from the demonic energy, making her wonder why she could no longer feel its pressure, believing she and Fa Hai had already overcome the barrier. Xu Xuan telepathically instructed Fa Hai to guard the outside of the pagoda, begging him to leave the interior to him so he could continue protecting Bai Yaoyao.
As the demonic energy dissipated from around Bai Yaoyao, Xu Xuan sustained serious injuries, and his blood splattered onto her face. Blind, she reached out, asking who was hurt and believing Fa Hai had been wounded protecting her. As her hand grazed the head of the injured person, she touched Xu Xuan’s hair, realizing the truth of his sacrifice.
