Xu Xuan and Fa Hai were trapped within the Golden Mountain Temple, battling Zhan Huang amidst the Red Lotus Karmic Fire. Xu Xuan urged Fa Hai to hold on, but Fa Hai feared the fire was unstoppable. Zhan Huang declared the fire would only subside after their deaths.
Despite the White Emperor's attempts to stop her, Bai Yaoyao extracted water from West Lake to extinguish the Red Lotus Karmic Fire, causing Xu Xuan and Fa Hai, both injured, to emerge from the temple. Soon after, Zhan Huang also appeared, remarking on Xu Xuan and Bai Yaoyao as a "lovely couple" and marveling that his powerful Lotus Fire couldn't stop them. He then revealed to Xu Xuan that the Alkaid and Dubhe fates were both within Bai Yaoyao.
He stated that if these fates were not promptly extracted and returned to their proper places, the three realms would descend into chaos. He further explained that extracting the fates would cost Bai Yaoyao her life, while not doing so would lead to Fa Hai's demise. Thus, only one of them could survive, forcing Xu Xuan to make an impossible choice between his friend and his lover.
Zhan Huang then expressed his deep love for Bai Yaoyao, admitting that despite his power, he was nothing compared to Xu Xuan in her heart. The White Emperor, observing the tense situation, urged Xu Xuan not to fall for Zhan Huang's manipulation.
He advised Xu Xuan to bring Zhan Huang's spiritual marble and Bai Yaoyao, whose spiritual marble contained the fates, to the Celestial Emperor in the Empyrean Heaven, assuring him that the Celestial Emperor would know how to properly restore the fates. Zhan Huang, realizing his defeat, reflected on his life, his ambition to fight Heaven, and his thousands of years of planning that now crumbled. Despite being betrayed and hunted, he claimed no regrets.
He then turned to Bai Yaoyao, confessing his profound love and longing, stating he was willing to sacrifice everything, including giving her the fates, so she would become the Demon Emperor and never again be enslaved by anyone. He desperately asked if her heart had ever skipped a beat for him. Bai Yaoyao, however, affirmed that her heart had always belonged solely to Xu Xuan.
Zhan Huang, though heartbroken, declared that he had never been enslaved in life and would rather die than be imprisoned. He emphasized that there could only be one Demon Emperor in the three realms and that his death was necessary to save Bai Yaoyao from her own demise. With these final words, he destroyed his spiritual marble and vanished from the three realms.
Fa Hai, weakened but alive, told Xu Xuan that as a monk, his own life or death held no significance. Bai Yaoyao, however, was resolute in her decision to extract the Alkaid fate from her spiritual marble and return it to Fa Hai. Fa Hai, struggling, condemned her as a demon, lamenting that he hadn't killed her on Mount Kunlun a thousand years ago.
Despite his anger, he acknowledged that the Alkaid fate was now with her, which he deemed "good," and urged her to be careful. He reiterated that without the fate of Alkaid, he would die, but that too, for a Buddhist monk like him, was "good." The White Emperor informed Bai Yaoyao that while she had successfully extinguished the Lotus Fire, her actions had inadvertently broken the final water barrier, a protective array established by Zi Xuan a thousand years ago.
This breach caused the emergence of a water dragon and widespread flooding. The White Emperor then took Fa Hai to Mount Jiuxi for healing, while he and Bai Yaoyao headed to West Lake to confront the water dragon. Meanwhile, in Lin'an City, Xu Jiaorong was in agonizing labor. Her husband, Li Gongfu, rushed out to find a midwife but was met with the horrifying sight of the West Lake's waters surging into the city, causing widespread chaos and countless casualties.
Upon seeing the devastation, Xu Xuan resolved to kill the water dragon to quell the flood. Bai Yaoyao expressed concern that this action would offend the Dragon Tribe and nullify all of Xu Xuan's previous efforts to maintain peace with them. However, Xu Xuan declared that he no longer cared about the world or the Dragon Tribe, as long as Bai Yaoyao remained unharmed.
Xu Xuan confronted the water dragon, condemning it for its monstrous crime and disregard for human lives, vowing to slay it. The dragon, a powerful deity of the Dragon Tribe, proved overwhelming for Xu Xuan, rendering him helpless. Bai Yaoyao swiftly intervened, severing one of its claws. The enraged dragon then resurfaced, entangling both of them.
Utilizing the power of the Command of Nature, Bai Yaoyao joined forces with Xu Xuan to overpower the beast, and she ultimately killed it with the Tianji Sword. While recovering under the White Emperor's care, Fa Hai lamented his inability to personally kill the "filthy beast" due to his current state.
He acknowledged that Bai Yaoyao and Xu Xuan would likely defeat the water dragon but foresaw greater problems arising afterward, noting that Xu Xuan would struggle to explain his actions to the Dragon Tribe. Xiao Qing, present at Mount Jiuxi, countered by blaming Bai Yaoyao for taking the immense risk of extracting West Lake water, which caused the flood.
Fa Hai defended Bai Yaoyao, stating that she and Xiao Qing were merely worried and trying to save him and Xu Xuan. Xiao Qing then pleaded with the White Emperor to save Fa Hai. The White Emperor explained that the only way to save Fa Hai was to extract the Alkaid fate from Bai Yaoyao's spiritual marble, which would unfortunately result in Bai Yaoyao's death.
He further elaborated on Zhan Huang's cunning scheme, which forced Xu Xuan into this dire choice. He added that the Green Emperor was currently with the Heavenly Emperor to discuss potential solutions, though he disparagingly referred to both snake demons as "problematic." The aftermath of the flood left Lin'an City devastated, with countless people suffering and grieving. Amidst this, Xiao Hui urgently informed Xu Xuan that his sister, Xu Jiaorong, was enduring a difficult birth.
Bai Yaoyao, still recovering from her injuries, urged Xu Xuan to go to his sister while she and the other demons led the displaced residents to safety, hoping to atone for her role in the disaster. Xu Xuan, though concerned, asked Bai Yaoyao to seek help from the Hall of Apothecary for her own injuries and cautioned her against using her powers unnecessarily.
At the Hall of Apothecary, Qing Feng explained to Xu Xuan that Xu Jiaorong's condition had worsened significantly due to moving during labor, causing severe bleeding. Xu Xuan immediately treated his sister, managing to save her life, but tragically, her child was stillborn. Learning this, Xu Xuan and Bai Yaoyao were consumed by guilt, feeling they bore a heavy burden of sin.
Xu Xuan expressed a willingness to sacrifice everything to restore the lives of Lin'an City's people, but acknowledged that the damage was irreversible. The Heavenly Emperor, reflecting on his twin brother Zhan Huang, mused on the differing paths they were destined to walk. Despite Zhan Huang's numerous transgressions, the Heavenly Emperor admitted he never truly wished for his brother's death, always holding out hope for his repentance. Addressing his subordinate, he then decreed Bai Yaoyao's fate.
He stated that Bai Yaoyao, who had committed a grave error by saving Xu Xuan, was now bearing the Command of Nature and afflicted with demonic tendencies. If she failed to purge this demonic influence, she risked transforming completely and unleashing a devastating catastrophe upon the world. Should that day arrive, the Heavenly Emperor vowed to personally destroy her primordial spirit and imprison her in eternal darkness.
He then commanded Fairy Xiao Xiang to bring Bai Yaoyao to Mount Li to meet him. Tormented by her demonic affliction, Bai Yaoyao confided in Xu Xuan her decision to extract the Fate of Alkaid from her spiritual marble and return it to Fa Hai. She explained that if she died in the process, she would have no regrets, having at least saved Fa Hai.
If she survived, she intended to seal herself away in a dark place until her demonic nature completely vanished, believing this would atone for her past misdeeds. Xu Xuan, deeply distressed by her self-sacrificing plan, refused to let her die and vowed to find another way to save Fa Hai. However, Bai Yaoyao questioned whether Fa Hai could endure the wait, given his critical condition.
Before departing for Mount Li to meet the Heavenly Emperor, Bai Yaoyao expressed her profound concern for Xu Xuan and the suffering people of Lin'an City, feeling immense responsibility for the repeated disasters that had befallen them, especially given Lin'an City's past harassment by the demon tribe and now the flood caused by her actions. Her deepest desire was for Xu Xuan's safety and the happiness of the common folk.
Shortly after, the Dragon King arrived at West Lake, seeking retribution for the death of the Dragon God Black Flood Dragon. Only days before, he had promised Bai Yaoyao the unwavering support of the entire Dragon Tribe. Now, faced with the fact that Bai Yaoyao and Xu Xuan, who had shown great kindness to his kin in the past, were responsible for the Dragon God's demise, he found himself in a profound dilemma. To appease his wrath and the honor of the Dragon Tribe, Bai Yaoyao knelt before him, admitting her guilt and offering her own life as atonement.
