Xiao Qing and Qi Xiao found themselves in a heated disagreement. Qi Xiao led Xiao Qing to a mountain peak to show her a magnificent glazed tree, inviting her to count its glistening beads. As the beads swayed in the wind, emitting a crisp, tinkling sound, Xiao Qing was captivated by the beautiful scene. However, Qi Xiao then revealed the harsh truth: each bead on the tree was refined from a demon core, representing a demon he had slain.
He declared that demons were responsible for the death of his master and the massacre of countless lives at Mount Jin Temple, making the hatred between him and demons irreconcilable. He emphatically stated that he could never love a snake demon. He further claimed that while Xu Xuan might not care that Bai Yao Yao was a demon, he would care that Xiao Qing was one, and the hatred between humans and demons could never be erased.
With these words, Qi Xiao retreated to Mount Jin Temple and locked himself inside, refusing to emerge, despite Xiao Qing's desperate cries outside. Meanwhile, Leng Ning was in the outskirts, cruelly torturing minor demons and absorbing their cultivation. Tao Tie arrived and snatched an inner core from one of the demons. The two had been collaborating to steal numerous demon inner cores. Leng Ning, unsatisfied with their haul, expressed a desire to find more minor demons for her practice.
Tao Tie warned her that Xu Xuan and Bai Yao Yao were at the edge of the forest and advised caution to avoid falling into their hands. Xiao Qing, recalling a story from a book that suggested fulfilling a promise meant "clearing ties," was afraid that Qi Xiao was trying to sever their connection. She was unwavering in her desire not to clear their accounts, even if Qi Xiao was a demon catcher destined for the Empyrean Heaven.
She wanted to be entangled with him for every lifetime, wishing to accompany him just as Bai Yao Yao accompanied Xu Xuan. Inside the temple, Qi Xiao recited Buddhist scriptures in an attempt to calm his heart. Xiao Qing confronted him, questioning why he wouldn't admit his feelings for her, as it was obvious he cared. She insisted that she was still in his heart and demanded he acknowledge it, but he vehemently denied it.
She was heartbroken, asking if he would kill her if they met as adversaries, to which he coldly responded, "Yes." Xiao Qing reminded him of his past protection and promises, but he remained unmoved, calling her a "lowly snake demon" and asking why she persisted in clinging to him. She continued to shout outside the temple, distraught and feeling sullen, wondering why he refused to answer her. Xu Xuan found Qi Xiao attempting to meditate, observing his restless mind.
He gently probed, questioning why Qi Xiao had deliberately driven Xiao Qing away, expressing confusion as this was unlike the resolute Ling Chu he once knew. Qi Xiao claimed that his life's mission was to catch demons and that his encounter with Xiao Qing was "the funniest dream ever." Xu Xuan asked why he had given her a hairpin if he had no feelings for her, urging him not to ignore the problem.
With Leng Ning's disappearance, the Apothecary House was left without a master. Senior Song and Qing Feng patiently waited outside Xu Xuan's mansion daily, hoping to persuade him to return as Lord. Xiao Qing, observing their persistence, angrily called them foolish, explaining that Xu Xuan was very devoted to Bai Yao Yao, and seeking her help would be far more effective than trying to sway him directly.
Initially, Senior Song and Qing Feng mistakenly believed Xiao Qing's anger stemmed from jealousy over Xu Xuan, but after speaking with Xu Xuan and Bai Yao Yao, they realized her frustration was directed at Qi Xiao. Xu Xuan also informed them that his recent absence was due to gathering scarce medicinal herbs, as he had found the Apothecary House's stock insufficient during his last visit.
He reiterated his refusal to reclaim the title of Lord of the Apothecary House, but offered to return and practice medicine as Physician Xu. The Kunlun Master visited Qi Xiao on Mount Kunlun, reminding him of his duty to subdue demons, a penance for his past actions where he secretly stole and used the Soul Collecting Light, causing demon aura to gather and leading to the birth of the Demon Emperor.
Qi Xiao, however, admitted he no longer wished to subdue demons. The Master revealed Qi Xiao's true destiny: born with the "Fate of Seven Prowesses," he was fated to bring harm to those close to him. Furthermore, possessing the "Fate of Alkaid," if he were to fall in love, he would ultimately die by the hands of his beloved. This meant Xiao Qing was his destined calamity, and the only way to break this fate was to kill her.
This was the true reason behind Qi Xiao's determined rejection of Xiao Qing. Meanwhile, in the Celestial Realm, the Heavenly Emperor had dispatched the Green and White Emperors to locate the Demon Emperor, but they returned without any trace from the Three Realms. The Heavenly Emperor suspected the Demon Emperor's magical prowess had grown significantly, making him undetectable.
He also found it unusual that Fairy Xiao Xiang remained unconscious after having her heart blood taken, despite Xu Xuan's message linking the incident to Tao Tie. The Heavenly Emperor believed that based on Tao Tie's ability, the matter was not so simple, suspecting Demon Emperor's involvement given their past entanglement. The Demon Emperor, having concealed his aura, was relaxing in a Lin'an City teahouse, aware of the Celestial hunt.
He revealed his plan to his subordinate: rather than simply capturing Xiao Qing, he intended to wait until her heart was completely shattered by Qi Xiao, at which point he would intervene to win her over and reclaim the "Greedy Wolf Grid." He also warned his followers to be wary, as Tao Tie had become aware of his plans and was searching for him.
Xu Jiaorong approached Xiao Qing, urging her not to fixate on one man and suggesting a blind date. Bai Yao Yao and Xu Xuan agreed, viewing it as a test of Qi Xiao's true feelings: if he cared, he would surely intervene; if not, Xiao Qing could move on. Xu Xuan then informed Qi Xiao about Xiao Qing's impending blind date at the teahouse that evening, deliberately provoking him.
Despite his agitation and a strong urge to stop it, Qi Xiao remembered his fated calamity. He calmed himself through meditation, declaring that he would not prevent Xiao Qing from attending. That evening, at the teahouse, Zhan Huang awaited Xiao Qing. Bai Yao Yao accompanied Xiao Qing to the meeting. Zhan Huang, upon seeing Bai Yao Yao, was visibly stunned.
He introduced himself, and Bai Yao Yao, realizing he was the same person who had saved her in the peach blossom grove, was surprised by the revelation. Simultaneously, at Mount Jin Temple, Qi Xiao, having made his decision to sever all karmic ties with Xiao Qing and escape worldly realities, requested Master Yong An to perform his tonsure that very night, committing himself fully to Buddhism and abandoning all worldly affairs.
