Bai Yao Yao stood in the peach forest, seeing fleeting illusions of Xu Xuan planting peach trees for her. Xiao Qing, observing Bai Yao Yao's profound sorrow, initially believed Xu Xuan to be heartless for separating from her, especially after Bai Yao Yao had sacrificed so much for him.
However, Xiao Qing soon realized that Xu Xuan's love for Bai Yao Yao was so deep that he chose to be cruel, understanding that true love sometimes meant enduring personal suffering for the well-being of the beloved, a truth more challenging than simply staying together. Meanwhile, Qing Feng and Brother Song, two disciples from the Apothecary House, were out collecting herbs when they fell victim to a mysterious pollen poison.
A Butterfly Demon named Die Man appeared, seemingly rescuing Qing Feng from myocardial injuries and breathing difficulties with her unique medicine. This act of kindness earned her the trust of the Apothecary House, allowing her and her "brother" (a Vine Demon, who was actually Tao Tie in disguise) to assist Leng Ning with the ongoing free medical clinic. While publicly appearing benevolent, their true intentions were sinister.
Xiao Qing, suspicious of Die Man's presence at the Apothecary House, rushed to inform Qi Xiao. To her surprise, Xu Xuan and Qi Xiao were already well aware of Die Man's identity as a Butterfly Demon and that her "brother" was none other than Tao Tie, disguised as a Vine Demon. They recognized this as an opportunity to finally end their thousand-year-long resentment with Tao Tie.
Xu Xuan, preparing for a confrontation with Tao Tie the following day, instructed Xiao Qing to send Bai Yao Yao back to Mount Li, insisting she use any means necessary, including trickery or kidnapping. When Xiao Qing refused to force Bai Yao Yao, Xu Xuan used the Crown Tightening Spell on her, threatening to inflict its pain if she failed to comply, despite Xiao Qing's protests about being bullied.
Xiao Qing initially reported to Xu Xuan and Qi Xiao about Die Man's method of using butterflies to transfer patients' illnesses into surrounding plants, causing many of them to wilt. Later, Xiao Hui, one of Xiao Qing's subordinates, reported that many of these healed patients, often entire families, were mysteriously leaving town with various strange excuses and never returning. Qi Xiao deduced that Die Man was casting spells on selected patients during treatment, controlling their minds and making them leave.
These missing individuals, he concluded, were likely being killed by Tao Tie to refine a new physical body for himself, as Tao Tie had only one physical soul fragment left after his deity seed was destroyed a thousand years ago. Tao Tie's reckless actions suggested he intended to succeed before his scheme was fully exposed, risking widespread chaos if he regained a complete body.
Leng Ning, witnessing an old man and his sick granddaughter waiting for treatment, was reminded of her own childhood, when her father, Leng Hui Chun, would offer her sweets to cheer her up and inspire her to become a great physician like him. This memory stirred her conscience, and she personally treated the pair, ensuring their safe departure.
Overwhelmed with guilt for allowing Tao Tie and Die Man to commit atrocities under the guise of the Apothecary House's good name, Leng Ning confessed her shame before her father's memorial tablet, vowing to protect his reputation, even if it meant her death. She confronted Tao Tie and Die Man, but Tao Tie, reminding her of the "seed" he had planted in her heart, easily subdued her, inflicting immense pain.
Just as Leng Ning faced her demise, the Hundred Herb Immortal and White Emperor arrived, having sensed a calamity and deity aura. Tao Tie, recognizing the White Emperor, swiftly fled, as did the Vine Demon. The Hundred Herb Immortal saved Leng Ning. Xu Xuan and Qi Xiao also arrived, drawn by the immortal aura.
It was then revealed that the Hundred Herb Immortal was indeed Leng Hui Chun, Leng Ning's father, who had descended to the mortal realm for a trial. During this trial, he had also become Xu Xuan's master, fulfilling the "cause and effect" that a crane had previously mentioned. He explained that while his true form could be revealed to Xu Xuan, a deity, it was forbidden for Leng Ning, a mortal.
Xu Xuan expressed regret for Leng Ning's predicament, but the Hundred Herb Immortal acknowledged that her own ill intentions had allowed her to be trapped. However, he also noted that her willingness to sacrifice herself indicated remaining kindness. Meanwhile, Bai Yao Yao, understanding Xu Xuan's true intentions to protect her from suffering, voluntarily returned to Mount Li, explaining to Xiao Qing that Xu Xuan had not truly cast a spell on her.
She recalled how Xu Xuan had broken the Heart Mirror he gave her, aiming to sever all her attachments to him. Despite its shattered state, Bai Yao Yao used her magic to repair the mirror enough to occasionally glimpse Xu Xuan through it.
Recognizing that her identity as a demon remained the greatest barrier between them, Bai Yao Yao resolved to cultivate diligently and become a deity, believing that once she achieved immortality, Xu Xuan would have no further reason to reject her. Xu Xuan, concerned that Leng Ning, as a mortal, might suffer ill consequences from remembering the Hundred Herb Immortal's true form, wished to erase her memories.
However, the Hundred Herb Immortal explained that due to Leng Ning's partial demonic nature, a simple spell would be insufficient. He revealed that in twelve days, the Blood Moon would appear, and its potent aura could either cleanse Leng Ning of her demonic qualities, provided she maintained a pure heart, or complete her transformation into a full demon if her intentions remained impure.
Fearing that Tao Tie might also learn of the Blood Moon's significance, the Hundred Herb Immortal left a magical flower at the Apothecary House to alert Xu Xuan to any further activities by Tao Tie. Xiao Qing later informed Bai Yao Yao that the Queen Mother planned to personally remove Xu Xuan's "love root" in a month, allowing him to reclaim his position as a deity.
Bai Yao Yao understood this meant a final, irrevocable separation, strengthening her resolve to cultivate to immortality, not just to be with him, but so that Xu Xuan would never truly forget her.
