Ling Chu, now identifying as Qi Xiao, confronted Zi Xuan, having set up the 8 formations and calamities as a continuation of their thousand-year-old rivalry. He informed Zi Xuan that if the formation were broken, Ling Chu would be severely injured, or even die, declaring it his only means to stop Zi Xuan.

Zi Xuan, already weakened from a recent battle with the Green Emperor and thus no match for Ling Chu, accepted the challenge, his heart deeply concerned for Yaoyao. He resolved to fight to the death, knowing he had to break the formation that day, even if reluctant. Ling Chu then thanked Zi Xuan for taking two thunder shots for Bai Yaoyao in the past, declaring their debts settled.

However, Zi Xuan believed he still owed Ling Chu greatly for past favors, acknowledging their fated battle was unavoidable. Yaoyao, imprisoned in the Deity Realm, lamented her dire state, her magical prowess gone and spiritual marble unstable, leaving her capable of enduring only one more thunder shot before death. Meanwhile, Xiao Qing sought the Demon Emperor's aid to rescue Yaoyao.

The Demon Emperor initially refused, stating he had no ties to Bai Yaoyao and had already taken a thunder shot for her. Undeterred, Xiao Qing insisted on going to the Nine Heavens, even if it meant being captured by heavenly soldiers. Witnessing her stubborn resolve, the Demon Emperor, unable to dissuade her, eventually told her the path. Zi Xuan, after much effort, identified the life gate within Ling Chu's 64-gate formation.

Realizing that a complete break would lead to Ling Chu's demise, Zi Xuan deliberately left one formation eye, choosing to endure the severe backlash himself to save Ling Chu. Ling Chu recognized Zi Xuan's sacrifice, recalling Zi Xuan's self-sacrifice a thousand years prior to protect him and Bai Yaoyao.

He felt he owed Zi Xuan too much, even willing to die if it would lead to Zi Xuan's enlightenment and successful passage through his tribulation, having also sacrificed much for Zi Xuan over the past millennium. The entanglements and grudges among Zi Xuan, Ling Chu, and Bai Yaoyao had become too complex to determine who owed whom.

Ling Chu admitted defeat and directed Zi Xuan to the Snow Mountain peak where Bai Yaoyao was held, knowing Zi Xuan intended to take her remaining thunder shots. Ling Chu reflected on the hard path ahead for Zi Xuan, warning of the heart-piercing pain of the thunder shots. Yet, Zi Xuan declared his willingness to bear any hardship for Bai Yaoyao, never regretting their bond. Xiao Qing found Qi Xiao, injured and unconscious.

Seeing Xu Xuan heading towards Yaoyao, she decided to stay with Qi Xiao. When Qi Xiao awoke, he playfully teased Xiao Qing about her plumpness and suggested making her into snake soup. Xiao Qing retorted, questioning his newfound appetite for meat despite being a monk at Mount Jin Temple, leading to their usual bickering. Zi Xuan used the Tianji Sword to open Yaoyao's prison cell.

Yaoyao was bewildered and worried to see him, having believed he would have forgotten her and be living a peaceful, ordinary life in the mortal world, which was what she had suffered to ensure. Zi Xuan gently chided her innocence, stating he could never forget her.

He then confessed his profound love, explaining that as Xu Xuan, he could openly declare his feelings, but as Zi Xuan, he could only bury them deep within, which had caused her a thousand years of lonely searching. Yaoyao, overjoyed at his return, embraced him and pleaded with him never to leave her alone again, and to always find her first and fall in love with her first in any future life. Zi Xuan promised her his unwavering devotion.

Despite Yaoyao having already endured half of her 49 thunder shots, Zi Xuan used a seal to push her out of the cell and took her place to face the remaining strikes. Yaoyao, trapped by the seal, screamed in agony, begging him to come out, knowing his mortal body could not withstand the heavenly lightning. She feared losing him again and not knowing how to find him a second time.

Zi Xuan, telling her he had always been waiting for her, urged her to live well. After Zi Xuan endured two thunder shots and collapsed, the Green Emperor intervened just as the third strike was about to fall. He dissipated the lightning and broke Zi Xuan's seal, urging Zi Xuan and Yaoyao to flee quickly. For this act of defiance against heavenly law, Green Emperor was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment in the Weakling Water.

Meanwhile, Qi Xiao, now a mortal, visited White Emperor at Mount Kunlun to bid farewell and inform him of his decision to continue cultivating in the mortal realm, having realized through his experiences that not all demons are inherently evil. He asked White Emperor to intercede for Xu Xuan, Bai Yaoyao, and Green Emperor, drawing a parallel between Green Emperor's protection of his disciple and White Emperor's own care for him.

White Emperor, having sensed Xiao Qing's presence despite Qi Xiao's attempts to hide her, rebuked Qi Xiao for bringing a demon (the green snake) to Mount Kunlun and warned him against repeating Zi Xuan's mistakes. Fearing White Emperor would punish Qi Xiao, Xiao Qing emerged and showered White Emperor with elaborate praises, contrasting his kindness and compassion with Green Emperor's perceived arrogance. Flattered, White Emperor, without thinking, agreed to speak on behalf of Bai Yaoyao.

Realizing his verbal misstep too late, he found himself bound by his word as one of the Five Emperors. True to his word, White Emperor petitioned the Heavenly Emperor, which led to the pardon of Green Emperor, Zi Xuan, and Yaoyao. Zi Xuan brought the severely injured Yaoyao to Mount Jiuxi, kneeling before Green Emperor to apologize for his involvement in the Green Emperor's punishment and to request that Yaoyao be allowed to recuperate there. Green Emperor, despite his initial reluctance to keep a demon on Mount Jiuxi, ultimately agreed, moved by his deep affection for his disciple and unwilling to see him suffer further.
