Determined to save Xu Xuan, Bai Yaoyao bravely ventured into Penglai Heavenly Mountain to retrieve the magical herb. She declared that she would not give up until she succeeded, even if it meant her death. Upon finding the herb, it sprang away and transformed into ordinary weeds, and Bai Yaoyao suddenly found herself trapped in an illusion, realizing it was a test.
Meanwhile, in the Xu Mansion, an unconscious Xu Xuan muttered in his sleep about Bai Yaoyao being in danger. He desperately called out to Ling Chu, imploring him to save Bai Yaoyao from an illusion. Hearing the name "Ling Chu" caused Qi Xiao a sudden, sharp pain in his head. Just then, a messenger crane arrived, confirming Bai Yaoyao’s peril.
Qi Xiao, now convinced, instructed Xiao Qing to stay and care for Xu Xuan while he rushed to Penglai Mountain to rescue Bai Yaoyao. Xiao Qing, despite wanting to follow, remained to look after Xu Xuan. At the Apothecary House, Leng Ning had fallen unconscious, her body suffering from the backlash of venom.
Qing Feng went to Xu Mansion to seek Physician Xu’s help, only to encounter a hurried Qi Xiao, who informed him that Xu Xuan was gravely ill and in a coma, and a barrier prevented ordinary people from entering the mansion. Leng Ning soon awoke and dismissed her condition as a common cold, but after hearing Qing Feng’s report about Xu Xuan, she released her spiders to infiltrate Xu Mansion and gather information.
She believed that Xu Xuan had seen Bai Yaoyao’s true snake demon form and was bitten by her, which made Leng Ning happy, thinking Xu Xuan would finally resent Bai Yaoyao. She vowed that Bai Yaoyao would never have Xu Xuan. Trapped within the illusion, Bai Yaoyao found herself in Mount Jiuxi’s alchemy room, where she witnessed the Black Dragon sealed within the Demon Prison, just as it was a thousand years ago.
She tried in vain to prevent its escape. The scene then shifted to the battle with the Black Dragon at West Lake, and Bai Yaoyao believed she finally had a chance to alter the past, intending to sacrifice herself to the Demon Prison in Zi Xuan's stead. Qi Xiao entered the illusion, trying to rouse her from this delusion.
An illusionary Zi Xuan appeared, cruelly blaming Bai Yaoyao for his past misfortunes, claiming that if not for her, he would have ascended to immortality a thousand years ago. This illusionary Zi Xuan accused her of selfishness and causing his sacrifice. Overwhelmed by guilt, Bai Yaoyao believed these harsh words from the illusionary Zi Xuan were true, reflecting her own inner demons and regret for having caused Zi Xuan’s suffering. She closed her eyes, ready to accept her fate.
Qi Xiao, recognizing the illusion for what it was—a manifestation of Bai Yaoyao's inner demons—destroyed the false Zi Xuan with a sword and then pierced Bai Yaoyao. The sharp pain brought Bai Yaoyao back to reality. She confessed that this inner demon had tormented her for a thousand years, fueled by her sorrow, guilt, and weakness, and she could never be free until Zi Xuan was saved.
Bai Yaoyao realized the magical herb was in Forgotten Moon Lake and hastened there. Deer Fairy and Crane Immortal were already in pursuit. Knowing that he was destined to become Ling Chu in the future, Bai Yaoyao wished to protect Qi Xiao from further entanglement with heavenly immortals and cautioned him not to engage in direct conflict with them. She could not fully explain the past karma, but she urged him to trust her.
Back at Xu Mansion, Xu Xuan’s body emanated an intensifying cold, making the entire house feel like winter. Xiao Qing worried that Xu Xuan would freeze to death before Bai Yaoyao returned and ordered the minor demons to gather braziers to warm the room. Elsewhere, Tao Tie wanted to seize the opportunity to kill Xu Xuan, but the Demon Emperor intervened, stating his intention to save Xu Xuan.
He explained that the five barriers protecting Xu Xuan were created by Zi Xuan sacrificing his primordial spirit, and if Xu Xuan died, the remaining barriers would be impossible to break. Tao Tie, suspicious, questioned the Demon Emperor's motives, who then explained that saving Xu Xuan was crucial for his ultimate plan to release the Black Water Dragon and reclaim the guardian of the Dragon Tribe. In his dream, Xu Xuan found himself in a desolate, icy landscape.
There, he encountered Zi Xuan, who held the Soul Collecting Light and revealed their intrinsic connection, saying, "We're the same person. You are me. I am you." This revelation caused Xu Xuan immense pain. Observing the flickering Soul Collecting Light, Xiao Qing feared for Xu Xuan’s life, knowing that if the flame went out, he would surely die.
She and the other demons tried to stabilize it with their magic, but the light began to emit a death aura, overwhelming them. Recognizing her limited power, Xiao Qing decided to seek help from the powerful Black Mountain Old Demon, despite their long-standing animosity.
Meanwhile, an unnamed deity confronted the Green Emperor, who admitted he had given Qi Xiao the Soul Collecting Light to save Xu Xuan’s life, not expecting Zi Xuan's spiritual consciousness within it to be so potent that it could communicate with Xu Xuan. Fearing that Xu Xuan might recall his past, which would lead to further complications, the Green Emperor declared his intention to retrieve and shatter the Soul Collecting Light to completely seal Zi Xuan’s primordial spirit.
At Forgotten Moon Lake, Bai Yaoyao located the magical herb, but discovered the lake was filled with Demon Dissolving Water, which could instantly disintegrate her spirit if she touched it. Crane Immortal and Deer Fairy arrived, confronting Bai Yaoyao and Qi Xiao. Qi Xiao bravely intercepted them, fighting off the immortals and injuring Deer Fairy. Bai Yaoyao swiftly retrieved the herb.
She then urged Qi Xiao to take the magical herb and leave immediately, insisting she would stay to handle the aftermath. When Qi Xiao hesitated, she threatened to jump into the lethal lake, saying she would rather die than burden him. Crane Immortal, secretly assisting Bai Yaoyao, feigned an injury caused by Qi Xiao, allowing him to escape with the herb.
Xiao Qing, having arrived at Stone Hill, was met by the Black Mountain Old Demon, who, despite knowing how to stabilize the Soul Collecting Light, refused to help her and instead moved to devour her as revenge for their past conflict. Xiao Qing, weakened from excessive use of her inner fire, was nearly killed. The Demon Emperor appeared, saving Xiao Qing and dismissing the Black Mountain Old Demon as insignificant. The Demon Emperor then pledged to help Xiao Qing.
Zi Xuan, in Xu Xuan's dream, held the Soul Collecting Light and urged Xu Xuan to remember Bai Yaoyao and the little white snake. He warned Xu Xuan that someone would eventually try to break the light, and to extinguish its flame beforehand to recover everything he had lost. The Demon Emperor then taught Xiao Qing a spell to stabilize the Soul Collecting Light. Despite her suspicions about his sudden help, Xiao Qing, fearing for Xu Xuan’s life, rushed back to the mansion to apply the new spell.
