Ximen and Xiaogeng stood together on the rooftop of a high-rise building. Xiaogeng confessed that she had always liked him, a fact Ximen admitted he already knew, finding her easy to read. However, he found her own feelings harder to decipher. Xiaogeng observed that since their reunion, all their conversations revolved around the past, implying that they had missed their chance and that nothing truly waits forever; words disappear, and people change.
Ximen then expressed his regret, apologizing that he had missed his chance. He confessed that his past self had liked her deeply, and that the current her was more important than anything to him. Xiaogeng reciprocated, admitting she too had liked the "old him" intensely. Her intuition told her that they no longer liked each other in the present, thus accepting their definitive separation. Meanwhile, a tired Xiaoyou finished her singing performance at 8 AM.
She received a call from Xiaogeng, asking her to come to the rooftop. Perplexed, as she expected Xiaogeng to be with Ximen, Xiaoyou nevertheless agreed to go alone despite Shancai and Daoming Si offering a ride. Upon arrival, Xiaoyou found only Ximen on the rooftop. She noticed that the signboard on the opposite building that was once there was gone and asked about Xiaogeng's whereabouts.
Ximen solemnly informed her that Xiaogeng had left, and their relationship had ended, just like the missing signboard symbolizing a past that has vanished. Ximen then opened up to Xiaoyou, admitting that his past self was not brave and often avoided facing the people he liked, wondering if such a person deserved affection. Xiaoyou, however, passionately declared that she loved the current Ximen, flaws and all, just as she accepted her own imperfections.
She embraced him, unwilling to let him slip away, and they shared a profound kiss. Later, back at the tea ceremony club, Ximen gave Xiaoyou a gift from Xiaogeng: a self-made doll resembling Ximen, along with a letter. In the letter, Xiaogeng thanked Xiaoyou for bringing her closer to Ximen again, which helped her understand her true desires. Xiaogeng wrote that the doll was originally made for Ximen out of longing, but now it rightfully belonged to Xiaoyou.
Xiaoyou, reflecting on the gift and letter, felt it embodied a broad-minded perspective on life where one cherishes encounters but also accepts when things are missed. Elsewhere, Daoming Si and Dong Shancai were having wontons.
Despite an earlier playful argument where Daoming Si teased Shancai about Ximen causing them exhaustion from comforting Xiaoyou, Daoming Si suddenly proposed to Shancai in front of the entire restaurant, declaring his desire to share three meals a day with her for the rest of their lives.
A flustered Shancai didn't outright refuse, so Daoming Si stood up and announced to all the customers that Dong Shancai had agreed to marry him, asking them to bear witness and offering to treat everyone to their meal. Back home, Shancai was still buzzing with excitement, pinching herself to confirm the proposal wasn't a dream. Soon after, 520 roses arrived, sent by Daoming Si to symbolize his feelings. Shancai, ever curious, counted them but repeatedly found only 519.
Just as she called Daoming Si to playfully complain, he appeared at her door, holding the final, 520th rose. Shancai then shared her happy news with Xiaoyou, who was overjoyed and envious. Xiaoyou, in turn, revealed that she and Ximen had formally started dating after her rooftop visit. Shancai was surprised but immensely happy for her friend, noting Xiaoyou's radiant smile and her new Tencent Social QQ Space avatar, which she had changed that very day.
Meanwhile, at school, Shancai heard a beautiful violin melody and followed it to find Huaze Lei playing. He explained that he was going abroad soon and wanted to play one last time in the music classroom, a place filled with his memories. Noticing Shancai's slight hesitation about marrying Daoming Si, he asked if she was still worried. Shancai admitted to her fears of future obstacles, given their tumultuous past.
Huaze Lei, however, reassured her, stating that they had overcome every challenge together, and nothing could defeat them now. A few days later, Daoming Si and Shancai traveled to the fishing village to seek her parents' blessing for their marriage. Daoming Si presented them with a "plant doctor Dendrobium orchid spirit" as a gift. Shancai's mother, however, strongly opposed the hasty marriage.
While she acknowledged Daoming Si's polite and well-educated character and his kindness to Shancai, her main concern was how Shancai would manage her relationship with Daoming Feng if they married without Daoming Feng's explicit approval. Shancai admitted that they were trying to avoid confronting Daoming Feng. Realizing the validity of Shancai's mother's concern, Daoming Si immediately decided to video call his mother, Daoming Feng, who was abroad.
He declared his intention to marry Shancai and sought her consent, with both sets of parents present virtually. Daoming Feng, though reluctant, stated that a Daoming family marriage required careful planning. Daoming Si firmly reiterated his unwavering resolve to marry Shancai soon, having no other woman in his heart. Seeing his determination, Daoming Feng softened her stance, instructing him to discuss wedding arrangements upon his return.
Everyone present interpreted this as her tacit agreement, much to Daoming Si and Shancai's elation. Shancai’s parents expressed relief and planned to return to Shanghai to await Daoming Feng's official proposal. While staying in the fishing village, Daoming Si enthusiastically helped out at the Dong family's "Dong's Squid King" stall, donning an apron, much to Shancai's amusement. He addressed Shancai's mother as "Mom," which deeply touched her.
That night, due to limited accommodation, Daoming Si shared a room with Shancai's father. Shancai's father, initially concerned about Daoming Si's background and his daughter's welfare, offered extensive advice, cautioning him against gambling or being swayed by other women. Daoming Si patiently listened, assuring him that he would not be interested in other women and praising Shancai's strong personality, worldview, and values, which he attributed to her parents' excellent upbringing. He solemnly promised not to let Shancai down, ultimately earning her father's trust and relief.
