Jingjing and Yu Tu rode back in the driver’s car. Yu Tu was deep in thought, while Jingjing was checking trending topics online. When she saw they were trending together, she quickly asked Ling Jie to suppress the news—she didn’t want Yu Tu to receive too much attention. After that was settled, she brought up how Yu Tu revealed his profession on stage. Yu Tu admitted he planned to return to the research institute and would start work again tomorrow.

So, he probably could never give Jingjing her “Pentakill” birthday gift. Jingjing was quite disappointed, not just because of the gift but because of Yu Tu’s distant attitude. Yu Tu asked to stop the car midway—he would take the subway home since he had work tomorrow. Jingjing was saddened but still agreed. Watching Yu Tu walk away, Jingjing feared this might be their last goodbye.

She made up her mind to speak her heart and ran after him, mustering the courage to ask if he was willing to be with her. Seeing her hopeful smile, Yu Tu swallowed his pain and rejected her. Jingjing belonged to a dazzling world, while he belonged to another—two people destined to never be together. She had been rejected in high school and now again upon reunion. Heartbroken, Jingjing turned and left, breaking down in tears on the road.

Back home, Yu Tu returned alone. Di Liang happened to be playing games and already knew Yu Tu had played in the match with Jingjing. He even recognized her voice. He wanted to press for answers, but seeing how exhausted Yu Tu looked, he held back his curiosity. The next day, Yu Tu returned to work at the institute. Professor Zhang was pleased to see him and apologized for what he’d said at the restaurant.

He asked if Yu Tu had decided to stay. Yu Tu nodded, and Professor Zhang told him to work hard. In his free time, he brought up Jingjing, saying she was a great girl and worth considering. But Yu Tu said he wasn’t worthy of her. Professor Zhang got angry, saying aerospace was the most romantic profession.

If it was about money, even with a million-dollar salary, Yu Tu might not earn as much as Jingjing—but that didn’t mean he didn’t deserve her. Back at work, Yu Tu devoted himself wholeheartedly. His dedication was recognized by everyone. In the middle of monotonous experiments, he repeatedly conducted trials. During a break, he watched Jingjing’s birthday interview and remembered his promise—he had wanted to give her a “Pentakill” as a gift, but he had broken that promise.

Seeing how Shen Jing suffered from Guan Zai’s long absences, Yu Tu didn’t want Jingjing to go through the same. He couldn’t give her companionship or material stability. How could someone like him be worthy of someone as radiant as Jingjing?
