On Mingxintai, Qi Xiao, still in his mortal body, found nothing out of the ordinary. The Green Emperor took Xu Xuan to Mount Jiuxi, but not before Xu Xuan had instructed Xiao Qing on how to activate Mingxintai. Xiao Qing then helped Qi Xiao activate the platform.
When Xiao Qing questioned why Qi Xiao was still there instead of guarding the Soul Collecting Light, Qi Xiao explained that the Green Emperor had taken it, sparing his life because of his deep emotions for Bai Yaoyao, and then pursued Xu Xuan. Though Xu Xuan was a mere mortal, he had regained his memories, encompassing not only recent events but also his past life in the Deity Realm from thousands of years ago.
After hearing this, Xiao Qing grew anxious about Xu Xuan's whereabouts, remembering a fairy's words that only Xu Xuan could save Miss Bai. Qi Xiao assured her that Xu Xuan had given instructions, and as he spoke, the lake began to react, revealing a reflection of Bai Yaoyao suffering in a celestial prison. The White Crane, having pleaded with the Herb Deity, was allowed to visit Bai Yaoyao in her cell.
The prison, constructed of ten-thousand-year Mysterious Ice, inflicted piercing cold and agonizing pain, making any touch feel like a thousand arrows. The Crane wondered how Bai Yaoyao endured such torment. Bai Yaoyao, however, found joy in knowing Xu Xuan was alive, stating that even if he had forgotten her, her heart was filled only with happiness and no sorrow. She confided in the Crane her longing to know how Xu Xuan was doing, despite believing he had forgotten her.
The Crane, knowing Xu Xuan had regained his memories and returned to Mount Jiuxi with the Green Emperor without once mentioning Bai Yaoyao, found it difficult to speak the truth. She could only tell Bai Yaoyao that Xu Xuan was fine, having forgotten their past, and was living as usual, so she had no need to worry. Bai Yaoyao reiterated that his survival was enough for her.
At Mount Jiuxi, the Green Emperor confronted Zi Xuan, preventing him from taking the Tianji Sword. Zi Xuan pleaded with his master to grant his wish, but the Green Emperor refused to let him make further mistakes. Zi Xuan, now fully embodying his deity persona with regained memories, was resolute, declaring he would go even without the Tianji Sword.
The Green Emperor revealed that the sword was sealed beneath his feet, secured by Zi Xuan's own Golden Body Barrier from a thousand years prior, and questioned if Zi Xuan intended to fight him. A thousand-year flashback showed Zi Xuan, the night before his battle with the Water Dragon, with his primordial spirit damaged. The Green Emperor had specifically obtained spirit water from the Empyrean Heaven to aid his recovery.
However, Zi Xuan, anticipating a potential calamity that might leave Bai Yaoyao without protection, had subtly tricked her into drinking the spirit water instead. He cherished Bai Yaoyao more than himself then, just as he did now. The Green Emperor berated Zi Xuan for his actions, lamenting that despite his careful plans to help Zi Xuan overcome his calamities, Zi Xuan continually put Bai Yaoyao before everything else.
Zi Xuan maintained that his fate was his own, and he did not regret his choices. Hearing the thunderous strikes of Bai Yaoyao's ongoing tribulation, Zi Xuan's heart ached. He proclaimed that he had missed Bai Yaoyao for a thousand years and was willing to abandon the path of the Lord Deity for her. He affirmed that unless his soul was scattered, he would not abandon Bai Yaoyao, and he must retrieve the Tianji Sword.
He explained that Bai Yaoyao was his wife and his most beloved, and he could not idly watch her suffer. Since Bai Yaoyao stole the Deity Herb to save his life, he reasoned that the thunder shot punishment should be borne by him. The Green Emperor continued to obstruct Zi Xuan, emphasizing that taking the Tianji Sword, a key part of the Golden Body Barrier Zi Xuan himself set, would leave only one barrier remaining to contain the Water Dragon.
He reminded Zi Xuan of his mortal body and the heavy responsibility of the Fate of Seven Prowesses he carried for the three realms' peace. Zi Xuan acknowledged this, stating that he knew it upon his reincarnation and that both Bai Yaoyao and the three realms needed protection. Even if it meant scattering his spirit once more, he would not let the last barrier break, but he must save Bai Yaoyao.
The Green Emperor, realizing he could not dissuade Zi Xuan, wounded him in a fight. Zi Xuan then spit out his heart blood, activating the seal of the Tianji Sword. The Green Emperor, resigned to fate, watched as Zi Xuan took the sword, acknowledging that no one could stop him now, but warning him of the dire consequences of breaking the barrier. Zi Xuan, unwavering, declared he had no regrets.
Back at Mingxinhu, Xiao Qing, seeing Bai Yaoyao's suffering, attempted to jump into the lake to block the thunder for her. Qi Xiao stopped her, explaining that the lake was merely a reflection of the Empyrean Heaven and entering it was like passing through a barrier. The Mingxintai stone then vibrated intensely, and the next thunder strike fell upon Qi Xiao. Xiao Qing, surprised to see him severely injured despite her dry clothes, questioned what had happened.
Qi Xiao explained that the Lake of True Self was formed from the Kunlun Mirror's spirit aura and acted as a barrier to the Empyrean Heaven. He deduced that the inscription on the stone transferred the thunder's power to another person. Xiao Qing then realized that Xu Xuan, knowing this secret, had deliberately used Qi Xiao to take the thunder for Bai Yaoyao.
Infuriated by Xu Xuan's manipulation, Qi Xiao declared he would continue to bear the thunder, despite Xiao Qing's pleas for him to stop and her offer to take it herself. With a spell, Qi Xiao restrained Xiao Qing, stating that if anything happened to her, his sacrifice for Bai Yaoyao would be in vain. Just as the third thunderbolt descended, Xiao Qing attempted to shield Qi Xiao.
Suddenly, the White Emperor of Kunlun, worried about his beloved disciple, appeared, neutralizing the thunder. He then flung Xiao Qing out of the Mingxinhu and, addressing Qi Xiao, awakened Ling Chu's memories, restoring his thousand-year magical power. He then ordered Ling Chu to intercept Zi Xuan, who was on his way to save Bai Yaoyao, to prevent him from making further grave mistakes.
Xiao Qing, now alone, lamented that both Xu Xuan and Qi Xiao (now Ling Chu) had returned to their heavenly stations, leaving her as the sole remaining inhabitant of the mortal world. As Bai Yaoyao's thunder tribulation continued, Xiao Qing, despite the warnings of her subordinates about the danger of losing her thousand years of magical power by taking the thunder, returned to Mingxintai, intending to continue blocking the thunder for her sister.
As the next thunderbolt struck, it was unexpectedly intercepted by the Demon Emperor, who appeared before Xiao Qing. Puzzled, Xiao Qing asked why he helped her, noting that she didn't remember him. The Demon Emperor, observing that she never truly cared for him, simply stated he would not stand by and watch her die. When news arrived that Bai Yaoyao's prison was collapsing, Xiao Qing desperately tried to breach the Mingxinhu barrier to reach the Empyrean Heaven.
The Demon Emperor stopped her, and Xiao Qing, in desperation, begged him for help once more. Meanwhile, as Zi Xuan traveled to save Bai Yaoyao, the Tianji Sword vibrated, signaling grave danger ahead. He realized an old acquaintance had set a grand array to stop him and entered it. Waiting for him was Ling Chu, who greeted him, questioning whether to call him Qi Xiao or Ling Chu. Xu Xuan, still in his mortal identity but with Zi Xuan's memories, responded, "If you are Xu Xuan, then I'm Qi Xiao," acknowledging his current form.
