Ru Qin is preoccupied with thoughts of Lan Sheng and the wedding gown she intends to embroider for him. Shao Gong, discerning her thoughts, promises to bring Lan Sheng back once his current tasks are completed. Ru Qin expresses regret about not being able to help Lan Sheng with his wedding attire, but Shao Gong assures her that Lan Sheng and Tu Su will return soon.

Meanwhile, Lan Sheng contemplates returning to Qin Chuan and, after much consideration, decides to go back to inquire about the "Shu Ming Pills" from Shao Gong. Xiang Ling expresses a desire to accompany Lan Sheng, which initially delights him as he misinterprets it as an agreement to marry him, but she clarifies her intention to stay close to Tu Su.

Subsequently, Ru Qin anxiously informs Tong Yi about a potential plague in Qin Chuan, urging her to stay indoors, before departing to assist Shao Gong at the medical clinic. Having returned to Qin Chuan, Shao Gong treats Ru Qin exceptionally well and promises to marry her. That evening, as Ru Qin continues to embroider Lan Sheng's wedding dress at the clinic, Shao Gong asks her when she will prepare her own wedding dress, causing Ru Qin awkwardness.

They discuss the rampant epidemic, and Shao Gong instructs Ru Qin to distribute the pills he brought from Qingyu Altar to the villagers the following day. Tong Yi, overhearing this, grows uneasy, fearing Shao Gong's intentions to harm the people of Qin Chuan and realizing she can no longer dissuade him. The next day, Tong Yi feigns illness and summons Shao Gong.

She questions his method of treating the common people and advises him not to betray the trust of the citizens and Ru Qin, making Shao Gong wary of her. Elsewhere, Wang Shu and his subordinates praise Shao Gong's contribution to controlling the plague, viewing him as a divine helper. However, one official finds the timing of the plague, coinciding with Shao Gong's return, too coincidental.

Cha Xiao Guai, initially defending Shao Gong, later overhears discussions and also begins to suspect something is amiss. Tong Yi secretly takes the Dragon Scale from Shao Gong's medicine pouch. When Shao Gong returns and asks what she is doing, Tong Yi claims she is tidying, then questions him about the medicine in his box. Sensing her suspicion, Shao Gong offers her a pill, but then, unable to bring himself to do it, retracts it.

Tong Yi deduces the pills are harmful and confronts him. Shao Gong's demeanor changes, and he tells Tong Yi to return to the East Sea to enjoy her remaining years. Tong Yi silently leaves with the Dragon Scale. Cha Xiao Guai, while caring for the infected citizens, asks Ru Qin about Shao Gong's treatment plan. Ru Qin explains that Shao Gong intends to give everyone the pills.

Cha Xiao Guai questions how Shao Gong could have known about the Qin Chuan plague from Qingyu Altar and brought medicine. Ru Qin then goes to Shao Gong to inquire about distributing the medicine, wanting to take one herself for strength, but Shao Gong refuses, stating the pills must first be given to the large number of patients. Ru Qin, trusting Shao Gong implicitly, doesn't suspect him.

When Ru Qin inquires about Tong Yi, Shao Gong tells her Tong Yi has returned home, leaving Ru Qin saddened. Yu Er then informs Ru Qin that Tong Yi is at Shao Gong's ancestral home and wishes to meet. Tong Yi reveals the truth about Shao Gong's pills and uses the Dragon Scale to show Ru Qin a scene of Shao Gong forcing a fake Xun Fang, implied to be Su Jin, to revert to her original form.

Tong Yi gives the Dragon Scale to Ru Qin and implores her to seek help from Lan Sheng and Tu Su. Ru Qin, unwilling to believe Shao Gong is evil and concerned about implicating the patients at the clinic, confronts Shao Gong directly. Shao Gong, realizing Ru Qin knows his plan, confines her within an enchantment and proceeds to distribute the pills himself.

Cha Xiao Guai receives a pill but doesn't immediately consume it, telling Shao Gong he will take it later. Cha Xiao Guai secretly attempts to rescue Ru Qin, managing to open a small crack in the enchantment. Ru Qin passes the Dragon Scale through the crack to Cha Xiao Guai, asking him to deliver it to Yue Yan, warn Yue Yan to flee, and tell Lan Sheng never to return.

As Cha Xiao Guai tries to escape to deliver the message, Shao Gong discovers him, severely injuring him. Shao Gong then corners Ru Qin, who tries to stab him with scissors, only to find him invulnerable. Shao Gong forces Ru Qin to consume his refined medicine. With his last breath, Cha Xiao Guai finds Yue Yan, gives her the Dragon Scale, and tells her to find Lan Sheng and Tu Su, before perishing. Yue Yan is heartbroken by his death.

Yin Qian Shang arrives in Qin Chuan, discovering that all the citizens have either become "living dead" or have taken Shao Gong's medicine. He finds Shao Gong and Ru Qin together at the Fang family home. Prior to this, Tu Su and Qing Xue return to Jiangdu, where Tu Su remembers Yin Qian Shang is Feng Guangmo from years past, intensifying Yin Qian Shang's fear of recalling those memories.

Fearing that his forgotten memories might conceal grave mistakes he made, Yin Qian Shang decides to confront Shao Gong for answers. Yin Qian Shang questions Shao Gong if he knew that Xun Fang was impersonated by Su Jin. Shao Gong confesses that he knew she was fake from her very first visit to Qin Chuan and admits to manipulating Lei Yan to achieve his own ambitions.

Yin Qian Shang further questions Shao Gong about his involvement in the massacre at Wu Meng Valley and suspects that Shao Gong didn't genuinely save him at the foot of Hengshan, believing he was merely a tool. Shao Gong asserts he never forced Yin Qian Shang to do anything. Yin Qian Shang recalls Shao Gong providing him with "Ghost-faced Man" attire and instructing him to steal the Sword of Burning Solitude.

Shao Gong explains that instructing him to steal the sword was for his own benefit, as it was a ferocious weapon that Youdu generations were meant to protect. Yin Qian Shang's identity is finally confirmed: he is Feng Guangmo, the sorcerer of Youdu. Confused and believing Shao Gong has succumbed to madness, Yin Qian Shang attempts to stop his destructive actions but collapses.

Shao Gong reveals he had long ago implanted a "Spirit Gu" in Yin Qian Shang to prevent such a confrontation, rendering Yin Qian Shang powerless against him. Lan Sheng, Tu Su, Qing Xue, and Xiang Ling are traveling to Qin Chuan. Tu Su and Qing Xue, who previously trusted Shao Gong, now harbor doubts, though Lan Sheng adamantly believes Shao Gong remains the same person he once knew. During a rest, they discuss Shao Gong.

Lan Sheng firmly believes Shao Gong would not harm anyone. Tu Su silently walks away, followed by Qing Xue. In a private conversation, Qing Xue advises Tu Su to be mentally prepared for the possibility of being deceived. Tu Su states that if Shao Gong has deceived him, he would first try to persuade him, but if persuasion fails, he would personally deal with him.

Lan Sheng humorously suggests returning to Qin Chuan to throw a party, but Tu Su dismisses it, remarking that Lingyue, as the busy senior disciple of Tianyong City, cannot always look after Lan Sheng. Lan Sheng then muses that if Lingyue gains power, he could secure a position at Tianyong City, but his companions show no interest in his joke. Tu Su and Qing Xue disregard Lan Sheng's chatter as Yue Yan, frail and in a panic, rushes to them.

She delivers the news of the events in Qin Chuan to Lan Sheng, urging him not to return, which he finds unbelievable. Distraught by concern for Ru Qin, Lan Sheng disregards the warning and attempts to rush to her. Tu Su and Qing Xue quickly follow to stop him. As the three walk back, they encounter a group of Qingyu Altar disciples, who are neither human nor demon. Tu Su and Qing Xue defeat them. Suddenly, Hei Yao appears in a disheveled state. Qing Xue approaches him with concern, but Hei Yao seizes her.
