Swords of Legends Episode 39 Recap
> Swords of Legends Recap
Lansheng borrowed the Candle Dragon Scale for Xiangling, who used it to search for information about her parents but found none. Lansheng comforted her and then took the scale himself. In Peach Blossom Valley, Lansheng secretly activated the Candle Dragon Scale, revealing a vision of his childhood adoption by the Fang family. This, combined with Lingyue's prior inquiry about his birthdate, led Lansheng to the emotional realization that Lingyue was his biological elder brother.
Lansheng confronted Lingyue, who, knowing Lansheng was due to return to Qin Chuan, advised him to listen to Ruqin. Heartbroken, Lansheng showed Lingyue his childhood vision with the scale. Lingyue was stunned but remained silent, refusing to acknowledge Lansheng as his brother, believing it was enough for Lansheng to live well. He then callously departed. Lansheng returned the Candle Dragon Scale to Shaogong, accusing him of knowing about his adoption all along.
Shaogong confirmed his knowledge, then advised Lansheng to calm down, reminding him of his deep bond with Ruqin and the Fang family's kindness. Lansheng, realizing he was the last to know his own identity, was left speechless, feeling sad and resentful. Ruqin came to urge Lansheng to pack for their return home to Qin Chuan, scolding him for being childish. Lansheng confessed he knew his true identity and didn't want to leave Lingyue so soon.
Ruqin then explained that it was Lingyue who wished for Lansheng to remain with the Fang family, not that she had forced Lingyue away. However, Lansheng misinterpreted Lingyue's actions as heartless. Unwilling to force him, Ruqin promised to respect Lansheng's choice. The next day, after waiting for Lansheng by her carriage, Ruqin departed for Qin Chuan alone, entrusting Shaogong with Lansheng's care. Lansheng watched her leave from a tower, filled with regret.
Xiangling encouraged Lansheng to pursue Ruqin, but Lansheng was distraught, unable to choose between Ruqin and Lingyue. To escape his current dilemma, he decided to accompany Xiangling to Red Leaf Lake in search of her family. Lingyue, finding Lansheng missing after Ruqin's departure, stayed in Jiangdu to search for him, opting not to join Shaogong at Qingyutan. Shaogong surmised that Lansheng, unable to accept his true identity, had gone with Xiangling to Red Leaf Lake.
Shaogong deliberately worried Lingyue, then suggested he go to Red Leaf Lake, assuring him that Qingyutan's affairs would be handled. Lingyue, relieved, set off. Meanwhile, Tusu brought Qingxue to Master Yao for another medical consultation, but they were pursued by Youdu priests. Tusu initially wanted Qingxue to return to Youdu, as he currently lacked a way to save her.
Qingxue, however, insisted that just as he chose not to return to Youdu, he should respect her choice to stay with him. Tusu, having gained new insights into emotions from past experiences, respected her decision and took her with him. Tusu was very short on money, even having to cut Ah Xiang's pork ration. Qingxue worried about the cost of her treatment, but Tusu reassured her, promising to earn money.
Qingxue, observing his lack of money-making skills, offered to forgo medicine, but Tusu adamantly refused. As they spoke, Xiang Tianxiao suddenly rushed in, asking Tusu about Yanmei's whereabouts. Learning Yanmei had gone to Gululu Bay, Xiang Tianxiao, Tusu, and Qingxue hurried there. At Gululu Bay, Yanmei was nowhere to be found, leaving Xiang Tianxiao distraught. Tusu suggested they split up to search.
They discovered Yanmei, in his original Kuinui form, tied to a log by a female demon preparing to eat him. Qingxue recognized him immediately, and Tusu attacked the demon. The female demon, overwhelmed, transformed into an octopus demon and fled into a nearby pool. Tusu rescued Yanmei, who reverted to human form and explained his family's feud with the octopus demon, which coveted the Kuinui tribe's treasure and sought to eradicate them.
Yanmei pleaded for Tusu's help in rescuing his captured kin. Qingxue, stopping Tusu from jumping into the pool, devised a plan: Yanmei roasted the octopus demon's severed tentacles by the water to provoke it. Tusu instructed Qingxue to find a safe hiding spot, promising to handle the fight himself. The octopus demon, enraged, emerged from the water. Tusu engaged her with his sword.
During the intense battle, the young Kuinui Yanmei cheered Tusu on, urging him to kill the octopus for its meat, which prompted Qingxue to scold Yanmei for his cruel suggestion. Tusu ultimately defeated the octopus demon and retrieved her inner core. He and Qingxue exchanged a smile, knowing that Ah Xiang's pork ration would no longer be cut. Tusu and Qingxue returned to Gululu Bay, where the Kuinui tribesmen expressed their gratitude for Tusu's rescue.
Tusu offered the octopus's inner core to Qingxue, who consumed it and immediately felt much better. Qingxue then asked Yanmei about Yaoshan. Yanmei hesitated, saying he couldn't take them there due to its extreme danger, despite knowing the way. Xiang Tianxiao, visiting Yanmei, joked with him before promising Tusu he would lead him to Yaoshan. Tusu then explained his purpose for going to Yaoshan, and Xiang Tianxiao was moved by his filial piety.
Yanmei, although touched, still worried about the danger and tried to dissuade Tusu. Tusu remained resolute, with Xiang Tianxiao further egging him on. Yanmei, out of options, asked Qingxue to persuade Tusu, but she consistently supported Tusu and did not object to his journey. Yanmei complained about Tusu's stubborn determination to venture into danger, arguing he was dragging everyone down. Tusu declared he would embark on the journey alone.
Qingxue was unhappy, but Tusu told her to return to Youdu before leaving. Meanwhile, in Qingyutan, Leiyan's death had plunged the sect into disarray. Shaogong seized this opportune moment to recruit the remaining disciples, promising a method to remove the drugs Leiyan had administered to them. Yuanwu led the disciples in pledging allegiance to Shaogong. Xun Fang returned to her former room in Qingyutan, lamenting that she felt trapped. Shaogong entered, noticing her troubled expression, and expressed concern.
Xun Fang hastily tried to conceal her feelings. Shaogong spoke tenderly, claiming he had caused her much suffering and noting her gaunt appearance. Flustered, Xun Fang quickly made an excuse to leave, while Shaogong's expression turned dark and unreadable. Earlier, Xun Fang had expressed to Shaogong her confusion about why he allowed Lingyue to leave, and doubted whether Tusu could find the Moon Spirit Flower needed for the elixir of immortality, but Shaogong had conveyed strong confidence in Tusu.
