Lansheng embraces Xiang Ling, reassuring the villagers that he will investigate the cause of their village's water shortage. Nearby, Qingxue and Tusu are strolling; Tusu expresses his deep gratitude to Luo Yunping and ponders how to thank him. Qingxue informs him that Lansheng and Xiang Ling have already gone to help the villagers find a water source as a form of repayment.

Meanwhile, Lingyue returns to Tianyong City and reports to the Revered Master about Tusu's act of eliminating a wolf demon at Tiezhuguan. The Revered Master is shocked by Tusu's self-sacrifice to kill the wolf demon and changes his opinion of Tusu, believing that based on his character, Tusu would not have killed Zhao Lin. Lingyue seizes this opportunity to propose re-investigating Zhao Lin's death.

Ling Duan, who had almost caused a major disaster at Tiezhuguan and remains unrepentant, bursts out to obstruct, vehemently insisting that Tusu was the killer and slandering him. Angered, the Revered Master scolds Ling Duan and punishes him by ordering him to copy scriptures for a month. Lingyue and Fu Qu secretly smile. Fu Qu later brings Lingyue medicine, concerned about his injuries. Lingyue tells her that should he ever leave Tianyong City, she must take good care of herself.

Lingyue explains his desire to search for his long-lost biological brother, whose whereabouts he believes he has now discovered. Fu Qu understands, though Ruqin had previously claimed Lansheng was merely a pure descendant of the Fang family, causing Lingyue to wonder how he would truly find his lost brother. Lingyue also discusses Tusu's current state with Hong Yu, expressing concern that Tusu's fiend-qi is becoming increasingly difficult to control.

Hong Yu decides to descend the mountain to protect Tusu, both from his increasingly uncontrollable fiend-qi and from the Ghost-faced Man. Lansheng and Xiang Ling continue their search for a water source, bickering all the while. Xiang Ling complains that Lansheng is useless, so Lansheng suggests they consult Luo Yunping for information. They arrive at the Mountain God Temple to find Luo Yunping and notice the abundant plant growth, leading them to believe there might be a water source nearby.

Luo Yunping greets them. Lansheng proposes moving the Mountain God Temple to dig a well, but Luo Yunping strongly objects. Xiang Ling supports Luo Yunping, believing he must have a good reason for his opposition. Undeterred, Lansheng continues to search for water and discovers a cave entrance. Daringly, he enters and finds it overgrown with vines, with a Jade Heng fragment hanging there.

Lansheng pulls the Jade Heng fragment off, puts it in his pocket, and proceeds deeper into the cave, only to be entangled and bound by the animated vines. Anxious about Lansheng's disappearance, Xiang Ling informs Luo Yunping, who takes her to search. As they pass the cave where Lansheng was captured, Xiang Ling accidentally hears Lansheng's heart-wrenching cries. Luo Yunping repeatedly tries to mislead her, claiming Lansheng is surely not in that location.

However, following her intuition, Xiang Ling ventures deeper into the cave and is also caught by the vines, ending up suspended alongside Lansheng. Seeing Luo Yunping unharmed, Lansheng deduces he is allied with the Vine Demon and curses him. Luo Yunping admits that he has no intention of harming them, but they will have some spiritual energy absorbed by the Vine Demon. He promises to release them once Tusu and Qingxue have departed.

Lansheng, protected by the Qingyu Sinanpei, is not severely harmed. Seeing Xiang Ling suffering from the vines, Lansheng sacrifices his Jade Pendant, throwing it to her. Xiang Ling immediately feels much relief, while Lansheng suffers more. Unwilling to see him in pain, Xiang Ling transforms into her true form, breaks free from the vines, and flies to Lansheng to stay with him. Tusu receives news from Ah Xiang that Tong Yi was injured and saved by Qianshang.

Worried that Shaogong might also be in danger at Qingyutan, Tusu decides to leave immediately to meet them. Qingxue notices Lansheng and Xiang Ling are missing. Luo Yunping arrives and tells them that the two went playing in the mountains and would return in a few days. As Qingxue and Tusu bid farewell to Luo Yunping, preparing to return to Jiangdu, Ah Xiang flies in.

Tusu suspects something is amiss and follows Ah Xiang, with Luo Yunping unable to stop them. Led by Ah Xiang, Tusu and Qingxue arrive at the Mountain God Temple. Tusu senses demonic energy there. Luo Yunping tells them there seems to be a cave leading underneath the Mountain God Temple, and then guides Tusu and Qingxue to the Vine Demon's cave, where Lansheng and Xiang Ling are trapped.

Once inside, Tusu and Qingxue, also guided by spirit butterflies, become entangled by the vines. Lansheng, seeing them trapped, loses all hope. Luo Yunping admits that their curiosity was too strong and declares that he will die to protect the secret of the place. Tusu, Qingxue, and Lansheng are all bound and suspended in mid-air. Lansheng recalls picking up the Jade Heng fragment.

Tusu explains that the Vine Demon uses the Jade Heng to absorb spiritual energy and asks Lansheng to give it to him, planning to use the Jade Heng to activate his fiend-qi against the Vine Demon. However, unexpectedly, after absorbing Tusu's fiend-qi, the Vine Demon becomes even more rampant, proceeding to destroy the entire village. Meanwhile, Hong Yu arrives at Ganquan Village, inquiring about Tusu and Qingxue's whereabouts.

Through her senses, she detects the Sword of Burning Solitude and locates Luo Yunping's house. Luo Yunping greets her, and Hong Yu obtains the Sword of Burning Solitude. After several attempts to test Luo Yunping, she discovers he is full of lies and forces him to reveal Tusu's location. At this moment, the village is attacked by the rampant Vine Demon, and Qingxue and the others are still hanging from the vines.

Luo Yunping steps out and addresses the Vine Demon as his "parents," pleading with them to stop harming people, but he is injured by them. Qingxue quickly uses her powers to shock the Vine Demon with electricity, which briefly paralyzes everyone. The Vine Demon throws Qingxue aside. Hong Yu arrives just in time and engages in combat with the Vine Demon, forcing it to release Tusu and the others.

Tusu prepares to confront the Vine Demon, but Luo Yunping rushes to stop him, only to be thrown onto a thatched hut by the Vine Demon. Tusu battles the Vine Demon, which ultimately explodes and dies. Afterward, everyone gathers, and Luo Yunping explains his origins and connection to the Vine Demon. He reveals that he is a Banlangen demon, who used a fragment of the Jade Heng to transform into human form.

He was adopted by a couple, and out of filial piety, he used the Jade Heng to refine an elixir for them. However, his adoptive parents suffered unbearable pain after consuming the elixir.
