Ling Xi confronted Mowgli, sensing a change in their relationship and urging him to share whatever was bothering him rather than bearing it alone. She asked if his feelings for her had been affected or if he intended to break up but was trying to make her initiate it. Ling Xi then took the initiative, telling Mowgli they should break up and asking him to finally reveal what had happened.

Mowgli then confessed that his past, specifically the incident from his childhood, was likely connected to her father, Ling Zhenghao. He showed her information he had found online, detailing how Ling Zhenghao's company, Bozhong Trading, had been involved in an incident years ago where an employee was jailed for animal poaching and accidental homicide.

Mowgli noted that after this, Ling Zhenghao closed the business and changed industries, and Ling Xi herself had mentioned being sent to Mr. Zheng's home frequently as a child. Ling Xi immediately dismissed this, asserting that her father had sent her to Mr. Zheng's because he was on a business trip to Japan, where he bought her a Doraemon gift, his last gift to her.

She firmly believed her father's character made it impossible for him to commit such a crime, citing how he had taught her values of admitting mistakes and being kind. Mowgli acknowledged he hoped it wasn't her father, but Ling Xi insisted he was innocent and vowed to investigate the truth herself. Before leaving, she tearfully asked Mowgli if their relationship would be affected if these allegations proved true. Mowgli remained silent as she walked away with red eyes.

Meanwhile, Ling Yu secretly met with Chi Xu in the stairwell after a project meeting. Ling Yu demanded that Chi Xu find a way to inflate the cooperation price. Chi Xu expressed concern about the risks, but Ling Yu was insistent, needing the extra money to cover his substantial debts with loan sharks.

He promised Chi Xu a share of the profit and mocked his hesitation, suggesting he could just ask his wife and father for money if he was that worried. Chi Xu reluctantly agreed. Unbeknownst to them, Donghai was hiding nearby, overhearing their conversation. Soon after, Ling Zhenghao arrived and walked off intimately with Ling Yu, further fueling Donghai's bitterness and resentment towards Ling Zhenghao. Zheng Li brought Bai Yiling home for dinner.

Zheng's mom, having seemingly accepted Bai Yiling, prepared an array of nutritious soups for her. However, she quickly set a condition: they must marry immediately and have a child within a year, citing Bai Yiling's age. Bai Yiling, feeling awkward, was about to speak when Zheng Li quickly intervened. To alleviate the pressure, Zheng Li falsely claimed to have a congenital chromosomal defect that prevented him from having children, shocking his parents.

Just then, Mr. Zheng received a phone call from Donghai, who was furious that Ling Zhenghao had become Ling Yu's father and demanded a meeting. Mr. Zheng, visibly stressed, excused himself. As he stepped out, he awkwardly encountered Bai Yiling, who was lost after using the bathroom. That evening, Ling Xi returned home for dinner and subtly questioned Ling Zhenghao about his business trip years ago when she was sent to Mr. Zheng's.

She mentioned her clear memory of him going to Japan. Ling Zhenghao, however, claimed he was in Europe on business. Realizing her father was lying, Ling Xi's heart sank, confirming her suspicions about his past. Mowgli, waiting outside her house, saw her dejected expression and knew her conversation with her father had yielded troubling answers. They walked in silence before parting ways, both weighed down by their thoughts.

Mowgli went to the Mozi office late to work, finding Li Yuheng there as well. Li Yuheng noticed Mowgli's emotional turmoil and sensed his relationship with Ling Xi was strained. Mowgli questioned Li Yuheng about his feelings for Ling Xi, asking what he liked about her. Li Yuheng explained he was drawn to her imperfections, sharing how his ex-wife's "perfection" felt unreal.

He theorized that in a relationship, "weaknesses" are like the friction in a tug-of-war, essential for balance, but if one person lets go, the game is over. Listening to Li Yuheng, Mowgli remembered Ling Xi's past kindness and decided to put aside his grievances, believing that even if Ling Zhenghao was involved, it shouldn't affect Ling Xi or their relationship.

Later, seeing the ID card Ling Xi had helped him obtain, Mowgli had a realization that his "game" with Ling Xi was not yet over. Meanwhile, Tang Cheng found herself at a bar, succumbing to temptation after nearly achieving her 21-day sobriety goal. To her surprise, Lu Ziyue appeared. Tang Cheng, embarrassed, pulled him outside and profusely apologized, fabricating a story about a company team-building event. Lu Ziyue, however, wasn't there to scold her.

He explained that he had realized he preferred her authentic self and didn't want her to change into a "gentle lady." He chose to accept her as she was, even if it meant defying conventional expectations like marriage, though he gently advised her to dress more conservatively at night for safety. Tang Cheng confided in him about her unconventional childhood, where her parents' dedication to wildlife conservation often left her feeling neglected and forced to be self-reliant.

Lu Ziyue empathized, calling her a "passively lonely patient" and urging her to learn not to be alone. Noticing his parents were away, Tang Cheng playfully invited Lu Ziyue to her home, where they spent the night happily playing retro video games. The next day, Mr. Zheng was about to meet Donghai in a stairwell at Wharf when Ling Xi intercepted him. She urgently questioned him about her father's whereabouts when she was six, citing her father's conflicting stories.

Ling Xi directly asked if Bozhong Trading's smuggling case was connected to Ling Zhenghao. Mr. Zheng confirmed that Bozhong Trading was indeed Ling Zhenghao's company and that her father was under police investigation, not on a business trip.

When Ling Xi pressed further, asking if the investigation also involved a homicide and if her father was innocent, Mr. Zheng admitted he didn't know the full details but urged her not to delve deeper, explaining that a father's desire to protect his daughter might lead him to withhold information. Mowgli, waiting for the elevator nearby, overheard their entire conversation. After Ling Xi left, Donghai emerged to meet Mr. Zheng.

Donghai expressed his continued inability to forgive Ling Zhenghao and questioned why Wen Yu had married him. Mr. Zheng explained that Wen Yu had become a care worker for Ling Zhenghao's sick wife, and after his wife passed away, they developed a relationship. He tried to convince Donghai that Wen Yu and Ling Yu were living a good life, but Donghai dismissed it as mere "surface brightness."

Donghai then demanded ten million from Mr. Zheng, not one million, and presented him with something on his phone as leverage. Despite having overheard the painful truth about Ling Zhenghao, Mowgli decided he still wanted to be with Ling Xi. He visited her studio, intending to propose with the ring he had prepared.

However, Ling Xi, feeling overwhelmed by the truth, lied to Mowgli, telling him that Mr. Zheng had confirmed her father was truly on a business trip and was innocent. Mowgli's expression froze upon hearing her deception. Later that morning, Lu Ziyue and Tang Cheng woke up to the sound of Lu's parents returning. Tang Cheng frantically tried to hide and then escape through a window but was caught by Lu's father.

Lu's parents were overjoyed to see the couple reconciled and immediately began pressing them about marriage. However, both Lu Ziyue and Tang Cheng, in unison, declared that they were not planning to get married, preferring to enjoy their love for the time being. Lu Ziyue even cited philosophers who had fulfilling relationships without marriage. Their parents were left utterly speechless by this pronouncement.
