Meteor Garden 2018 Episode 29 Recap
> Meteor Garden 2018 Recap
The episode begins with the aftermath of Daoming Si and Ximen's fight. Daoming Si, enraged, storms out, leaving Ximen fuming and declaring he's done with Daoming Si forever. Meizuo, witnessing Ximen's childish outburst, tries to mediate by jokingly suggesting F4 should disband. Ximen, despite his anger, hesitates, revealing how much he cherishes their friendship. Meanwhile, Daoming Si, walking alone, also reflects on his own impulsive actions. Earlier, Xiaozizi had arrived at their gathering, much to Ximen's annoyance.
Xiaozizi reminded everyone of her significant past with F4, including her engagement to Daoming Si and her friendship with Shancai. Meizuo had tried to steer the conversation, emphasizing their goal was to cheer up Daoming Si and avoid mentioning Shancai. However, when Daoming Si finally arrived, he remained sullen, calling their efforts to lighten his mood "boring" and their display of friendship "disgusting," which ultimately provoked Ximen into confronting him.
Zhou Caina, seeking to renovate her old villa, visited the design institute. She was there to sign a contract and discuss initial design concepts with the renowned architect Ye Mingchuan, also known as Terence. Ye Mingchuan, who typically specialized in grand architectural projects and not residential interiors, had made a rare exception for Caina.
He expressed his wish for her to stop avoiding him, a sentiment Caina understood, admitting she felt unable to address his unspoken questions from "that night" and preferred to avoid thinking about them. Ye Mingchuan kindly suggested they start anew, treating him simply as her decorator and a new friend, promising not to bring up their past.
As he offered to drive her home, Meizuo called, and upon learning Caina was with Ye Mingchuan, he hung up in a fit of jealousy. Meizuo then vented his frustrations to Ximen and Huaze Lei, convinced that Ye Mingchuan was actively pursuing Caina. Huaze Lei, however, was preoccupied with his own concerns, constantly messaging Shancai, who remained out of reach. Unbeknownst to them, Shancai was living a tranquil life in a remote fishing village with her parents.
Her father was still struggling with seasickness, but the family found joy in their simple existence, even inventing a delicious "Eight Treasure Roasted Squid" with a secret sauce. Their new dish proved incredibly popular, attracting long queues and even prompting their landlord to propose a franchise. Shancai's mother was initially reluctant to share the secret sauce, but Shancai cleverly suggested developing multiple flavors, ensuring a mutually beneficial partnership with the landlord. Back in Shanghai, Meizuo continued to fret over Caina.
He confessed to Ximen and Huaze Lei that Caina was drawn to his youthful energy and often expressed a desire to revisit her own youth. This sparked an idea in Huaze Lei: for F4 to join Caina in reliving their younger days. Huaze Lei then visited Daoming Si, who had become withdrawn and moody since Shancai's departure. Ms. Yu, Daoming Si's housekeeper, warmly welcomed Huaze Lei and implored him to cheer up Daoming Si.
Finding him in his room, Daoming Si remained indifferent, but Huaze Lei reminded him of F4's pact of unwavering companionship, emphasizing that sometimes they must act for the sake of those they care about. Despite Daoming Si's "boring" dismissal, he eventually agreed. The F4 boys, dressed in high school uniforms, then went to Caina's house and convinced her to join them for a spring outing. As they enjoyed the sunshine, flying kites and reminiscing, Daoming Si remained somewhat detached.
Zhou Caina approached him, recalling his past encouragement for Shancai during a cooking competition. Learning of Daoming Si's breakup with Shancai, Caina gently advised him to give Shancai ample space to process her feelings, suggesting that girls often need significant time to think. Daoming Si then candidly asked Caina if she liked Meizuo, to which she replied that she, too, needed time to reflect. Meizuo was elated after the outing, convinced he and Caina had grown closer.
He excitedly recounted Caina's compliments to Ximen and Huaze Lei, who, though annoyed by his constant boasting, eventually humored him. Meizuo then received a call from Caina, who arranged a concert date for the weekend, fueling his preparations for a "perfect date."
Simultaneously, Caina was at Ye Mingchuan's office to discuss her house design when she learned he was preparing to leave the country indefinitely to join a team building earthquake-resistant houses globally, a project led by the esteemed seismologist Mr. Brown from Cambridge. Caina initially feigned indifference, but her distress was evident. Ye Mingchuan, sensing her true feelings, pressed her about a coconut she kept at home, revealing he had seen it.
He then confessed that his encounter with her had transformed him; he no longer wished to wander alone but dreamt of traveling the world with her. He asked her to join him, granting her a few days to consider his heartfelt proposal. Back home, her butler, Mr. Lv, accidentally retrieved the coconut from under her bed.
As Caina held it, she recalled their first meeting during a rain shower, and how Ye Mingchuan had carved a smiley face on it to cheer her up. This poignant memory solidified her decision. She then messaged Meizuo, arranging to meet him at the old bar, intending to share something significant. However, Caina's joy turned to heartbreak as she arrived at Ye Mingchuan's office, only to witness him embracing Ding Qi and crying.
Feeling utterly betrayed, Caina believed Ye Mingchuan was merely a philanderer. She slapped him fiercely, refusing to listen to his attempts at explanation, and declared she never wanted to see him again. Distraught, Caina met Meizuo at the old bar that night. She praised him as a "good man," yet her bittersweet words hinted at her pain over Ye Mingchuan. She quickly drank herself into a stupor, desperately seeking oblivion.
Meizuo, concerned, took her home, where she continued to sob uncontrollably by the roadside. Once home, Caina, still intoxicated, spotted the symbolic coconut and, in a fit of rage, demanded Mr. Lv throw it away. Meizuo, observing her distraught state, gently questioned why she wanted to discard it. Caina tearfully revealed the coconut bore Ye Mingchuan's carved smiley face, and she no longer wished to be reminded of that "annoying person."
The following morning, Caina awoke, hazy from the previous night, to find Meizuo still there, having stayed to care for her. Mr. Lv recounted Caina's drunken outbursts, including her insistence on throwing away the coconut. Upon hearing that it had been tossed into the outdoor trash, Caina panicked and frantically rushed outside to retrieve it.
Witnessing her desperate search, Meizuo watched silently, a somber realization dawning on him about the deep and enduring feelings Caina still harbored for Ye Mingchuan, a bond she couldn't easily sever.
