Light Chaser Rescue Episode 8 Recap
> Light Chaser Rescue Recap
Picking up from the previous episode, Lele, who had been suffering from anorexia and physical weakness, received psychological counseling and care from Captain Ruan. His condition significantly improved; he began eating and was able to speak again. Luo Ben and Zhan Yan were somewhat relieved. They further explained to Captain Ruan that Lele's psychological issues stemmed from the Fengxi earthquake, where he witnessed much suffering, leading him to feel like a disabled patient.
They noted that Lele still needed a significant trigger to inspire him to stand and walk, otherwise he might remain in a wheelchair permanently, referencing how the bear bento had previously reminded him of his mother. Later, Ai Rui'er handed Luo Ben some documents regarding Yigu, along with a package from Fengxi County. Luo Ben opened it to find a cell phone with a shattered screen, which caused him to fall into deep thought.
As the workday concluded, Luo Ben went to a dessert shop to pick up a cake for Lele's birthday. There, he unexpectedly saw Xiong Fei and Luo Yuan happily making a cake together. Despite a flicker of discontent, Luo Ben quietly took his cake and left. Captain Ruan wheeled Lele to view a photo wall at the base. Suddenly, they heard Lele's mother's voice coming from upstairs.
It was a message she had recorded before her passing, expressing her eternal love and hope that Lele would grow up safely and happily, discovering the beauty and kindness of the world. Driven by this voice, Lele pushed his wheelchair to the stairs and painstakingly climbed to the second floor, only to discover the sound was emanating from the broken-screen phone.
Luo Ben, Luo Yuan, Zhan Yan, Xiong Fei, and others were there, encouraging him to be brave and strong, promising to celebrate his birthday with him every year. Luo Yuan also offered a gentle piece of advice, encouraging him to be as resilient as a camel. Lele then made a wish. Meanwhile, Luo Ben, aware of Luo Yuan's growing closeness with Xiong Fei, discreetly investigated Xiong Fei's background.
He discovered that Xiong Fei had once been admitted to a prestigious university but had later served time in prison due to an accident, which led to cold remarks from neighbors. At a later point, a young boy named Rui, practicing a bowline knot Xiong Fei had taught him on a rooftop, accidentally fell, leaving him dangling precariously.
Xiong Fei, hearing Rui's mother's desperate cries for help, quickly grabbed his tools and rappelled down the side of the building, successfully rescuing Rui. Despite his heroic act, Xiong Fei received no explicit gratitude from the boy's mother or the gathered crowd, who quickly dispersed. Back at the office, Zhou Mingming, looking at information about the Light Chaser Rescue team on his computer, instructed Li Aiqi to find him an enterprise management training program.
He expressed his desire to integrate theory with practice by attending classes while continuing his work. Li Aiqi, misinterpreting his intentions as a renewed commitment to the company, happily agreed to his request. That evening, Luo Ben discussed Xiong Fei with Luo Yuan at home. Luo Yuan expressed her trust in Xiong Fei, recalling how he had saved her during the earthquake and believing him to be a good person.
Luo Ben, however, cautioned her, emphasizing that as a professional lawyer who had handled many cases, he possessed a keen intuition about people. He worried that Luo Yuan's inherently simple social circle made her vulnerable. Seeing that his sister was unpersuaded, Luo Ben reluctantly presented documentation showing Xiong Fei's past incarceration. Luo Yuan spent the night reviewing the information.
The next morning, she personally brought breakfast to Xiong Fei at his workplace, attempting to convey her continued trust in him through hand gestures. However, Xiong Fei, unable to understand sign language, completely missed the meaning behind her gesture. As Luo Ben, Zhou Mingming, Ding Dingding, and others formally joined the Light Chaser Rescue team, Director Liu suggested that Zhan Yan, representing the International Rescue Team, serve as an instructor for the new recruits, providing emergency medical support.
Zhan Qingshan readily agreed, but Zhan Yan strongly objected. Director Liu then clarified that this was an assignment from higher authorities, not a request for her opinion, and required her immediate compliance, instructing her to prepare and report for duty the next day. During the introductory phase of training, Ding Dingding, eager to gather material for her comics, actively exchanged contact information with her fellow recruits, inquiring about their reasons for joining Light Chaser Rescue.
Nearby, Zhou Mingming appeared dismissive, commenting that seeking to "network" was "low-class," leading to a brief but sharp exchange where Ding Dingding challenged him to clarify who he was referring to, and he implied some people were just there to "fill up a quota." Later, Zhan Yan noticed Luo Ben's absence from the training ground and eventually found him working in his office.
Luo Ben asserted that as the team leader, he was responsible for leading and managing the team and therefore did not need to participate in the physical training himself. Zhan Yan, however, sternly warned him that if he refused to train, she would recommend to Fangqin Group that they replace him with a more capable leader. The subsequent training proved to be physically demanding, yet most participants maintained their enthusiasm and persevered, with Ding Dingding diligently capturing moments through photos.
During meal times, some new recruits complained vociferously about the intensity of the training, while Zhou Mingming and Ding Dingding continued their habitual bickering. In a personal moment, Zhan Qingshan gave Zhan Yan two identical items of clothing he had bought for her, suggesting a paternal concern beneath his stoic exterior.
Later, as Zhan Yan returned to her camp tent to prepare for the afternoon, she discovered a variety of snacks arranged on her table, which Zhan Qingshan had clearly prepared for her. This gesture left her with mixed emotions. Xiong Fei and Da Peng, serving as main instructors, announced the start of the log lift training, designed to enhance endurance and balance. Initially, Ding Dingding struggled and requested to quit.
However, upon learning that withdrawing would negatively impact her overall training score, she reluctantly returned to the exercise. Soon after, a torrential downpour began. Xiong Fei, undeterred, insisted that the team continue training. As most recruits had never experienced such intense conditions, many quickly succumbed to exhaustion and fainted. Zhan Yan furiously confronted Zhan Qingshan, reprimanding him for their apparent irresponsibility in not adequately assessing the training difficulty or considering its suitability for new recruits.
She cited multiple trainees experiencing fatigue, fainting, and fever, a situation she claimed was unprecedented in International Rescue Team training. Zhan Qingshan defended the ten-year-old training system, arguing that their team was civilian and amateur, unlike the professional International Rescue Team members who had solid foundations. Zhan Yan countered that precisely because they were amateurs, a more gradual approach was necessary. As the medical instructor, she formally demanded an immediate halt to the excessively intense training.
Zhan Qingshan stated he would respect her opinion but that any changes required a comprehensive team evaluation. Recognizing his refusal to stop the training, Zhan Yan asserted her authority and declared she would halt it herself. However, just as she was about to intervene, Luo Ben, rallying other trainees, took the lead in protesting against Xiong Fei and Da Peng. He emphatically stated that they were civilian volunteers, not military soldiers, and such rigorous physical training was inherently unreasonable.
His words resonated with the crowd, who collectively demanded a cessation of the training. Xiong Fei, however, remained unyielding. He challenged them to consider the nature of a civilian non-profit rescue team. He explained that unlike professional rescue organizations, they frequently faced skepticism and prejudice about their capabilities. To overcome these doubts, they needed to demonstrate their rescue abilities through exceptional physical fitness.
He passionately argued that without the assurance of physical endurance, they could not possibly confront natural disasters and human calamities, nor could they save lives. Luo Ben and the others were left speechless by his powerful words. Ultimately, they returned to resume their training, and even Zhan Yan, observing the scene, refrained from further intervention, gradually understanding Zhan Qingshan's reasons and explanations.
