Light Chaser Rescue Episode 35 Recap
> Light Chaser Rescue Recap
Zhan Yan suggested that honesty was fundamental for two people to live together, a sign of utmost respect. She asked Luo Ben to come home early that night, as she had something important to tell him. At his office, a colleague congratulated Luo Ben, assuming he was marrying Zhan Yan. Luo Ben, surprised by the news, then received a call from Director Lin of the welfare house.
He informed his colleague that someone wanted to adopt Lele and that he was heading to the welfare house. Zhan Yan, concerned about Luo Ben's recent recovery, offered to drive him. At the welfare house, Director Lin explained that the prospective adoptive parents were a well-educated couple in their thirties with high-paying jobs, who had no children and were very fond of Lele. However, Lele, though not rejecting them, adamantly refused to go home with them.
Director Lin pointed them to the file room where Lele was. Luo Ben found Lele, who admitted he was afraid. Luo Ben shared a secret, revealing he too was adopted from an orphanage as a child. He recounted his initial fears of a new home and unloving parents, but reassured Lele that his own foster parents had treated him wonderfully, even better than their biological daughter.
He promised Lele his new parents would be just as kind and that he would visit and watch Lele grow up. Convinced, Lele agreed to go to his new home the following day. Director Lin mentioned the newly renovated file room still had many records to sort, so Luo Ben and Zhan Yan volunteered to help, meticulously checking old files and re-labeling unclear dates.
While sorting files, Luo Ben stumbled upon a file labeled with his own name, "Luo Ben," and discovered his foster parents were Luo Yang and Pang Xue, who had been incredibly kind to him. He then saw a newspaper report titled "Zhan Qingshan, the Everyday Hero in Qingsen Earthquake" featuring a child in a photo. He recognized the child as himself. Luo Ben realized that he was the very child Zhan Qingshan had been searching for all these years.
Overcome with excitement, he immediately called Zhan Yan, leaving a voicemail saying he had found the child and was heading to the base to find Captain. Arriving at the base, Luo Ben announced to Zhan Qingshan that he had found the child he sought, revealing that the child was himself. He presented the newspaper photo, pointing out his clothes and orphanage admission date matched.
He explained he discovered this while helping sort files at the orphanage, a list Zhan Yan had given him, and how he intended to surprise Zhan Yan. Luo Ben expressed profound gratitude to Zhan Qingshan for saving him and Zhan Yan, promising to live up to their expectations. Zhan Yan arrived shortly after, and Zhan Qingshan confirmed that Luo Ben was indeed the child he had been searching for.
Luo Ben, overjoyed by what he perceived as a miraculous reunion, declared that this wonderful coincidence would erase all the past pain and regret. Zhan Yan, sensing Zhan Qingshan's overwhelming emotions, stepped in, suggesting they give him time to process the sudden revelation. Later, Zhan Qingshan privately discussed the matter with Zhan Yan, expressing his reluctance to tell Luo Ben the full truth.
He confessed that since Zhan Yan's mother passed away, he felt immense guilt and wanted to protect Zhan Yan's happiness, believing that hiding the truth would prevent any interference with her relationship. Zhan Yan, however, argued that Zhan Qingshan had carried this burden for years, and only by confronting the truth could he truly find peace. She also emphasized that honesty was crucial for a lasting relationship, insisting that hiding secrets would only lead to problems in the long run.
Zhan Yan admitted that she had known Luo Ben was the child her father was looking for all along but had lacked the courage to tell him, fearing she would lose him. She realized her self-centeredness and acknowledged that hiding was not the solution. She assured her father that she would face any outcome with him, convincing Zhan Qingshan to reconsider. That night, Zhan Yan awoke from a terrifying nightmare, clinging to Luo Ben, fearful that he would leave her.
Luo Ben comforted her, assuring her he would never leave and that their bond was destined. The next day, Luo Ben was at the base, installing shelves, when Zhan Qingshan arrived. Luo Ben praised Zhan Qingshan as a responsible captain and hero, recounting a recurring dream of powerful, warm hands rescuing him from rubble, hands he believed belonged to Zhan Qingshan.
Zhan Qingshan then revealed the painful truth: those hands belonged to Luo Ben's parents, who had shielded him with their bodies during the earthquake. He confessed he was not a hero, and the newspaper report had misrepresented the events. He admitted that his attempt to save Zhan Yan's mother, Xiaojie, first, had inadvertently caused a secondary collapse, indirectly leading to the deaths of Luo Ben's parents.
Luo Ben was shattered, realizing that the person he most admired had indirectly caused his parents' demise. Zhan Qingshan explained he had been searching for Luo Ben for years to confess. Luo Ben questioned why he hadn't revealed it earlier, to which Zhan Qingshan replied that he had to consider Zhan Yan's feelings and their relationship. However, Zhan Yan had persuaded him that withholding the truth was unfair to Luo Ben.
The revelation that Zhan Yan had known all along left Luo Ben feeling foolish and deeply betrayed, shattering his belief in their fated connection. Zhan Qingshan took full responsibility, explaining how he had dedicated himself to rescue work to alleviate his immense guilt. Luo Ben vehemently rejected this, angrily asserting that his parents might have survived if Zhan Qingshan had simply waited for professional rescuers. Overwhelmed by grief and betrayal, Luo Ben returned home.
Back at his place, Luo Ben searched Zhan Yan’s belongings and discovered the old earthquake photo in a book. He confronted Zhan Yan, his voice laced with pain, asking when she had known. Zhan Yan, tears streaming down her face, admitted she found out after his proposal and apologized profusely, explaining she hadn't known how to tell him.
Luo Ben expressed his profound heartbreak, feeling that fate had played a cruel joke on him, as the hero he revered had indirectly caused his parents' death, and the woman he loved had kept him in the dark. He wished the truth had never come to light. Despite Zhan Yan’s tearful apologies, her words could not mend the deep wound in his heart, leaving a chasm between them.
After a night of anguished reflection, Zhan Yan quietly packed her suitcase and left, leaving behind a letter for Luo Ben. In her letter, she expressed her sorrow, acknowledging that her father's indirect involvement in his parents' deaths had profoundly impacted both of them. She suggested they needed time and space to process everything, as they currently didn't know how to move forward.
Meanwhile, Ai Rui'er noticed Luo Ben's absence from work and went to his apartment to retrieve some urgent court documents. Luo Ben, sitting by the sea lost in thought, gave her the entry code. Entering the apartment, Ai Rui'er discovered Zhan Yan had moved out and found the letter, thus learning the secret that had unfolded between them. Soon after, Shen Ruoxi returned to the dorm to find Zhan Yan had moved back in.
Despite not knowing the full story, Shen Ruoxi advised Zhan Yan against moving out her belongings during a conflict, arguing that keeping her things at Luo Ben's place would signify her claim and provide a natural reason to return. Zhan Yan, however, insisted that both she and Luo Ben needed time and space to calm down.
Shen Ruoxi countered that a woman’s time was precious, whereas a man had ample space, warning that this approach often left women at a disadvantage and could give others an opportunity to intervene. Later, Luo Ben returned home and found Zhan Yan's letter, his heart heavy with mixed emotions. Soon after, Zhan Yan fell ill with a high fever. Shen Ruoxi rushed to her side, discovering her temperature was 39. 2 degrees Celsius.
Shen Ruoxi suggested that this was the perfect opportunity to inform Luo Ben and potentially reconcile, but Zhan Yan refused, stating she didn't need sympathy. Ignoring Zhan Yan's wishes, Shen Ruoxi called Luo Ben, chastising him for not knowing about his girlfriend's illness and urging him to come care for her. Luo Ben, visibly distracted during a meeting, ended the call abruptly.
He immediately drove to Zhan Yan’s building, but hesitated to go upstairs, instead calling Shen Ruoxi again to check on Zhan Yan's nearly 40-degree fever, asking Shen Ruoxi to take good care of her. Shen Ruoxi, frustrated, questioned his manhood, reminding him of Zhan Yan's unwavering care when his leg was broken. Overhearing the conversation, Zhan Yan ran downstairs to confront Luo Ben, who was still by his car.
She admitted that her fear of losing him had caused her to hesitate in revealing the truth. Acknowledging that she had no right to ask for his forgiveness, Zhan Yan removed her engagement ring and returned it to him, a clear sign that their relationship had come to an end. As she turned and walked back upstairs, she could no longer hold back her tears.
