She explained that while Zhan Qingshan's injuries had healed and his postoperative recovery was good, he still needed a few more days of observation before he could be discharged. Initially, Luo Ben believed Zhan Yan was still determined to go to Fengqi to advance her career, despite her father's recent surgery and the ten years of lost family affection between them.
He expressed his concern that she seemed too anxious to leave. To his delight, Zhan Yan revealed that she had decided not to go and had already informed the Dean, who would explain her decision to Professor Coben. When Luo Ben pressed her on whether her decision was because of him or Zhan Qingshan, she playfully evaded the question, finding Luo Ben's unexpected jealousy endearing. She then jokingly asked him for a kiss to ease his tension.
Meanwhile, Ding Dingding accompanied Zhou Mingming home to celebrate his mother, Ma Ruifen's, birthday, bringing a specially chosen gift of "Beauty Oral Liquids," hoping for its anti-wrinkle benefits. However, Ma Ruifen immediately made it clear she had not invited Ding Dingding and criticized the gift, even unfavorably comparing it to gifts she wouldn't buy for her own mother. Zhan Yan lovingly cooked noodles for her father, demonstrating their newly harmonious father-daughter relationship. She also carefully provided him with medical advice, including medication instructions and a reminder to rest and avoid strenuous activity. As Zhan Yan prepared to leave for the hospital, she asked Luo Ben for a ride.
Luo Ben, still playfully petty about their earlier conversation, refused, claiming the law firm and hospital were not on the same route. He then added that his earlier good deed getting the mattress was for Zhan Qingshan, not for Zhan Yan.
At the hospital, Shen Ruoxi was seen reading a book about relationships and openly advised Zhan Yan to be more proactive in her romantic pursuits, emphasizing that affection is a two-way street and one shouldn't wait until it's too late to regret. Later, Zhan Yan visited Zhan Qingshan at the base to check his blood pressure. They discussed the young boy Zhan Qingshan rescued during the earthquake.
Zhan Qingshan revealed he had traced the boy to an orphanage, but he was adopted by a family who wished to remain undisturbed, making further searches difficult. Zhan Qingshan expressed his desire to find the boy, tell him the truth, and seek his forgiveness to find closure. Zhan Yan assured him that with modern technology, finding the boy would be possible and offered her help.
Separately, Dapeng approached Luo Ben, apologizing for his previous behavior and acknowledging Luo Ben's role in his reconciliation with Zhan Qingshan, cementing their bond as "good brothers." Zhan Yan visited Luo Ben at his law firm to invite him to dinner. Gao Junchi immediately seized the opportunity to tease Luo Ben publicly, announcing that Luo Ben and "Dr. Zhan" were "getting married soon," claiming to have proof saved on his phone and net disk.
He then suggested Luo Ben treat the entire firm. Luo Ben attempted to shut him down, insisting everyone work overtime. Zhan Yan, however, kindly offered to provide midnight snacks for the team. However, when Luo Ben relayed the invitation to Gao Junchi, Gao Junchi quickly made an excuse about a mandatory meeting and begged Luo Ben to reject the invitation on his behalf, indicating his strong disinterest in Shen Ruoxi. That evening, Gao Junchi and Luo Ben found themselves at a bar.
Gao Junchi, oblivious to Zhan Yan and Shen Ruoxi's presence, shared his "hunter and deer" philosophy regarding women, advising Luo Ben that the more one likes a woman, the more space one should give her, comparing it to pulling on a rope – sometimes tight, sometimes loose. He even suggested Luo Ben's earlier refusal to meet Zhan Yan was a good example of "playing cat and mouse."
Zhan Yan, who had arrived at the same bar with Shen Ruoxi, overheard this conversation. Her face darkened as she turned and left, calling Luo Ben a "hunter" who "chased the wrong target." Luo Ben immediately chased after her, profusely apologizing, admitting his pettiness and jealousy over her initial decision to go to Fengqi, and confessing his love and regret for every time he had pushed her away. Zhan Yan, seeing his sincerity, forgave him, and they embraced.
Meanwhile, Shen Ruoxi took the stage, enchanting the audience with her angelic voice despite comments about her appearance. Gao Junchi, initially unaware of her identity, was deeply impressed by her singing and defended her against the superficial remarks. He later approached her, expressing his admiration for her talent. To his shock, Shen Ruoxi removed her mask, revealing her true identity. Linjiang City was hit by severe continuous downpours, affecting thousands of residents.
The Light Chaser Rescue team actively participated in the relief efforts, assisting firefighters and armed police in clearing debris. During the rescue operations, Xiong Fei encountered Qiangzi, an ex-convict he knew. Qiangzi explained that he had recently been released from prison after being tricked into a pyramid scheme, which led him to defraud his relatives and friends. Ashamed and unable to repay his debts, he was living on the streets.
Moved by Qiangzi's plight, Xiong Fei offered him a job as a helper on his small food truck, where he sold wontons. Later, Luo Ben picked up Zhan Yan from work. At home, he cooked Tangyuan for her. Zhan Yan embraced him from behind, expressing how she longed for such a life – filled with light, the warmth of cooking, delicious food, and the cheerful laughter of family.
She told him she thought she had lost that possibility after her mother's death but had found it again with him. Luo Ben tenderly assured her that as long as he was there, she would always have a home. Separately, Xiong Fei offered Qiangzi money for a hotel room for the night. However, Qiangzi refused, preferring to sleep in the spacious food truck, believing it offered sufficient shelter from the wind and rain. Later that night, Luo Yuan went out to the food truck to get something and was startled to discover Qiangzi sleeping inside, causing her to flee in fright.
