Following a recent motorcycle accident involving Zhou Mingming and Li Jian, Zhou Mingming quickly came to Li Jian's aid. Soon after, Zhou Mingming's mother arrived, expressing her intense frustration and anger. She sternly questioned his safety and criticized his involvement in a body recovery operation in Linjiang, revealing she knew he had joined a rescue team and feared for his life.

She then announced the immediate abolition of the Comic Department, which she had opened for him, citing its failure to meet monthly key performance indicators. She also revealed her belief that Ding Dingding had influenced his decision to join the rescue team, declaring that Zhou Mingming would now concentrate solely on the company's core projects.

Subsequently, an employee informed Ding Dingding that her contract was terminated and the Comic Department was dissolved, explaining it was not the company's main business and had failed to meet performance targets. She was assured that all compensation would be paid the next day. Distraught, Ding Dingding called Zhou Mingming, accusing him of irresponsibility. He confirmed the situation, admitting his mother had overruled his objections to keeping the department.

However, he encouraged Ding Dingding to continue creating comics, promising to "buy her back" once he reestablished himself, provided she depicted his character well. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Zhan Yan discovered that Qin Huizhen, a patient, had left her bed at 6:00 AM and had not returned by noon. Security footage showed Qin Huizhen taking an elevator at 6:05 AM and exiting the hospital building to get into a taxi at 6:25 AM, though the license plate was unidentifiable.

Hospital staff were puzzled by the unexplained 20-minute gap in her journey. Shortly after, Qin Huizhen's son, Zhao Donglei, arrived at the hospital, creating a commotion and demanding compensation, accusing Zhan Yan, as his mother's attending physician, of losing her. Onlookers criticized Zhao Donglei, pointing out that he had never visited his mother during her half-month hospitalization. Luo Ben, identifying himself as a lawyer, intervened, offering his services to Zhao Donglei, and led him away for a private conversation.

In the hallway, Zhao Donglei voiced his suspicion of overtreatment by the hospital, claiming they encouraged his mother to have unnecessary surgery to defraud her, and demanded compensation. Luo Ben sternly warned him that neglecting a sick elderly parent constituted a felony, punishable by up to five years in prison. He emphasized that everyone in the hospital was aware of Qin Huizhen's situation and that Zhao Donglei had not visited her since her discharge.

Luo Ben stressed that if the hospital reported Qin Huizhen's disappearance to the police, Zhao Donglei would face severe legal consequences beyond mere moral condemnation. Startled by Luo Ben's words, Zhao Donglei backed down, though he departed with a threat that the matter was not over. Later, the hospital held an emergency meeting concerning Qin Huizhen's disappearance. Director Cai, Zhan Yan's supervisor, accepted responsibility for the lapse, and Zhan Yan acknowledged her direct accountability as the attending physician.

However, the hospital head stressed that the immediate priority was to locate Qin Huizhen. Fortunately, members of the Light Chaser Rescue Ningcheng Division found Qin Huizhen after she jumped into a river. They rescued her, unconscious, and transported her to the nearest clinic. Luo Ben arrived to speak with her, expressing concern about her abrupt departure and mentioning that even her son was worried. Qin Huizhen, however, dismissed any worry from her son, stating he only cared about her money.

Zhan Yan informed Luo Ben that Qin Huizhen's health had worsened due to the ordeal, rendering her unfit for surgery. Zhan Yan believed Qin Huizhen's greatest pain was her son's attitude. Luo Ben disagreed, asserting that Zhao Donglei was the truly pathetic one, mistaking money for true value, and would only understand what he had lost once his mother was gone.

In a show of defiance against his mother's decision to dissolve the Comic Department, Zhou Mingming began to act disengaged in company meetings and client negotiations. His mother confiscated his phone to force him to focus. However, his assistant, Li Aiqi, covertly returned it. While reviewing Ding Dingding's latest comic updates, Zhou Mingming received an urgent call from Li Aiqi, informing him that his mother had fainted due to high blood pressure.

The company was facing a severe cash flow crisis stemming from a problematic investment of hundreds of millions of yuan in a film project. His mother, upon regaining consciousness, simply told him it was time for him to "grow up." Meanwhile, Ding Dingding, after being stood up by Zhou Mingming for an agreed meeting, sought solace at Xiong Fei's wonton shop. Luo Yuan, noticing Ding Dingding's crestfallen mood, observed traces of her affection for Zhou Mingming within her comic art.

Despite Ding Dingding's repeated denials, Luo Yuan encouraged her to acknowledge her true feelings. Ding Dingding, embarrassed, then boasted about her ambition to become a nationally renowned illustrator whose work would be discussed everywhere. Still feeling self-conscious from her conversation with Luo Yuan, Ding Dingding took some wontons to Zhou Mingming's company. She unexpectedly ran into him at the entrance and, improvising, claimed she was there for a job interview.

Zhou Mingming, unaware of the food she brought for him, believed her and playfully teased her for bringing food to an interview before leaving. Later, Luo Ben arrived at the hospital with roses to visit Zhan Yan, only to encounter Cai Yuxiao. Luo Ben noticed Cai Yuxiao's distinctive camel keychain. Cai Yuxiao openly revealed it was a gift from his ex-girlfriend and then subtly advised Luo Ben that Zhan Yan disliked roses.

Luo Ben, feeling a pang of jealousy, subsequently ignored Zhan Yan's phone calls. Zhan Yan eventually confronted him at his home, confirming her past relationship with Cai Yuxiao during their college days. Luo Ben then confessed that Zhan Yan was his first love. The following morning, Luo Ben personally drove Zhan Yan to work, displaying a childish but endearing act of showing off a keychain to Cai Yuxiao, explicitly stating Zhan Yan had bought it for him.

To this, Cai Yuxiao wryly countered that Luo Ben was "childish." Back at the hospital, Zhao Donglei returned to Qin Huizhen's room, attempting to force her to affix her fingerprint to a document to claim her assets. Qin Huizhen resisted, and Luo Ben intervened, instructing Zhao Donglei to leave. Qin Huizhen then decided to draft a will, entrusting Luo Ben as her legal representative to donate all her assets to the Light Chaser Rescue. Luo Ben recorded her official statement.

Later, Luo Ben and Zhan Yan discussed the complexities of his legal profession. Luo Ben reflected on his experiences as a lawyer, acknowledging that he had witnessed both the best and worst of humanity and had suffered personal losses and deceptions. Despite this, he explained, he remained committed to helping others, although he now operated with a clearer set of principles.

He admitted that assisting Qin Huizhen had, in fact, challenged his usual principles, but he credited Zhan Yan for inspiring him to change. He told her that her presence allowed him to maintain faith in the inherent goodness of humanity, even while being acutely aware of its darkness. He assured her that he understood helping Qin Huizhen might invite criticism but pledged to stand by her regardless.

Soon after, Zhao Donglei appeared at Luo Ben's law firm, having been notified of his mother's will. Luo Ben informed him of Qin Huizhen's will, which specified donating all her assets to the Light Chaser Rescue, and provided him with a copy. Zhao Donglei erupted in anger, asserting his right as the primary heir and threatening legal action if he didn't receive the money immediately.

As Zhao Donglei departed, Old He, a colleague, advised Luo Ben not to waste his time and energy on what he considered "petty" legal disputes like family inheritance squabbles, urging him instead to focus on "bigger and more significant cases." Luo Ben acknowledged his colleague's counsel.
