Dr. Cai Yuxiao was promoted to Associate Chief Physician of General Surgery, receiving congratulations from his colleagues. Even Zhan Yan expressed her sincere conviction that he was indeed more suitable for the position than herself, feeling truly convinced by his capabilities. However, some colleagues still felt that Cai Yuxiao’s promotion was not entirely deserved, believing it was solely due to Director Zha’s influence. A celebratory dinner was organized for Cai Yuxiao, and guests insisted he invite Zhan Yan.
Cai Yuxiao, having already prepared a gift, had a plan in mind. That evening, Cai Yuxiao attentively shielded Zhan Yan from drinking, which drew teasing remarks from their colleagues. Zhan Yan remained quiet throughout the dinner and left early, emphasizing her scheduled surgery the next morning. Cai Yuxiao did not try to keep her but instead walked her out, intentionally mentioning their shared journey towards common goals and how this mutual progress was the essence of their relationship.
Zhan Yan seemed to understand his intentions but offered no reply, simply getting into her car and driving away. Later, Linjiang City Hospital and the Light Chaser Rescue team held a joint meeting to discuss medical equipment and supplies for the post-disaster reconstruction of Fengxi. As the designated support unit, the hospital sent Zhan Yan and Cai Yuxiao as representatives. Luo Ben attended on behalf of Fangqin Group, which was donating medical equipment to Fengxi.
Zhan Qingshan and Xiong Fei from the Light Chaser Rescue team also arrived. During the meeting, Cai Yuxiao showed great concern for Zhan Yan, even draping his jacket over her, a sight that caused Luo Ben to roll his eyes from across the room. He reminded her of their beautiful college romance, explaining that she had broken up with him before graduation because of family concerns and a fear of marriage.
Now, Cai Yuxiao asserted, he was capable of giving her happiness, having even bought a house near the hospital. He hoped Zhan Yan would accept his heartfelt proposal to rekindle their relationship. Despite Cai Yuxiao’s earnest words, Zhan Yan felt no emotional stir. She affirmed that her decision to break up with him years ago was sincere, indicating they were simply not compatible. She confessed that her romantic feelings for Cai Yuxiao had long faded.
Cai Yuxiao was deeply disappointed but declared his willingness to wait for her, stating he had already waited seven years and would continue to do so. Zhan Yan, not wanting to respond further, went alone to the wine cellar to choose a bottle of wine. Outside, a torrential downpour began. Cai Yuxiao, looking through a window, noticed a landslide occurring. He frantically called out to Zhan Yan, urging her to leave quickly. However, it was too late.
A mudslide surged into the cellar, overturning wine racks and heavily pinning Zhan Yan's legs. With no other options, Cai Yuxiao decided to go for help. But just as he ran out of Xishan Homestay, the entire building was instantly buried by the mudslide, filling him with overwhelming terror. Upon learning of his daughter's predicament, Zhan Qingshan immediately led the rescue team towards Xishan.
Luo Ben also turned back without hesitation, braving the heavy rain to participate in the rescue efforts. Trapped beneath the debris, Zhan Yan gradually regained consciousness, feeling utterly drained of strength. She recalled the self-rescue knowledge Zhan Qingshan had taught her: in a 100-square-meter confined space, there would be enough air to last three days. She knew she needed to remain calm and use available resources for self-rescue to avoid rapid deterioration of her condition.
Luo Ben, Cai Yuxiao, and Ai Rui'er dug their way to a cellar window. Unsure of the conditions inside, Luo Ben, despite Ai Rui'er's objections, insisted on entering to find Zhan Yan. He entrusted Ai Rui'er with the care of Luo Yuan should anything happen to him. Unable to stop him, Ai Rui'er angrily accused Cai Yuxiao of being a coward. Cai Yuxiao retorted, questioning if Ai Rui'er would sacrifice her life for Luo Ben either.
As the mountain experienced another landslide, Luo Ben and Zhan Yan became completely trapped inside. Cai Yuxiao and Ai Rui'er instinctively ran to safety, watching as the situation became even more dire. Meanwhile, Xiong Fei had been avoiding Luo Yuan, but after receiving a message from Zhan Qingshan, he quickly took Luo Yuan to the base to monitor the situation. Inside the cellar, Luo Ben and Zhan Yan leaned weakly against a wall.
After checking each other for serious injuries and finding none, they sighed in relief, silently awaiting external rescue. Zhan Qingshan and his team arrived at the burial site and immediately began to implement their rescue plan, focusing their efforts on the window area where an initial entry had been made. At the same time, Ding Dingding sought solace in alcohol, tearfully confiding in Zhou Mingming about her deep bond with Zhan Yan, eventually passing out drunk in his arms. Zhou Mingming tried to comfort her, emphasizing Zhan Yan's good deeds and assuring her that she would be safe, while scolding Ding Dingding for drinking so much.
