> Legend of Zang Hai Recap

Zang Hai attended court with the civil and military officials, but the Emperor, who was unwell, did not appear. In the past, Cao Jingxian would attend in his place to hear the officials’ reports, but he didn’t come either, so the officials all went home. Prince Yongrong entered the palace to visit the Emperor, who was still preoccupied with his woodworking.

Upon leaving, Prince Yongrong ran into Zang Hai and told him that Cao Jingxian had been critically injured in an attack the previous night. Zang Hai remained expressionless—he had personally set the trap in the Marquis’s estate cellar, so of course he knew Cao Jingxian had been attacked. Prince Yongrong hated Cao Jingxian to the bone and hoped he would die soon.

Knowing Zang Hai also resented Cao Jingxian, he made some sarcastic remarks in front of Zang Hai and quickly left. Cao Jingxian was gravely wounded and barely clinging to life. Lu Yan stayed by his side, never leaving him, to care for him. Lu Ran discovered that only Zang Hai had entered the Marquis’s estate after the seizure and suspected that Zang Hai had set the deadly trap in the cellar.

All Cao Jingxian could think about was finding the Gui Seal. Overcome with anxiety, he coughed up blood again, terrifying Lu Ran and Lu Yan. After eliminating both Zhuang Luyin and Cao Jingxian, Zang Hai had only one enemy left: Queen Ming Yu Su Ti of Dongxia. He instructed Gao Ming to spread news that Xiang Antu had gone missing, hoping to lure Ming Yu Su Ti out. But she didn’t show.

Zang Hai decided to go to Dongxia himself after the New Year to seek revenge. As the New Year approached, Zang Hai invited Gao Ming, Shi Lei, and Guan Feng to celebrate with him and also asked Liu Chu to accompany Xiang Antu. He wanted Guan Feng and Shi Lei to study at the Imperial Astronomical Bureau. Neither of them wanted to go, so Zang Hai didn’t push the matter.

Zang Hai discussed with Liu Chu the plan to release Xiang Antu after the New Year. Liu Chu could tell that Zang Hai liked Xiang Antu but was burying his feelings because of his family’s vendetta. She advised Zang Hai not to miss his chance with Xiang Antu or he would regret it. Zang Hai decided to resign and go to Dongxia, but then suddenly received a notice from the Ministry of Works and rushed over to investigate.

The people of Dongxia had acquired a rare treasure, and Queen Ming Yu Su Ti planned to personally present it to the Emperor of Great Yong. She specifically requested to stay in her daughter Xiang Antu’s hostage palace, and the Emperor ordered the Ministry of Works to quickly renovate it. Ming Yu Su Ti arrived in the capital of Great Yong in a grand procession with her Dongxia envoys, bringing generous gifts for the Emperor.

Upon hearing that Xiang Antu was unwell, the Emperor sent medicinal herbs to her. Finally, Ming Yu Su Ti had her people bring forth a finely crafted wooden palace made using the long-lost mortise and tenon structure. It was a "deadlock" mechanism that could only be closed, not opened. Knowing the Emperor enjoyed woodworking, Ming Yu Su Ti catered to his interests with this gift and asked him to have someone open it to retrieve the treasure inside.

The Vice Minister of Works volunteered to open the wooden palace. After examining it, he realized it was a deadlock mechanism that could only be dismantled by force, so he hesitated. Prince Yongrong recommended Zang Hai try. Zang Hai examined the palace closely and soon discovered the hidden mechanism—it was the unique skill of his father, Kuai Duo. Zang Hai found himself in a dilemma: if he succeeded, his identity would be exposed.

Ming Yu Su Ti made mocking remarks nearby. In one bold move, Zang Hai opened the wooden palace, revealing a jade embryo shaped like an infant—the rare treasure. The Emperor was delighted, and Ming Yu Su Ti seized the moment to request Zang Hai to choose a site for the jade embryo, which the Emperor readily agreed to. Guan Feng brought pigeon soup to Xiang Antu.

She poured the soup over her rice and scolded Guan Feng, who left and reported to Zang Hai. Zang Hai had no choice but to go see Xiang Antu and promised to release her soon. When Xiang Antu learned her mother, Ming Yu Su Ti, had arrived in the capital, she was both shocked and overjoyed—it was something she had dreamed of day and night.

But now she didn’t want to see her mother; she only wanted to run away with Zang Hai. Zang Hai heartlessly rejected her, leaving Xiang Antu in tears. Zang Hai, too, was torn apart—he could no longer choose between love and revenge. Zang Hai was tasked with selecting a site for the jade embryo, and Ming Yu Su Ti accompanied him, even asking Zang Hai to be her carriage driver.

Zang Hai was eager to know if her last visit to the capital was when his parents were killed. Ming Yu Su Ti brushed him off with vague excuses. She had received a letter from Xiang Antu and learned that she had feelings for Zang Hai. Ming Yu Su Ti was curious whether Zang Hai was Kuai Duo’s son or disciple. Zang Hai did not give a direct answer.

Ming Yu Su Ti pressured Zang Hai to take her to see Xiang Antu and ordered her people to drug all accompanying Great Yong officials. Zang Hai agreed to take her to Xiang Antu.
