Till the End of the Moon Episode 40 (Ending) Recap
> Till the End of the Moon Recap
Tantai Jin invited Li Susu to join him in a toast, not to heaven and earth, but to all the sins and deaths in the world. They drank the final cup of bridal wine, with Tantai Jin stating it was to wish for them to be together forever. When Li Susu expressed her dissatisfaction with the dark and gloomy Devil Palace, Tantai Jin acknowledged his oversight and restored it to its former majestic appearance.
He explained that upon becoming the Devil God, he understood that good and evil are all forms of karma. He stated that the Devil God would never perish as long as sin existed, and only when the All-in-Distress Way opened and the world succumbed to chaos could all beings truly find a common resting place. As the Devil Palace ascended, people below watched in alarm.
Tantai Jin asked Li Susu if she was satisfied with his "gift," declaring that the Four Continents and Three Realms now belonged to him, and she would forever be his "caged bird" and the most intriguing ornament in his Devil Palace. Li Susu responded that the Devil God had indeed given her a generous gift, and she, in turn, would offer a significant present. She summoned the Chongyu Harp.
Tantai Jin scoffed, reminding her that her current spiritual power couldn't harm him. Li Susu revealed her intention was not to play it, but to burn it to unleash its divine power, stating she wouldn't need it anymore. Simultaneously, she activated the Self-Sacrifice Array. Gongye Jiwu arrived with other immortal sects, seeing Li Susu’s array had trapped Tantai Jin.
He and the others decided this was the opportune moment to initiate the Celestial Punishment Great Array to eliminate the Devil God, acknowledging that Li Susu would be caught in the crossfire. His companions urged him to prioritize demon eradication over saving Li Susu. Tantai Jin told Li Susu that she should hate him, but even more so, herself for her foolish belief that love was anything but a delusion to him.
Li Susu conceded that her foolishness in attempting to lead him into the light had caused such heavy darkness. As a disciple of the Hengyang Sect and daughter of Qu Xuanzi, she declared it was her duty to sacrifice herself, vowing that even if she died, other immortal disciples would follow to kill him.
Tantai Jin dismissed her efforts as futile, declaring he would make them all perish as sacrifices to the All-in-Distress Way, before Li Susu bade him a final farewell. Tantai Jin pulled Li Susu into the Celestial Punishment Great Array, mockingly pointing out that her immortal allies were abandoning her. He revealed the array consisted of eighty-one celestial thunderbolts, which even his Devil God body would struggle to endure unscathed.
Tantai Jin then forced Li Susu to bear the brunt of the thunderbolts, telling her to accept them as compensation for him, though a flicker of pain crossed his face as she suffered the strikes. Seeing Tantai Jin seemingly escape the full impact of the array, Gongye Jiwu charged forward to strike him down. Tantai Jin noticed Gongye Jiwu using a forbidden spell to absorb the power of his fellow disciples, which was twisting his appearance.
He questioned if Gongye Jiwu still knew who he was, warning that once he fell into evil, there would be no redemption. Gongye Jiwu defiantly stated that all he cared about was killing Tantai Jin. To prevent him from completely losing his sanity, Tantai Jin conjured the Marrow-Washing Seal to siphon the demonic power from Gongye Jiwu, hoping to free him from his evil thoughts.
He told him he shouldn't be tyrannical and twisted, and that this was his way of repaying his debts to him. Tantai Jin fully manifested as the Devil God, his form representing the sins accumulated since the world's creation. Li Susu understood this was his true motive for desiring the destruction of the Four Continents and Three Realms. Tantai Jin affirmed his deep connection to the All-in-Distress Way, stating that their existence was bound together.
With the evil bone now separated from his body, the All-in-Distress Way intensified, causing widespread suffering reminiscent of the ancient war between gods and demons. In the mortal realm, Ye Qingyu used his demonic power to create a protective barrier over the Jing Kingdom's civilians. To ensure Li Susu's hatred would push her to the final step, Tantai Jin unleashed the God-slaughtering Crossbow upon the immortal disciples.
Witnessing a tragedy echoing the events of five centuries ago, Li Susu, consumed by grief and fury, entered a sanctuary within her own heart. There, she encountered her mother, Chu Huang, and the Twelve Gods, finally breaking through the Heartless Way and ascending to godhood. Now a true god, Li Susu transported Tantai Jin to the last area untouched by the All-in-Distress Way.
She revealed that she knew his true desire was for her to become a god and kill him. She explained that in the moment she broke through the Heartless Way, she had seen every corner of the world, heard every sound, and sensed everything, including his heart.
She realized that while he had absorbed the Devil God's power, he was never controlled by it; he had only presented himself as the Devil God to compel her to abandon her emotions and achieve godhood. Li Susu lamented that her existence was predestined for his demise. Tantai Jin replied that his life had been difficult, and he wanted her to end it.
He then took her to a high vantage point, revealing the world from a divine perspective—a sight mortals, forever trapped within it, could never behold. Tantai Jin implored her to save the world and change its fate, explaining that the Devil God's true goal was not to rule, but to destroy all things and return the universe to chaos. He confirmed that he had linked himself to the All-in-Distress Way; they would live and die together.
He urged her to kill him, assuring her that doing so would destroy the All-in-Distress Way and end the ten thousand years of conflict. Li Susu said she had many things to tell him but would wait until they could "meet again." She then kissed him and, with a heavy heart, struck him. As the Devil God "died," the All-in-Distress Way began to dissipate.
Li Susu concluded that if the Devil God was gone, there was no longer a need for a god, and prepared to perish with him. However, Tantai Jin, in his final act, used his heart-protecting scale to propel Li Susu out of the collapsing Way. He then crushed the evil bone, perishing along with the All-in-Distress Way and restoring peace to the realms. Li Susu awoke in the royal tomb of the Jing Kingdom.
Using her divine power, she witnessed a past vision: Tantai Jin, after becoming the Devil God, had visited this very tomb. He wore her favorite white clothes, carved a tombstone for himself in the guise of his wife, Ye Xiwu, and created an illusion of her to bid himself a final farewell. In the vision, Tantai Jin declared his love, professing that his affection was solely for her.
He swore an oath that he would stay with her and see all the world's beauty together, and if he broke his promise, his soul would perish with his body. Realizing Tantai Jin had once again deceived her about his true intentions and ultimate sacrifice, Li Susu wept uncontrollably. Five centuries later, the world was at peace, with mortals, gods, and demons coexisting harmoniously. Li Susu traveled the mortal realm with her daughter, arriving at the Mohe River.
There, she reflected on her memories with Tantai Jin and recounted the tale of the Mohe River Princess Sang Jiu and the God of War Ming Ye to her daughter, pondering how to prove that love and hate truly existed once everything eventually perishes.
