The Psychologist Episode 17 Recap
> The Psychologist Recap
He Dun, holding a puzzle, explains to Professor Ji Mingcong her research into treating bipolar disorder, also known as the "disease of genii." She suggests using non-medicine cognitive intervention, specifically cued recall training, where objective clues from close contacts like lovers, family, or friends who shared precious memories can help patients reconstruct lost memories, thereby restoring their free memory function. Professor Ji Mingcong cautions that among these contacts, there might be individuals who have harmed the patient.
Such emotional stimulation could re-endanger the patient, risking not just memory loss but their very life. Seeing He Dun's disappointment, he encourages her to continue her research, reminding her that both she and others are waiting for her hypothesis to be proven. He then advises her to go home and rest, as staying up late is bad for her skin.
He Dun playfully retorts that his tea has made her too energetic to sleep and she needs to prepare for her radio program. As she leaves, Professor Ji Mingcong warns her not to be superficial in her research. Tang Lili swiftly settles into her new role at Mr. Fang's company, demonstrating remarkable efficiency by organizing tasks and giving precise instructions to her team, including Zhang, Kevin, and Cindy.
She even meticulously corrects a request drafted by Qian, pointing out specific punctuation and numbering errors crucial for formal documents. While some colleagues gossip about her past and how she left her previous job, questioning whether her earlier exoneration was true, Tang Lili remains focused. Mr. Fang expresses his admiration for her speed and tells her that all future documents will pass through her first. He offers his support, assuring her she has nothing to worry about.
Lili, however, reminds him to refrain from flirting during work hours. At the radio station, Qian Kaiyi poses for the upcoming poster, with colleagues praising his potential as an actor. When He Dun arrives, a colleague, Dong, takes the photos, explaining they're doing it themselves due to budget constraints. He Dun expresses being less nervous with an acquaintance behind the camera, which Qian Kaiyi finds amusing, as he didn't expect her to get nervous.
As the shoot progresses, the photographer instructs them to get closer and more intimate. He Dun feels awkward and a bit embarrassed by the proximity, recalling a past moment with Qian Kaiyi. At one point, a star-shaped toy drops from Qian Kaiyi's pocket, and he quickly performs a martial arts move, claiming his "money dropped" to cover it up. Despite the awkwardness, the photoshoot continues with them posing closely. Qian Kaiyi enjoys a meal at Uncle Qi's house.
Uncle Qi, despite his wife's chiding about drinking, shares a drink with Kaiyi. He urges Kaiyi to settle down and get married, even planning for "tiger babies" in the Year of Renyin if Kaiyi were to marry by year-end. Kaiyi admits he has a crush but the girl doesn't like him, attributing it to having "offended her when he was a child."
Uncle Qi, known for his stubbornness, encourages Kaiyi not to give up, comparing it to a peacock displaying its tail to attract a mate. He advises Kaiyi to persistently show his ability and confidence. When other family members arrive, they also join in, collectively cheering Kaiyi on and expressing confidence in his prospects, believing he and the girl would be a "heaven-made match" since both are single.
That night, Ye Jiahui attends a dinner party with his father and several psychologists. His father proudly introduces him, and guests compliment his father's youthful appearance and past achievements. Ye Jiahui correctly answers a guest's question about a line from a famous poem, interpreting it as advice to avoid complaining for longevity. As his father toasts, Ye Jiahui, who is driving, respectfully toasts with tea.
His father then discreetly inquires about the progress of their plan to "get back at" Ji Mingcong. Ye Jiahui states he has a plan, to which his father retorts that an obscure plan is as good as no plan, implying he wants concrete action. The next day, Tang Lili visits her mother, who is engrossed in a mahjong game with her friends. Instead of giving her mother money, Lili presents her with a contract for a 52. 5 sq.
m storefront at the neighborhood's south gate, a prime location, hoping it will give her mother something productive to do and a steady income. Her mother is surprised and overjoyed, though initially she questions if this is related to their previous argument where she threatened to disown Lili. Lili clarifies that a mother-daughter argument carries no real animosity. The other aunties at the mahjong table praise Lili for being a filial and capable daughter, envying her mother's good fortune.
Lili then sets her conditions: her mother must play less mahjong and personally manage the shop. Her mother eagerly agrees, but Lili, anticipating her mother's easy promises, adds that she will withhold living expenses if the shop isn't properly run. Her mother quickly capitulates, agreeing to all terms. Professor Ji Mingcong once again visits the mental hospital to see the red-dressed woman, who is seen gently swinging on a swing.
The "Night Talk to Your Heart" radio program, hosted by Qian Kaiyi and He Dun, airs again. They acknowledge the success of their previous "Saying No" segment, which encouraged listeners to decline uncomfortable requests. Qian Kaiyi reads a message from a listener named "Dream Has Its Sky," who struggled with refusing friends' invitations while studying for exams but eventually learned to prioritize her goals, trusting true friends would understand.
He Dun shares a message from "Big Tiger," a divorced father who refused his family's pressure to remarry, believing he alone could provide enough love and care for his child. Qian Kaiyi and He Dun offer supportive and sincere psychological advice, emphasizing that loving children aren't exclusive to two-parent households and that respecting one's own feelings is crucial in relationships. Later that evening, as Tang Lili steps out to do an errand, she finds Ye Jiahui waiting at her door.
He asks about He Dun, and Lili informs him that He Dun is at the radio station hosting her program. Lili then asks Ye Jiahui not to tell He Dun about "what happened today," acknowledging that he saw something. Ye Jiahui asks if she's afraid of He Dun knowing, and Lili replies she simply doesn't want to complicate things. He assures her he won't tell.
As the radio program approaches its end, Qian Kaiyi introduces a listener, "Sound of the Wind," who shared how his upbringing led to a people-pleasing personality, but he's now determined to learn to refuse. Qian Kaiyi then asks He Dun how individuals affected by their family of origin can achieve personal breakthroughs. He Dun explains that the family of origin is a vital concept in psychology, with a profound but not absolute influence.
Qian Kaiyi then asks if even a childhood joke can have a deep impact. He Dun affirms this, citing cognitive behavioral theory, which suggests that children's interpretations of the external world can shape their core beliefs about self-worth. As Qian Kaiyi subtly pushes a jar filled with meticulously folded paper stars towards He Dun, He Dun, though seemingly touched, maintains her professionalism and concludes the program, encouraging listeners to embrace courage and strength in their imperfections.
The following morning, Tang Lili prepares breakfast for He Dun. During their meal, Lili's phone constantly rings. He Dun comments on how busy Lili seems, observing her frequent outings. Lili explains her new job keeps her busy and mentions visiting her mother. Sensing He Dun's unspoken concern about her love life, Lili preemptively states that she is not dating, assuring He Dun, as an adult with her own judgment, that she has simply started a new job.
He Dun expresses her happiness for Lili if she were in a relationship, but also her worry. While preparing his script at the radio station, Qian Kaiyi is preoccupied with thoughts of He Dun and repeatedly rehearses confessing his feelings. When Qiao, a colleague, checks on him, he practices on her, describing a kind and beautiful girl who helps him, almost leading Qiao to believe he's talking about her.
Later, when He Dun arrives, Qian Kaiyi attempts to confess, recalling his uncle's advice to show strength, and attempting to display talent and vulnerability. He tries to offer her water, then recites a poem that subtly incorporates her name, and even feigns a stomachache, but each attempt is met with a professional or dismissive response from He Dun, who just wants to focus on work.
Noticing his unusual behavior, He Dun asks about the "scary phone call" he claimed to have received. Qian Kaiyi, insisting he was genuinely frightened, proposes a bet: if they call the number back and it turns out to be fake, he'll eat his poem; if real, she has to frame it. He Dun, eager to see him eat paper, encourages him to proceed.
He calls the number on speakerphone, identifying himself as from the radio station and asking if the woman had a story to share. The woman on the other end, however, denies ever calling them, claiming they have the wrong number. Despite Qian Kaiyi's insistence that they have a call record, she hangs up.
Defeated, Qian Kaiyi admits she really called, but the woman denied it, and He Dun prompts him to fulfill his part of the bet, watching as he reluctantly eats the paper poem. That night, Mo Yu receives a call from a colleague inviting him to a dinner party. He readily accepts, arriving at a room labeled "Surprise" where others are already drinking.
As He Dun takes out the trash late at night, she runs into Ye Jiahui, who is inquiring about Tang Lili, as she hasn't been home for several days. He Dun explains Lili is busy with her new job and hasn't returned, then hints that Lili might be with her new boyfriend. Ye Jiahui, surprised, asks if Lili hadn't told her. He Dun initially acts as if she's inadvertently revealed something, then quickly covers it up, claiming she remembered Lili had mentioned it before and proceeds to dispose of the trash.
