The Psychologist Episode 11 Recap
> The Psychologist Recap
During a previous Valentine's Day radio broadcast on FM99. 7, co-hosts Qian Kaiyi and Fang Yuxuan experienced a dramatic moment. Fang Yuxuan unexpectedly announced on air that Qian Kaiyi had confessed his love to her. Qian Kaiyi was furious, immediately stopping the recording and accusing her of "talking nonsense" and lacking "any sense of propriety." He demanded she explain the situation to the radio station, clarifying that he truly did not have feelings for her.
Fang Yuxuan suggested that affections could be cultivated over time, but Qian Kaiyi firmly stated his position, warning her that if she caused trouble again, either she or he would leave the station. He later tried to explain to He Dun that Fang Yuxuan's actions were simply an attempt to "get back at" him. One evening, He Dun informed Lili that their internet connection was down again and they needed a repairman.
To her surprise, Ye Jiahui was already there, fixing the connection, as Lili had already called him. After he successfully restored the internet, Ye Jiahui offered to install a home monitoring app on He Dun's phone, which she accepted, handing him her phone before going to prepare refreshments. While He Dun was away, Ye Jiahui covertly installed a listening device on her phone. Upon her return, He Dun thanked him for his help.
Ye Jiahui then proposed a date as a way for her to repay his kindness. He Dun initially tried to deflect the offer with humor, jokingly mentioning her expensive hourly rate, but seeing his earnestness, she eventually agreed to the date. Ye Jiahui confidently told her that a date with him would be far superior to one with "short-tempered people." Shortly after Ye Jiahui left, Qian Kaiyi called He Dun.
He reiterated that his past interaction with Fang Yuxuan was a misunderstanding and explained that the radio station wanted them to shoot a promotional poster for their popular show, "Night Talk to Your Heart." He described the poster as a way to give listeners a "visual impression" and a "3D stereoscopic effect" to enhance their connection with the hosts. He Dun, still upset, vaguely responded and abruptly ended the call.
Seeing He Dun's mood, Lili sarcastically asked if He Dun was "being jealous" or if Qian Kaiyi was "self-righteous." She then lauded Ye Jiahui as "meticulous and gentlemanly" for helping He Dun's family and fixing their internet without asking for anything. Lili then dropped a bombshell, revealing that Ye Jiahui had just asked He Dun on a date, much to He Dun's embarrassment.
Meanwhile, in a darkened room, Ye Jiahui was covertly listening to He Dun's apartment through the device he had installed on her phone. Later, Qian Kaiyi continued to text He Dun, sending her a photoshopped image of her with long hair. This image unexpectedly triggered a painful memory for He Dun, reminding her of cutting her own long hair after her younger brother, Junjun, died. Overwhelmed with anger and grief, she flung her phone aside.
Concerned by her silence, Qian Kaiyi came to her apartment late that night. Lili let him in, and they found He Dun in tears. Qian Kaiyi, shocked, repeatedly apologized. He Dun then revealed that "Junjun is my younger brother's name," and he "died when he was eight" from drowning. She implored Qian Kaiyi not to mention it again, stating that the event was in the past and unrelated to him.
She then shared a poignant metaphor about poking holes in the sand on a beach and observing how the waves would eventually smooth them out, finding solace in the transient nature of things. She concluded by stating that while she appreciated his comfort, she didn't believe in "empathy" in this world, suggesting that perhaps not being able to empathize "is a kind of luck instead."
Qian Kaiyi, still wanting to support her, promised to be there if she ever needed "a special listener." The following day, Jiang Jing and her mother arrived at He Dun's studio for a counseling session. He Dun put Jiang Jing at ease, assuring her that she could choose not to answer questions and to feel at home in the studio.
Jiang Jing admitted she couldn't relax at home and, with a hint of desperation, asked if He Dun could "cure" her, to which He Dun pledged to "choose the best way to cure you and stay with you." He Dun then initiated a card game to delve into Jiang Jing's subconscious, asking her to pick cards representing scenarios that triggered her "bulimia and making yourself vomit."
Jiang Jing selected a card, remarking "It's just like me," and confessed her struggle with overeating and fear of gaining weight, admitting "I can't control myself." After a relaxation exercise, He Dun asked about her ideal life, prompting Jiang Jing to express her desire for a "very free" existence. Further card selections led Jiang Jing to describe herself in relation to her mother as "always wrong and she's always right," lamenting that her mother "never let go of my hand."
She elaborated, describing her heart being "taken out" and "uncovered and shown to people," which she felt would make it "die." Meanwhile, Jiang Jing's mother, speaking to a friend, proudly recounted her daughter's achievements, unaware of the internal turmoil. A flashback revealed Jiang Jing's mother scolding her for playing drums and for her clothing choices, asserting, "You are a piece of flesh from my body. Whatever you do, you must tell me."
This controlling behavior profoundly impacted Jiang Jing, who felt like her "life has been chosen and arranged," like a "marionette." She hadn't discussed these feelings with her mother. Back at the radio station, Yuan advised Qian Kaiyi to increase interaction and create "love bubbles" with He Dun to boost listener engagement, emphasizing that modern audiences enjoy "being a shipper."
Qian Kaiyi, however, stressed the program's core value of "real skills" and "content quality" to provide "psychological comfort," aligning with He Dun's original vision for the show. Yuan then playfully claimed that He Dun "falls for me." In this conversation, Yuan suddenly remembered that He Dun was their high school classmate, the girl whose love song Qian Kaiyi had "publicly executed" in the broadcasting room. He apologized for his belated recognition.
Simultaneously, Lili, on a phone call with Qian Kaiyi, remained evasive about He Dun's whereabouts. Qian Kaiyi tried to explain the Fang Yuxuan situation again. Lili then cautioned him that his feelings for He Dun should be unwavering, warning that He Dun "is also an eligible bachelorette" and "could be taken any day." Alarmed, Qian Kaiyi realized He Dun might be with Ye Jiahui.
He Dun's date with Ye Jiahui took an unexpected turn when he led her to a nursing home, introducing it as the "first stop of our date" and the place where his "friends" resided. He Dun was surprised, wishing she had known to bring gifts. Ye Jiahui then revealed that Mrs. Yun, a resident, was like a grandmother to him, though they were "not blood relations."
He explained that growing up, with his parents often absent, Mrs. Yun had cared for him, and he frequently "went to her place to bum dinner," eventually preferring her company over returning home. He apologized for bringing her there without prior notice, then gently told He Dun that if she found the visit "boring," she could simply "put your hand on mine, and I'll get you out."
