Although Xiao Qing had previously harmed Bai Yaoyao, a spark of kindness still flickered within her. As fellow snake demons, Bai Yaoyao refused to let Xiao Qing's future be ruined. When Apothecary House disciples attempted to execute Xiao Qing, Bai Yaoyao intervened, stating she would take responsibility for Xiao Qing's actions and asking them to release her. The disciples, however, insisted on an eye for an eye. Bai Yaoyao single-handedly fought them off and saved Xiao Qing.

The strain from her spiritual marble having been removed caused Bai Yaoyao to collapse. Xu Xuan, despite his cold demeanor, was not heartless; he ordered his disciples to cease their attack and bring Bai Yaoyao back to the palace for treatment. Xiao Qing, bewildered, asked why Bai Yaoyao saved her.

Bai Yaoyao explained it was because Xiao Qing had shown a glimpse of conscience and willingness to save her during the Fiery Ground incident, but warned her not to repeat past mistakes. Under Xu Xuan's meticulous care, Bai Yaoyao quickly recovered.

In her semiconscious state, she often mistook Xu Xuan for Zi Xuan, sometimes wondering if time had rewound to a millennium ago when she was a small white snake and Zi Xuan was the noble, god-like disciple of the Green Emperor. Xiao Qing expected severe punishment from Bai Yaoyao but was surprised when Bai Yaoyao merely retrieved her spiritual marble and advised her to mend her ways.

Having no parents, siblings, or friends, Xiao Qing experienced a sense of family for the first time with Bai Yaoyao. She vowed to follow Bai Yaoyao forever and be her dear sister, even if it meant facing severe thunderous punishment or subduement. When Bai Yaoyao challenged her sincerity, Xiao Qing theatrically threatened to harm herself, confirming her unwavering resolve. Bai Yaoyao, initially taken aback, eventually forgave her, reminding her to never make the same mistakes again.

After her recovery, Bai Yaoyao frequently played the zither in the Apothecary House, her heart longing for Zi Xuan as her fingers moved across the strings, playing his old compositions. Xu Xuan, unfamiliar with the melodies, grew curious about this Zi Xuan, a person described by Bai Yaoyao as perfect in every way, whose magical prowess was far superior to his own.

He wondered about Zi Xuan’s identity and his relationship with Bai Yaoyao, a subtle hint of jealousy permeating the air. Bai Yaoyao, feeling tired, abruptly left. Xu Xuan was left to ponder the identity of Zi Xuan and his connection to Bai Yaoyao, captivated by her music. Meanwhile, the Green Emperor, observing through a mirror, learned that before Zi Xuan's complete disappearance, he had transformed his soul into barriers to seal the Flood Dragon.

Following the recent underground fire incident, the fire barrier had been broken. The Green Emperor feared this was no accident and could lead to another major catastrophe. Tao Tie, guided by the Demon Emperor's calculations, had successfully breached one of Zi Xuan’s barriers and planned to collaborate with the Demon Emperor to break the remaining ones, predicting a change in the Apothecary House's fate. Xu Xuan played chess with Bai Yaoyao, insisting on a clear winner.

Despite Xu Xuan giving her a three-piece handicap, Bai Yaoyao lost. Xu Xuan used her defeat to playfully mock Zi Xuan's chess teachings and, as a forfeit, flicked Bai Yaoyao's forehead. He then "demanded payment" for her medical care, telling her she had to stay and work in the Elixir Chamber, subtly trying to keep her close.

Bai Yaoyao found this cold and seemingly ruthless Xu Xuan amusing, noting the stark difference in personality despite his identical appearance to Zi Xuan. Xu Xuan's junior sister, Leng Ning, close to Xu Xuan and sharing everything with him, felt threatened by Bai Yaoyao's presence. She deliberately suggested finding a marriage match for Miss Bai, observing Xu Xuan's reaction. Xu Xuan, however, dismissed the idea, appearing indifferent, and suggested Leng Ning help Qing Feng instead.

Unbeknownst to them, Bai Yaoyao overheard this conversation from behind a rockery and, feeling disheartened, went for a walk by the river. By the rushing river, Bai Yaoyao encountered Qi Xiao and recognized him as Ling Chu. Qi Xiao, still pondering his master's words about Xiao Qing having a benefactor, realized Bai Yaoyao fit the description. He noted her lack of demonic aura despite being a snake demon.

Bai Yaoyao explained she had cultivated under the Sacred Lady of Mount Li and was not a cruel demon. Hearing Qi Xiao's doubts about Xiao Qing, Bai Yaoyao echoed Zi Xuan's sentiment: whether one is human or demon depends on their heart. These words deeply resonated with Qi Xiao, leaving him in thoughtful silence as he wondered where he had seen Bai Yaoyao before. Suddenly, a transmission talisman arrived, summoning Bai Yaoyao to her Crane Sister.

The Crane Sister, a cultivator under the Herb Deity, was injured while tending to a Wujilan flower. It was revealed that Tao Tie, with malevolent intentions, had smeared the flower with the poisonous sap from the Wujilan root, causing the Crane Sister's injury. He was orchestrating a grand scheme to unleash chaos upon the mortal world.

The Crane Sister also confided that she had used an illusion to arrange the meeting between Bai Yaoyao and Ling Chu, hoping he held clues about Zi Xuan. She speculated Ling Chu might be attempting to reverse fate, an impossible feat even for the Heavenly Emperor, and reminded Bai Yaoyao that they were all still bound by their destinies. Around the same time, Shopkeeper Wu, a long-term herb merchant collaborating with the Apothecary House, was found severely stabbed and unconscious.

Xu Xuan, already investigating the underground fire incident, immediately launched an inquiry into this brutal attack. Shopkeeper Wu, just before succumbing to his wounds, pleaded with Xu Xuan to save his wife and child. Xu Xuan, with his disciples, rushed to Shopkeeper Wu's village, only to find his wife and daughter surrounded by fearful villagers, who, driven by the rampant plague, were preparing to burn them.

Xu Xuan intervened, revealing that the villagers themselves were afflicted by the highly contagious disease. This virulent plague, secretly instigated by Tao Tie, had already claimed countless lives, and Xu Xuan was at a loss for a cure. He swore not to leave until the plague was eradicated and sent the orphaned daughter to the Apothecary House for safety. Bai Yaoyao offered her help and instructed Xiao Qing to investigate the source of the epidemic.

After days of sleepless efforts, Xu Xuan was exhausted. While he had managed to control the plague's spread, he hadn't found a cure. He sent Qing Feng to discover who the first infected person was and to expedite the delivery of herbs from the Apothecary House. Both Xu Xuan and Bai Yaoyao, independently investigating the plague, ventured into the depths of the forest to uncover the truth.

They suspected a connection to the stolen Wujilan root and the presence of demon aura, realizing a nefarious plot was at play. Meanwhile, Leng Ning, responsible for transporting vital medicinal herbs, was targeted by Tao Tie. Her horse bolted towards a valley, causing the precious herbs to plummet into a ravine. Leng Ning instructed her companion to inform Xu Xuan of the disaster while she went to retrieve the fallen herbs.
