Xiao Qing, thinking Bai Yaoyao had resolved the situation, brought Xu Xuan to the main hall of Jinshan Temple. Upon arrival, Xu Xuan quickly checked on Leng Ning, who tearfully claimed that Prince Zhao Yu had attempted to molest her and that Bai Yaoyao had accidentally killed him while trying to protect her. Bai Yaoyao, aghast at Leng Ning's duplicity, tried to explain that it wasn't true. Xu Xuan, however, remained composed and walked directly to examine Zhao Yu's body.

Soon after, Li Gongfu, the guards, Qi Xiao, and the women attending the Daughter's Festival arrived. The cheerful atmosphere quickly turned to panic as they discovered Zhao Yu's lifeless body. To protect Bai Yaoyao, Xu Xuan declared himself the murderer. Leng Ning was taken aback by his decisive action. Seeing Xu Xuan take the blame, Bai Yaoyao, in turn, shouted that Leng Ning was the real murderer.

Xu Xuan then presented his hand, stained with Zhao Yu's blood, insisting, "The murderer is me, but anyone else." He urged Li Gongfu to handle the case fairly. As Xu Xuan was led away, Bai Yaoyao collapsed, weeping, blaming herself for his predicament. Given Zhao Yu's noble status, his death caused an uproar in Lin'an City. The Provincial Governor held a special midnight court session to interrogate Xu Xuan, who had already pleaded guilty.

Qi Xiao, also brought to the court, quickly realized Xu Xuan was acting as a scapegoat. Initially, Qi Xiao, who harbored a dislike for Bai Yaoyao, intended to expose the truth. However, Xu Xuan, determined not to have his plan thwarted, swiftly jabbed Qi Xiao's mute acupoint with a silver needle, rendering him speechless. Xu Xuan then challenged the now silent Qi Xiao to speak, mocking his inability to do so.

Meanwhile, Xu Jiaorong was furious and heartbroken to learn that her brother had been arrested. Convinced of his innocence, she wanted to storm the magistrate's office, but Leng Ning and Bai Yaoyao intervened, stopping her. Xu Jiaorong suspected Xu Xuan was covering for someone, intensifying her dislike for Bai Yaoyao. Xiao Qing boldly accused Leng Ning of being the killer, but Leng Ning, feigning righteousness, offered to take the blame for Xu Xuan herself, dismissing Xiao Qing's words as slander.

Xu Jiaorong, who always favored Leng Ning, readily believed her. The Provincial Governor sentenced Xu Xuan to execution three days later. Bai Yaoyao vowed to uncover the truth and prevent Xu Xuan from taking the fall for anyone. She recalled Hong Xin's desperate plea to her just before Zhao Yu's death, believing Hong Xin must know crucial secrets.

Bai Yaoyao decided to spread rumors that she was Zhao Yu's killer, hoping to lure the prince's devoted lover, Hong Xin, out of hiding. Xiao Qing protested, fearing for Bai Yaoyao's safety as she currently had no powers. Within the Apothecary House, disciples of Duan Yang School, incensed by Xu Xuan's death sentence, prepared to break him out of jail.

Disciples from Ming Jue School attempted to stop them, leading to a tense confrontation where they hurled insults and accusations of cowardice and recklessness at each other. Leng Ning intervened, telling them to put away their weapons and assuring them that Xu Xuan would be fine, as Bai Yaoyao would save him. Back with Qi Xiao, Xiao Qing continued to taunt him about his muteness, implying he might remain mute for life if Xu Xuan was executed.

She then proposed a plan: Qi Xiao should go to Mount Li to help Bai Yaoyao regain her powers, while Xiao Qing would stay in Lin'an to protect Bai Yaoyao and assist in Xu Xuan's rescue. Qi Xiao silently agreed. Xiao Qing warned him to be careful and to fulfill his promise. Later, Zhao Wangfei, Zhao Yu's mother, summoned Xu Xuan.

She believed in his kind heart as a physician, especially since he had previously saved her life when she was gravely ill. She pressed him to reveal the truth about her son's death, but Xu Xuan maintained his confession. His only request was to see Leng Ning before his execution, not Bai Yaoyao. This deeply saddened Bai Yaoyao, making her feel that Xu Xuan did not trust her.

During their meeting in prison, Xu Xuan revealed the true sequence of events to Leng Ning. He explained that while examining Zhao Yu's body, he discovered a tiny, precise wound to the heart, indicating the killer possessed medical knowledge. He also found a bloody hairpin, a type Bai Yaoyao rarely wore but Leng Ning often favored. Her nervous demeanor that day, coupled with the missing hairpin, confirmed his suspicions.

Xu Xuan confessed that he knew the truth the moment he entered the hall but chose to take the blame. He explained that by sacrificing himself, he was repaying the Apothecary House for taking him and his sister in as children, thus clearing his debt and severing all ties with them, and by extension, with Leng Ning. Leng Ning, heartbroken, admitted to killing Zhao Yu in self-defense, claiming the prince had intended her harm.

She bitterly accused Xu Xuan and Bai Yaoyao of driving her to this act, to which Xu Xuan countered that it was her own choices that led her there. He clarified that he never suspected Bai Yaoyao and had always trusted her. As he bid her farewell, he asked her to protect the Apothecary House.

In the celestial realm, a celestial crane inadvertently learned Xu Xuan's (Zi Xuan's reincarnation) fate from the Arbiter of Fate and conveyed this information to Bai Yaoyao. Xu Xuan, still bearing the "Fate of Seven Prowesses," was destined to be alone and childless in this mortal life, though his connection to the Apothecary House indicated he could still return to the Empyrean Heaven as a deity. The Green Emperor and White Emperor discussed the matter.

They recalled how the Heavenly Emperor had reincarnated Zi Xuan and Ling Chu (Qi Xiao's previous incarnation) to prevent their powerful fates from causing chaos in the mortal world. Fearing that Bai Yaoyao's strong-willed nature would lead her to defy heaven's will and attempt to alter Xu Xuan's fate, potentially endangering both of them, the Green Emperor sought the White Emperor's aid.

They agreed that Qi Xiao, being Ling Chu's reincarnation, could earn merit by helping Zi Xuan, and thus devised a plan for Qi Xiao to separate Xu Xuan and Bai Yaoyao, allowing destiny to unfold naturally. Qi Xiao, upon reaching Mount Li, had his muteness cured by the celestial crane.

The crane entrusted him with a White Moon Flower, hoping Bai Yaoyao could use it to save Xu Xuan's life, but cautioned Qi Xiao not to let Bai Yaoyao know its origins. Back in the mortal realm, with Xu Xuan's execution drawing near and Hong Xin still missing, Bai Yaoyao suspected deliberate sabotage was preventing her from uncovering the truth.

Despite Xiao Qing's offer to break Xu Xuan out of jail, Bai Yaoyao insisted on visiting him herself, emphasizing the need for discretion to avoid exacerbating his charges. She lamented Qi Xiao's continued absence, realizing they couldn't wait for him any longer.
