Jian Bing and Sheng Yang were having dinner when Jian Bing’s ex-husband, Xue Yiming, arrived to fix her water pipe. Sheng Yang, fearing misunderstanding and trouble for Jian Bing, quickly picked up his bag and utensils and hid. Jian Bing tried to turn her ex-husband away, claiming the pipe was already fixed. However, he suspected someone was inside and, under the pretext of checking a swaying pendant light in the kitchen, pushed past her objections and entered the apartment.
He curiously searched various rooms, even checking the bathroom tap, but found nothing amiss. Not satisfied, he lingered, offering to stay and keep Jian Bing company, but she impatiently sent him away. Once he was gone, Jian Bing called Sheng Yang out from his hiding spot, and they resumed their dinner. Meanwhile, Luo Meijuan and Sheng Xiangqian were engaged in a cold war at home, neither willing to yield.
Sheng Xiangqian ended up sleeping on the living room sofa that night. After dinner, Sheng Yang thoughtfully washed all the dishes and tidied up the kitchen. Unwilling to return home and face his parents' ongoing conflict, he asked Jian Bing if he could stay a little longer.
He claimed his facial injury would raise too many questions from his parents, potentially exposing that he had fought someone at work and might lose his job, so he wanted to wait until they were asleep before sneaking back. After careful consideration and Sheng Yang's earnest plea not to "leave a friend in need," Jian Bing reluctantly agreed, allowing him to stay on her living room sofa. Sheng Yang then opened his laptop to work overtime, organizing copywriting.
Jian Bing also pulled an all-nighter, revising a proposal. She worked until very late, eventually noticing Sheng Yang had fallen asleep on the sofa, and gently covered him with a blanket. That night, both Luo Meijuan and Sheng Xiangqian tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Sheng Xiangqian finally turned on the TV, which greatly irritated Luo Meijuan. She deliberately made noise in the bedroom to protest, prompting Sheng Xiangqian to turn off the TV.
The next morning, Jian Bing woke up to find Sheng Yang had already left for work. He had, however, prepared a thoughtful breakfast for her, which warmed her heart. Sheng Yang’s absence all night worried Sheng Xiangqian, who asked Luo Meijuan to call their son. She ignored him and instead returned his salary card, declaring that from now on, they would live financially separate lives. Sheng Xiangqian tried desperately to appease her, but she remained unmoved.
Sheng Yang, having anticipated being fired, went to Mr. Yu early that morning to plead his case. He requested to stay long enough to complete the three projects he was currently managing, believing it would provide closure for himself and minimize losses for the company. He also earnestly asked Mr. Yu to give Song Chen a chance to finish his own projects, explaining that Song Chen had intervened in the fight because of him.
Moved by Sheng Yang’s sincerity, Mr. Yu decided to let both of them remain at the company. Wang Youde, who had been injured during the incident, strongly protested, but Mr. Yu advised him to take some time off to rest instead. When Sheng Xiangqian went to work, his colleague Qiao inquired if he and Luo Meijuan had reconciled.
Sheng Xiangqian poured out his frustrations, and Qiao speculated that Luo Meijuan might have been upset by someone at a recent classmate reunion. At the supermarket, Luo Meijuan vented to her colleague, Li, expressing her sadness that despite a lifetime of frugality, she felt she had nothing to show for it. In a fit of pique, she went on a shopping spree, maxing out her bank card. Li arrived just in time to help her pay the bill.
Luo Meijuan soon began to regret her extravagant purchases, and Li, seeing her distress, gently advised her to be kinder to herself. Sheng Xiangqian later visited the supermarket and, from a distance, observed Luo Meijuan confiding in Li, who was offering comfort and patted her hand. Sheng Xiangqian secretly took a photo of the scene. When Luo Meijuan asked Li for help returning the items, Sheng Xiangqian quickly slipped away.
Sheng Yang returned home to find his parents still in a bitter standoff. Sheng Xiangqian accused Luo Meijuan of having an affair, producing the photo as proof. Fueled by anger, Luo Meijuan declared she would divorce Sheng Xiangqian. Despite Sheng Yang's desperate attempts to mediate, their argument escalated. Luo Meijuan turned her fury on Sheng Yang, calling him a "pot-stirrer," which provoked Sheng Xiangqian into again threatening divorce.
