My Mowgli Boy Episode 42 Recap
> My Mowgli Boy Recap
Friends enthusiastically helped Ling Xi move into her old house, where her father and Wen Yu had officially settled. That evening, everyone gathered for a hotpot dinner, sharing laughter and reminiscing about the past. Mr. Ling expressed his gratitude for their help, and Ling Xi, though having lost many material possessions, felt confident about embarking on a new chapter.
Mowgli, noting the growing number of residents, jokingly suggested that Lu Ziyue and Zheng Li should buy more rooms to turn the building into a school dorm. Lu Ziyue remarked he couldn't afford it, while Tang Cheng also commented on a new tenant, appreciating the quiet and the rent she received. Lu Ziyue then surprised Tang Cheng by giving her all the money he earned from teaching and other cases, which deeply touched her.
Wen Yu observed the young people, happy to see them laughing, noting that being around them made her feel spirited and young again. During the dinner, Zheng Li spoke with Mr. Ling, sincerely apologizing for his father's actions. He felt a strong sense of responsibility for not having discovered and prevented his father's wrongdoings sooner. Mr. Ling, however, did not blame him.
Zheng Li affirmed that he could not condone his father's behavior and would stand by Mr. Ling, never returning to his father's side. With Wharf closing, Zheng Li announced his plan to take a break before starting a new venture. Ling Xi and her father then presented him with a start-up fund.
Zheng Li initially tried to decline, stating he hadn't resigned, but Ling Xi insisted it was compensation and a fund from a predecessor, playfully ensuring he took it, leading to lighthearted banter. Living with her father and Wen Yu brought a newfound order to Ling Xi's life, which she initially found difficult to adjust to.
She complained to Mowgli, speaking from her rooftop to his across the way, about the constant tension and strict rules, such as covering electronics, conserving electricity, and putting everything back in its place. Mowgli teased her about finally living with parents. Ling Xi admitted there were upsides, like not having to think about anything, but also found the situation contradictory.
Mowgli, feeling superfluous at Tang Cheng's place with her and Lu Ziyue dating, and Zheng Li and Bai Yiling packing, empathized. Ling Xi then shared her desire to become a "snack superhero" to punish evil and teach ethics to those who had wronged her father, expressing his deep hurt. Mowgli fully supported her. Ling Xi then realized their living arrangement meant they were now in a "long-distance" relationship.
She playfully commanded him to stay with her until dawn, which he affectionately agreed to, though he advised her to get some sleep for her "big plan" the next day. The next day, Mr. Ling, dressed impeccably, went to Wharf with Ling Xi, Wen Yu, and their friends to formally announce its closure. He apologized to the employees for not managing the company well and distributed compensation, promising to rehire them if he started a new venture.
Many employees were visibly emotional, saddened by the company's end, and expressed hope to work for him again. As the Wharf signboard was taken down, Feng Yu Media's plaque was brought in to be installed, revealing the new owner. Zheng Li's father appeared, claiming he only wanted Wharf to continue in a different way. Ling Xi, already angry, promptly led her father away. Just then, Ling Yu arrived, his demeanor arrogant, sarcastically asking why everyone was leaving.
He then instructed the workers to hang the Feng Yu sign even higher. Wen Yu approached Ling Yu, scolding him for opposing his father and asking what he had been doing. Ling Yu retorted that his actions were for his own benefit, implying that his father had always intended to hand the company over to him, and now he had simply taken what was his.
He then suggested Wen Yu move out to live with him, citing Mr. Ling's sale of their home to pay debts, and promising they would no longer have to rely on others. Wen Yu desperately tried to persuade him to come home, holding his hand, but Ling Yu coldly pushed her away, declaring himself Mr. Ling's adversary. In a fit of anger and frustration, Wen Yu slapped him.
Ling Yu reacted with shock, questioning how she could hit her own son for an "outsider." Mr. Ling cautioned him that hurtful words cannot be unsaid. Ling Yu, however, stated that everything he said was sincere, asserting he had never been himself since joining the Ling family and had always had to grovel for his stepfather's attention.
He recounted being thrown out for using company money, having to repay high-interest loans on his own, and now, finally, feeling happy for having personally kicked Mr. Ling out and taken over the company. He wished he and his mother had never joined the Ling family. Mr. Ling, deeply hurt, asked if Ling Yu had ever considered him a father. Ling Yu cruelly responded, "Never. My dad is long dead."
Ling Xi fiercely defended her father, accusing Ling Yu of being ungrateful and twisted. A flashback revealed Mr. Ling prioritizing Ling Yu's studies, sending Ling Xi away, telling Ling Xi to share her father with Ling Yu, and even instructing her to give her own birthday gift to Ling Yu and claim it was hers. Back in the present, Ling Xi further chastised Ling Yu, demanding an apology.
Ling Yu shoved her, declaring that he didn't care about being without the support of followers as long as he won in the present. Mowgli tried to intervene, warning Ling Yu about the consequences of his actions. Ling Xi, her teeth gritted, vowed that she would one day restore the Wharf sign for her father. She then led her father and friends away, with Zheng Li following them.
Ling Yu remained, once again instructing the workers to hang the sign higher. Later, in the office, Ling Yu complained about Mr. Ling's actions. Zheng Li's father, present in the room, cautioned Ling Yu against being too ruthless, reminding him that a cornered animal is a dangerous enemy and that one shouldn't leave yourself no room to maneuver. Ling Yu mockingly called him charitable and expressed a desire to be his enemy.
Zheng Li's father then brought up Ling Yu's high-interest loans, which he claimed to have paid off, and asked Ling Yu to return "his things"—referring to a crucial camera. Ling Yu, however, demanded 60% of the company's shares in exchange for the camera, which he explained Dong Hai had previously kept, but was now in his (Ling Yu's) possession, thus giving Ling Yu leverage over Zheng Li's father.
Zheng Li's father agreed to the share transfer, and they discussed future expansion into other industries, a move Mr. Ling had always opposed. Ling Yu then received a phone call from his biological father, Dong Hai, who reported that their home had been ransacked. Dong Hai suspected Zheng Li's father, but Ling Yu remained calm on the phone.
Zheng Li's father, having overheard part of the conversation, then contacted his own people, instructing them to keep a close watch on Ling Xi and Mowgli and retrieve the camera no matter what. Back at Ling Xi's home, Wen Yu was visibly distraught, her mind preoccupied with Ling Yu. Ling Xi and Mowgli tried to console her. During breakfast, Wen Yu was so distracted that she mistakenly poured soy sauce into her tea instead of milk, highlighting her anxiety.
Mr. Ling intervened, telling them to drop the act, acknowledging Ling Yu's stubborn nature and admitting his own strictness might have pushed him away. He expressed hope that Ling Yu would come to his senses and return. Just then, the doorbell rang. Ling Yu had returned to retrieve his belongings. Mr. Ling kindly invited him to join them for breakfast, but Ling Yu declined and asked for his things.
As he was leaving, Wen Yu desperately pleaded with him to stay, apologizing for her past pressures and recalling their simpler, happier life together when they first arrived from the countryside. Ling Yu, however, voiced his lingering pain, saying he had always yearned for parental comfort during thunderstorms but never received it, and now felt homeless. Wen Yu, heartbroken, warned him that if he stepped out that door, he would no longer be her son.
Ignoring her plea, Ling Yu walked out. Witnessing Wen Yu's despair, Ling Xi quickly decided they all needed a change of scenery. She insisted they go out to unwind, reminding Wen Yu that where there's a will, there's a way for both the company's return and Ling Yu's reconciliation, and that they should be cheerful rather than anxious. Mowgli added that while life throws challenges, they must be better than others in facing those challenges.
The four of them—Ling Xi, Mr. Ling, Wen Yu, and Mowgli—then went on an outing. They engaged in an environmental activity, voluntarily cutting down excess reeds that could pollute the water and inhibit new growth. Mowgli documented their efforts with a video camera. Unbeknownst to them, in his haste to leave, Ling Yu had accidentally left his crucial camera behind at Ling Xi's home.
Later, Ling Yu and Dong Hai frantically searched his luggage for the camera, only to find it missing. Ling Yu, enraged, called Dong Hai stupid, leading to Dong Hai angrily smashing a stack of CDs. Ling Xi, hoping to provoke Ling Yu, posted a group photo of them on social media. Ling Yu saw the picture and, consumed by anger, noticed Mowgli holding his camera. Later, Ling Xi thanked Mowgli for helping to cheer up Wen Yu.
She confided in him that she deliberately maintained a cheerful facade to shield her parents from external pressures. Mowgli asked if she wasn't afraid of not getting Wharf back or Ling Yu not reconciling. Ling Xi responded that having experienced the loss of her career and family, she had developed immunity to the same kind of suffering. She emphasized that with Mowgli by her side, she felt stronger.
Mowgli playfully teased her about her confidence, while Ling Xi, in turn, called him her "little wolf," saying he was in her control because she was beautiful. Mr. Ling and Wen Yu joined them, and Ling Xi continued to express her affection for Wen Yu. Wen Yu reminisced about the comforting scent of her own mother from childhood. Ling Xi then touchingly asked Wen Yu to consider her as a daughter and promised to take good care of her, bringing tears to Wen Yu's eyes.
