Zheng Li, having just been pushed into a swimming pool by Bai Yiling, returns to his hotel room to change. Bai Yiling accompanies him. They believe they have momentarily escaped Ms. Chen, but she soon arrives at their door, claiming to deliver a contract and making overtures toward Zheng Li. Zheng Li quickly instructs Bai Yiling to hide.

Ms. Chen, noticing Zheng Li's flushed face, offers to help him if he's unwell and suggests he assist her in applying body lotion, implying a desire to deepen their relationship. To thwart Ms. Chen's advances, Bai Yiling emerges from the room, wrapped in a pink bathrobe, pretending to be intimately involved with Zheng Li. She apologizes to Ms. Chen for not knowing she was there, which clearly surprises and embarrasses Ms. Chen. Ms. Chen quickly makes her excuses and leaves.

Afterward, Zheng Li praises Bai Yiling, likening her to "a lamb defeating a big wild wolf" and asking if she would have performed such a bold act for anyone else. Bai Yiling assures him she "of course not" would have, only for him because he is a gentleman. Meanwhile, Tang Cheng is summoned to her boss, Mr. Hou's, office for having the highest complaint rate this month.

Mr. Hou, a close friend of her father, chastises her for her casual attitude and for offending clients. Tang Cheng defends herself, arguing that her high win rate offsets her complaints and that customers seeking superior service should visit Haidilao. Mr. Hou reminds her that the firm's reputation, not her individual probity, attracts clients, and he is incensed by her flippant offer to write a self-criticism from one of her "ten templates."

As punishment, Mr. Hou orders her to suspend all current work and "have further study" at Puhua University to cultivate patience, even if it means staying for a year without pay. Tang Cheng protests, mentioning a large case she has pending, but Mr. Hou remains firm, handing her a letter of introduction and stating she will be supervised until she is deemed qualified.

Tang Cheng, frustrated by the unpaid "further study" which she compares to working in "illegal coal kilns," reluctantly accepts the mandate because she needs to support her parents' conservation efforts. She calls her parents to confirm their funds for the White Bird Lake project and advises them against seeking too much excitement at their age.

Tang Cheng arrives at Puhua University for her mandated classes, where she is dismayed to find Lu Ziyue is the lecturer, giving her an "ominous premonition." Lu Ziyue instructs her to sit at the back, which Tang Cheng silently resents as him "putting on airs." She bribes a nearby classmate with nuts to wake her when class ends and then promptly falls asleep. When she awakens, the classroom is empty, and her nuts are gone, signaling her classmate's "betrayal."

Lu Ziyue then congratulates the student for "drawing a demarcation line with those who come from outside without clear identity and behave badly." Tang Cheng confronts Lu Ziyue, attempting to charm him into signing her attendance certificate and arguing he knows her professional capabilities. Lu Ziyue, however, insists she must complete a full week of classes, adhering to Mr. Hou's "special care" instructions.

Tang Cheng pleads about her urgent legal cases and clients "in hot water," but Lu Ziyue maintains that consolidating her legal foundation is more important for her long-term development. When he adamantly refuses, Tang Cheng alludes to their past "stories" to embarrass him. Lu Ziyue quickly covers her mouth to silence her and makes a hasty retreat. Undeterred, Tang Cheng vows to persist until she gets her signature.

Ling Xi treats Mowgli with unusual kindness during their "couple's pajamas" photoshoot, surprising her staff, who gossip about her sudden change in demeanor and Mowgli's "proud and disagreeable" attitude. Mowgli shares details about his life, mentioning "hunting" and "having a forest," leading the staff to humorously speculate that he is a "silver-spoon kid" from a "big family" with "special hobbies" and a "mysterious life experience." Ling Xi intervenes to stop their gossip.

Later, while confirming a custom hazelnut latte order for Mowgli, Ling Xi learns that Zheng the Troll is on a business trip with Bai Yiling. She feigns indifference, asserting that Bai Yiling is merely a friend and that she and Zheng Li are the destined couple. Mowgli, overhearing this, questions Ling Xi about their own relationship, to which she curtly explains that their public displays were merely "emergency response to public relations," not genuine, leaving him visibly upset.

That evening, Ling Xi tries to cheer Mowgli up by inviting him to watch a movie and enjoy "Small Octopus Balls," but he refuses, stating he wants to sleep, despite the early hour. Ling Xi then calls Tang Cheng for company, but Tang Cheng, in a "bad mood" from her own troubles, also declines. Feeling profoundly lonely, Ling Xi drinks wine alone with a unicorn doll, lamenting that she has "no companion to get good and drunk with" her.

Determined to obtain Lu Ziyue's signature, Tang Cheng calls Zheng Li, who, believing it will help her and Lu Ziyue resolve a misunderstanding, provides her with Lu Ziyue's home address at No. 101, Building 2, 99 Huacheng Road. The following morning, Tang Cheng drives to the address but misses Lu Ziyue, who is already out jogging, partly due to parking restrictions. At his building, she is surprised to see mahjong-themed couplets adorning his door.

Soon after, Lu Ziyue's mother and a neighbor return from the remote Ximen Vegetable Market, discussing how visiting the market and playing mahjong invigorate their spirits. Tang Cheng's outstretched leg accidentally trips Lu's mother, sparking a heated argument. Lu's mother accuses Tang Cheng of a "crash-for-cash scam" and of acting like she's "airing pig trotters to make ham."

Tang Cheng retorts, calling her an "actress," asserting that the mother bears primary responsibility for the fall, and threatens to sue her for "groundless accusations and abuses," boasting her family "has plenty of law." The argument escalates with insults about "civic mind" and "flaunting seniority," culminating in Lu's mother threatening to rally a crowd from "Villain's Valley with fierce folk customs" to "wipe Tang Cheng out," a threat Tang Cheng dismisses.

Just as Lu Ziyue returns from his jog, Tang Cheng instantly changes her demeanor, becoming sweet and asking for his signature while offering him breakfast. However, Lu Ziyue remains steadfast in his refusal, insisting she complete a week of classes first, despite her pleas about her pending cases. Tang Cheng then tries a "beauty trick," offering to agree to date him if he signs.

Lu Ziyue is almost swayed by her charm, but a sudden sneeze from Tang Cheng breaks the romantic tension, reminding him of his principles. He quickly flees, regretting that the sneeze "ruins my whole life." During the outdoor portion of the couple's photoshoot, Mowgli remains uncooperative, giving stiff, unloving expressions. The photographer notes he looks more like Ling Xi's "tenant" than a partner, as his eyes lack "love."

Mowgli states he feels "nothing" and sees no need for lovers to be overly affectionate. Ling Xi, exasperated, drives to a new location, declaring that the "photo taking is on hold" because she has "more important things" to consider, reassuring her worried team that she will take responsibility. She tells Mowgli the shoot is canceled, acknowledging her initial "selfish motives" for using him, but states they are now "half friends" and she promises "never to lie to him again."

Mowgli, initially relieved, then expresses, "I don't think you are my half friend. You are my whole friend." As fans approach Ling Xi for photos, she quickly steps away to manage them, politely declining their request for Mowgli to join, citing "work." Her assistants, misinterpreting Ling Xi's mention of work as a cue to resume, eagerly set up their equipment. Ling Xi is annoyed by their actions, but Mowgli, seeing the setup, reluctantly agrees to continue shooting.

Ling Xi, confused by his sudden change of heart, presses him for an explanation, expressing her guilt and efforts to make amends. Mowgli finally reveals his true feelings, stating, "I'm not happy because you don't really like me." He explains he learned from an "emotional analysis book" that "people's eyes are the windows of their souls," but he can't read her true emotions through her eyes.
