Upon learning from Yuan Shuai that Du Lei harbors romantic feelings for her, Jiang Jun is stunned. She dismisses his words as a tactic to provoke her into leaving MH, and their argument leads to a tense cold war between them. Meanwhile, Jia Yuanji bombards Qiao Na with messages before her shift ends. When she leaves her office, she finds him asleep on a sofa outside, surrounded by various takeout meals.
Qiao Na, though pretending to be annoyed, expresses concern for his injured face. Jia Yuanji proudly claims the injury is a "man's badge of honor" from "doing boldly what is righteous," and even asks her to blow on it. Qiao Na scolds him for "idling around" as the GE successor. Jia Yuanji explains his brother granted him a "leave to pursue my wife-to-be" because he finished his work early and had been diligently studying finance and law to impress her.
Qiao Na, while not confirming any reciprocal feelings, agrees to take him out for dinner, refusing the takeout food he bought. The cold war between Jiang Jun and Yuan Shuai continues at home, marked by petty squabbles. Jiang Jun claims sole ownership of the bed and quilt, drawing a "border" down the middle with a stick, warning Yuan Shuai not to cross it or be deemed "a pig."
Yuan Shuai grudgingly accepts a blanket, but not before a brief struggle for the quilt. The next morning, both appear in the office wearing large sunglasses to hide their dark circles, a stark contrast to a visibly energized Jia Yuanji. Yuan Shuai complains to his colleagues about Jiang Jun's "border" on the bed and his sleepless night, while Jia Yuanji gushes about his date with Qiao Na, having shared midnight snacks and childhood memories.
An assistant informs Jia Yuanji that Yuan Shuai is not in the mood for love stories or congratulations today. Yuan Shuai receives a call from a diamond ring customization store, informing him that the ring he ordered is ready. He immediately heads to the store, picks up the beautiful diamond ring, and signs a "lifetime pledge." Later, he shows the ring to his dog, Wealth, confiding his plan to propose to Jiang Jun and asking for secrecy.
Jiang Jun contacts Shen Xin to ask about any unusual occurrences at work during her leave. Shen Xin recounts inadvertently overhearing Du Lei on a phone call. He was instructing someone to prepare Huanyu Group’s financial reports "in the same way as last year" and stated he would "handle the CSRC." This information resonates with Yuan Shuai's earlier suspicion that Shen Xin was fired because she uncovered one of Du Lei's secrets.
Shen Xin then reveals her struggles to find new employment due to the price leak rumors surrounding SKL. She asks Jiang Jun to write a recommendation letter to Yuan Shuai at GE, also hoping to clarify her non-involvement in the leak. Jiang Jun readily agrees to help. Du Lei receives a bouquet of flowers and a birthday card from a flower shop called "L Flower."
His smile fades when he spots the recommendation letter Jiang Jun wrote for Shen Xin on her desk. He asks Jiang Jun to stay after work. Later, in his office, Du Lei has prepared an elaborate dinner with a cake. Jiang Jun, realizing it's his birthday, apologizes for forgetting and, at his request, sings him "Happy Birthday." While Du Lei is getting wine, Yuan Shuai calls Jiang Jun, asking her to pick up his dog's food.
Hearing Du Lei's voice, Yuan Shuai grows furious and warns Jiang Jun not to drink before abruptly hanging up. Du Lei offers Jiang Jun juice instead of wine, and they toast to his birthday. Jiang Jun expresses gratitude for his long-standing mentorship, acknowledging his role in her professional growth. Du Lei then offers her special health benefits and flexible working hours.
Jiang Jun, however, chooses this moment to formally announce her intention to resign, citing personal reasons and needing more time for her family. Du Lei dismisses her explanations, asking if her resignation is because of Yuan Shuai and asserting that he can give her anything Yuan Shuai can. He refuses to accept her resignation and, feigning drunkenness, insists she drive him home.
On the drive home, Du Lei attempts to force a new necklace on Jiang Jun, claiming she must have disliked the watch he previously gave her. Distracted and uncomfortable, Jiang Jun pulls over. Du Lei confronts her about her resignation, accusing her of abandoning her career ambitions for Yuan Shuai. He brings up a tie she gave him two years prior, claiming he wore it ever since joining MH and interpreted it as a sign of her affection.
Jiang Jun clarifies it was merely a "gift for a teacher" and that she is planning to get married, making it impossible to reciprocate his feelings. She asks him to return the tie. Du Lei refuses to accept her rejection, passionately declares his love, and tries to forcefully kiss her. Just then, Yuan Shuai arrives and punches Du Lei. A fight breaks out, and during the struggle, Jiang Jun is accidentally knocked to the ground.
Yuan Shuai immediately rushes to her side, checks her for injuries, and tells Du Lei to get lost. He then helps Jiang Jun up, and they walk away, leaving a heartbroken Du Lei screaming on the ground. Back home, Jiang Jun seeks to appease an enraged Yuan Shuai. She expresses regret for her friendship with Du Lei ending so poorly, wishing she had been "more perceptive" to avoid the situation.
Yuan Shuai, still seething over her being alone with Du Lei, drinking (though she denies it), and driving him home, eventually softens when Jiang Jun shows affection and her injured arm. Seizing the opportunity, Jiang Jun reminds him about Shen Xin's upcoming interview at GE and asks him to submit her recommendation letter.
Yuan Shuai teases her about her sudden sweetness but then explains the potential risks: helping Shen Xin could be exploited by "someone with an ulterior motive" due to Jiang Jun being his girlfriend. Jiang Jun argues it’s a legitimate act and might be Shen Xin’s last chance. Yuan Shuai eventually agrees to help, and they formally reconcile. The following day, Jiang Jun reviews Huanyu Group's financial reports and notices some irregularities.
She focuses on a document dated October 12th, realizing it's the same day Shen Xin overheard Du Lei's suspicious phone call. She summons her subordinate, Yu, who confirms that while he assists with auxiliary materials, Du Lei has personally overseen all of Huanyu Group's quarterly financial reports for the past two years, including attending all meetings with the accounting firm. Highly suspicious, Jiang Jun dismisses Yu, instructing him to keep their conversation confidential. She continues to scrutinize the financial figures with a thoughtful expression.
