Go Ahead Episode 38 Recap
> Go Ahead Recap
When Ling Xiao dropped off Chen Ting and Qin Meiyang at the hotel, he asked when they were returning to Singapore and said he planned to book them Sunday tickets. Qin Meiyang was displeased, thinking Ling Xiao was in a hurry to send them off. Ling Xiao said nothing, but he did criticize Chen Ting for making Qin Meiyang pay He Ziqiu for the cake. Chen Ting merely said she didn’t want to burden He Ziqiu.
After returning home, He Ziqiu and Li Jianjian brought out a cake and surprised Ling Xiao. For the first time, Ling Xiao truly felt it was his birthday. Qi Mingyue told Tang Can about her parents’ argument. Tang Can was worried and advised her to stop avoiding the issue—either fight back or give in. Qi Mingyue, however, was still in avoidance mode and even pointed out that Tang Can ended up compromising too.
Tang Can responded that she hadn’t compromised with her parents, but with fate. Since working at the museum, life had become smoother, her parents’ relationship had improved, and she no longer felt conflicted or miserable. Li Haichao hadn’t been eating or sleeping well due to He Mei’s situation. Unable to suppress his doubts and curiosity, he went to the salon to find her. He had been thinking it over for days, finding He Mei’s behavior unreasonable.
She used to care deeply for He Ziqiu and wouldn’t have abandoned him just because of poverty. If she were selfish, she would’ve tried everything to reclaim He Ziqiu. Even for Dongdong, a child not her own, she had gone to great lengths—how could she not love her own son? Seeing how much Li Haichao wanted the truth, He Mei asked the staff to take Dongdong out so she could speak to him alone.
Meanwhile, He Ziqiu went to the hospital to visit his second uncle. As He Lan walked him out, she brought up He Mei. She told him not to hate He Mei—she was truly pitiful. Even though she didn’t care for He Ziqiu, it wasn’t because she didn’t want to, but because she couldn’t. After deciding to let Li Haichao raise He Ziqiu, He Lan visited her in prison and saw that her eyes were swollen like peaches from crying.
She had written many letters to He Ziqiu but never dared to send them. He Lan let something slip, and He Ziqiu was shocked to learn He Mei had been in prison. He pressed further and finally got the full story. Back then, He Mei was working at a beauty salon in Shenzhen. After one treatment, a customer had an allergic reaction and caused a scene.
He Mei stepped in to help a colleague but the customer accidentally fell, hit the back of her head, and died. He Mei was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to four years. The police asked her to notify her family, but she only dared to ask He Lan to come quietly and wrote a letter for her to take back, afraid He Lan might reveal the truth to Li Haichao.
She did it all for He Ziqiu—to ensure Li Haichao could raise him as his own. Li Haichao felt sad and said he never raised He Ziqiu for any repayment. Even if He Mei had told him the truth back then, he would have still raised the boy well. He knew that there was a missing piece in He Ziqiu’s heart that only He Mei could fill.
But He Mei stubbornly insisted that what was missing was already gone and couldn't be replaced. The only thing she could do now was not cause He Ziqiu any more trouble. Hearing this, Li Haichao suddenly realized where He Ziqiu’s stubborn personality came from. He advised He Mei that if she truly felt she owed him, she should make it up to him little by little, and that He Ziqiu had the right to know the truth.
Just as Li Haichao was about to call He Ziqiu, He Lan called him. After answering, Li Haichao told He Mei that He Ziqiu already knew everything. Worried about He Ziqiu, Li Haichao called Li Jianjian and Ling Xiao to tell them what had happened. The two immediately dropped what they were doing and went out to find him. Sitting beside him, they asked how he felt.
He Ziqiu said he felt much better after knowing he hadn’t been abandoned and that He Mei hadn’t remarried or had more children. But whether or not he forgave her didn’t really matter to him, since he had never hated her in the first place. That night, he had drinks and talked with Li Haichao at the noodle shop. When asked about his plans, He Ziqiu admitted he didn’t know.
He felt that doing anything now—saying something or taking action—would seem forced. He preferred to leave things as they were. Meanwhile, Li Jianjian and Ling Xiao cuddled at home, eating fruit and watching TV. Suddenly, Ling Heping came home, and they quickly sat up straight. Ling Heping asked about Ling Xiao’s condition and reminded him to take his medicine and go for a follow-up check when the medication was finished. After giving several nagging instructions, he went to shower.
Li Jianjian and Ling Xiao resumed watching TV. As they watched, Ling Xiao suddenly proposed to her. Caught off guard, Li Jianjian was stunned. Seeing her not respond, Ling Xiao dropped the subject. Jin Yuxiang called Qi Mingyue saying she wanted to come by to get the household registration page. Qi Mingyue, still out, made up excuses to stop her. But Jin Yuxiang ran into Tang Can downstairs and insisted on going up.
Qi Mingyue had no choice but to rush home. After Jin Yuxiang entered her room, Tang Can received a call from Qi Mingyue and reassured her not to worry—she had left the page at work, so Jin Yuxiang wouldn’t find it. While rummaging through the room, Jin Yuxiang discovered that Qi Mingyue wasn’t preparing for the civil service exam at all and even found a box of empty beer bottles under the bed.
She immediately called Qi Mingyue and told her to come back at once. Seeing Jin Yuxiang in such a foul mood, Tang Can quickly messaged Li Jianjian, asking her to wait for Qi Mingyue when she came back.
