Ling Xiao was deeply lacking in a sense of security. Unlike Li Jianjian, who could live well even on her own and had friends, Ling Xiao saw Li Jianjian as his lifeline. Without her, he couldn't survive. Li Jianjian couldn't quite understand. She asked Ling Xiao if there was anything he enjoyed doing apart from being with her. Ling Xiao didn’t answer.

This made Li Jianjian even more puzzled, so she asked what he did in Singapore besides taking care of Chen Ting and attending school. Ling Xiao said he spent all his time thinking about her, thinking about home, daydreaming about marrying her, having a child together, and being a happy family. He had even picked out a name for their child. Feeling heartbroken, Li Jianjian hugged Ling Xiao and asked if he was sick.

After returning home, Li Jianjian asked Qi Mingyue about Ling Xiao’s time in Singapore. Qi Mingyue said she only ever updated Ling Xiao on how Li Jianjian was doing and didn’t know much about what he was up to in Singapore. If Jianjian truly wanted to know, she should ask Ling Xiao directly. Li Jianjian said she was worried that Ling Xiao might have some psychological issues. But Qi Mingyue thought He Ziqiu had more psychological problems.

Ever since Li Jianjian chose Ling Xiao, He Ziqiu had been deeply discouraged. Just recently, when she bumped into him at the door, she noticed he reeked of alcohol, and business at the coffee shop hadn’t been good either. Feeling low, Li Jianjian called Li Haichao, hoping to talk, but didn’t know how to start the conversation. Sensing her mood, Li Haichao cracked a few jokes to cheer her up, making her smile and feel much better.

Li Jianjian thought about how Li Haichao had never remarried because of her and felt guilty. She asked if he truly never wanted to find a partner. But Li Haichao insisted he didn't—he thought it was great just living with Ling Heping. The two even agreed that once they were too old to manage, they’d go to a retirement home together. Li Jianjian didn’t want him to live in a nursing home.

Acting spoiled, she said she would live with him and take care of him when he got old. The next day at lunch, Li Jianjian waited for Ling Xiao to finish work and treated him to a meal. Ling Xiao was puzzled and asked if she had something to say.

Li Jianjian said she just wanted to eat with him, and as long as she had time, she would eat lunch with him and try to finish work early in the afternoon to pick him up. After the meal, Ling Xiao couldn’t help asking why she was suddenly being so kind. Turning her head with a smile, Li Jianjian jokingly said, “Just like you said, I feel sorry for you.”

She told him not to overthink things when he was alone and to use his intelligence in the right places. Hearing her concern made Ling Xiao feel increasingly happy. Li Jianjian told him to wait for her that evening so she could pick him up, but Ling Xiao said he had already made plans with Ling Heping to see a traditional Chinese doctor. Ling Heping used the excuse of feeling unwell to take Ling Xiao to the doctor.

Dr. Zhao took Ling Xiao’s pulse and said he had liver qi stagnation caused by high stress and recommended a visit to a psychiatrist. Not wanting Ling Xiao to overthink, Ling Heping reacted angrily, insisting Ling Xiao wasn’t sick, just had trouble sleeping. Dr. Zhao then prescribed some medicine to help regulate his condition. Ling Xiao didn’t rush to get the medicine—he stayed outside the office to eavesdrop on their conversation.

Ling Heping didn’t want to take him to the psychiatrist for fear it might damage Ling Xiao’s reputation. Though rough around the edges, Ling Heping had thought everything through carefully. After escorting Ling Xiao home, he reminded him that if he didn’t feel comfortable talking to him, he could talk to Li Haichao, He Ziqiu, or Li Jianjian. Whatever happened, he should never bottle things up inside.

That night, Li Jianjian sat at the doorway reading a book while listening for any sounds outside. As soon as she heard the door across the hall open, she pretended to take out the trash and “ran into” He Ziqiu by chance. She handed over her royalty payment, telling him to use it to pay off his credit card. “ Better to owe me than the bank,” she said.

But He Ziqiu refused, saying the thing he hated most was being pitied. That same day, Aunt Qian and Hongying, the woman who had gone on a blind date with Li Haichao, were playing mahjong at his noodle shop. When the server Xiao Zhu needed to use the restroom, she called on Li Haichao to take her place.

At the table, Aunt Qian asked if He Mei had met with him just to see He Ziqiu or if something happened between them. Li Haichao just smiled, saying He Mei had already remarried. Hearing this, Hongying was delighted and began openly expressing interest in Li Haichao. The aunties nearby were also trying to match them up.
