Following the tragic death of Su Li, Run Yu, consumed by grief, unleashed a powerful Water Tribe magic against the Heavenly Empress. The Water Immortal intervened, urging Run Yu to put an end to his vengeful actions for the sake of the myriad creatures of Dongting Lake, reminding him of his mother's legacy of kindness. Run Yu, still burning with fury, momentarily threatened the Heavenly Empress but eventually relented.
The Heavenly Empress then ordered the Water Immortal to kill Run Yu, but he countered by questioning her conscience after years of making enemies. She accused him of secretly sheltering Su Li, implying his complicity in her schemes, but the Water Immortal simply stated he would explain everything to the Heavenly Emperor. Later, Yan You presented Run Yu with Su Li's Luminous Pearl, which contained all her past memories and her heartfelt hopes for him.
As Run Yu witnessed these, he was overcome with profound sorrow, shedding silent tears. Kuang Lu and the little mud fish secretly observed him, seeing a figure as desolate and helpless as an abandoned child. The Water Immortal reported the events at Dongting Lake to the Heavenly Emperor, who harshly criticized him for sheltering Su Li in the first place and for getting entangled in such affairs.
The Water Immortal admitted he saved Su Li to prevent the suffering of his Water Tribe kin but claimed ignorance of her later misguided actions. He asserted that Su Li's crimes against the heavenly rules were merely a cycle of cause and effect, expressing his anger at the Heavenly Emperor's coldness and the Heavenly Empress's excessive ruthlessness. He reminded the Heavenly Emperor of Run Yu's true identity, urging him to handle the matter with care to avoid harming the innocent.
The Heavenly Emperor, however, saw the Water Immortal's mercy as the root of greater disaster and struggled with the dilemma of upholding justice while showing leniency. Enraged by Run Yu's rebellion, the Heavenly Empress recalled that Yan You had seized the Spirit-Vanishing Arrow, presuming it was intended to harm Xu Feng. She commanded Qi Yuan to retrieve the arrow and then to kill Jin Mi.
Upon learning that Qi Yuan had reunited with Liu Ying, the Heavenly Empress assured him that if he successfully eliminated Jin Mi, she would cure him of the Autopsy Wild Silkworms' poison and even consider blessing his union with Liu Ying. Qi Yuan gratefully accepted. Believing Liu Ying had returned to the Demon Realm, Qi Yuan was in despair when she suddenly appeared before him, questioning why he had come back. They shared an intimate night.
The next morning, as they reminisced about their time in the Demon Realm, Qi Yuan recounted how the Demon Lord had imprisoned him in the Yu Abyss for being an offspring of the Spirit-Vanishing Family, deeming him an ominous presence. He mentioned being saved by an unknown individual. Liu Ying, expressing her unwavering love, offered to relinquish her status as a Demon Princess to live a simple life with him in the Human Realm.
However, Qi Yuan was suddenly afflicted by the Autopsy Wild Silkworms' poison, forcing him to confess he could make no promises and to abruptly leave, apologizing to a distraught Liu Ying. Meanwhile, Xu Feng invited Jin Mi for a game of chess. During their game, he informed her of his imminent departure to lead the army against Liangguo.
Jin Mi, deeply concerned, subtly tried to dissuade him, but Xu Feng reassured her, promising to return safely, grant her a proper status, and marry her, ensuring no one could speak ill of her. After Xu Feng departed, Jin Mi coughed blood and collapsed, only to be secretly saved by Run Yu, who had been nearby. Although Run Yu knew she was destined to endure mortal hardships, he could not bear to see her suffer.
He vowed to find and punish those responsible for her poisoning. Jin Mi, however, expressed no desire for revenge, asking instead that Run Yu protect Xu Feng's safety. When Run Yu realized her deep affection for Xu Feng, she confessed her willingness to die for him, but for no one else. Run Yu tried to reassure her about Xu Feng's safety and provided her with something to ease her pain, internally vowing never to let go of her.
At the war camp, as Xu Feng strategized with his generals, Sui He unexpectedly arrived at the front lines, expressing her determination to share hardships with the soldiers and border civilians. Despite Xu Feng's initial attempts to send her away, she adamantly refused to leave. Reluctantly, he allowed her to stay, commanding his general Qin Tong to protect her. Sui He, well-versed in military strategies, offered insightful advice to the army, earning the admiration of the generals.
Xu Feng questioned her about the incident involving Yan You, to which Sui He angrily asserted she was under Yan You's puppet control and that her love for Xu Feng was well-known. She dramatically threatened to end her own life if he rejected her. Unbeknownst to them, the Southern King had learned of King Yi's (Xu Feng's) travel route and prepared an ambush at Anyuan Pass.
Spotting Sui He in King Yi's entourage during the ambush, the Southern King quickly ordered his troops to spare the princess but to kill everyone else in the party. In her residence, Jin Mi confronted Qiang Huo, asking if the poison she was suffering from was Qing Yue. Qiang Huo tearfully knelt and confessed to putting the colorless, odorless, and slow-acting poison in Jin Mi's tea.
She explained that she intended it to be a warning, hoping to force Jin Mi to leave, rather than a lethal dose. Jin Mi revealed that her unique body, having tasted countless herbs over the years, had accumulated various toxins. The Qing Yue, which could be either hot or cold in excess, had disrupted the delicate balance of these poisons, causing them to erupt with fatal consequences.
Jin Mi acknowledged that the Saint Doctors' Family rules were paramount and that her blossoming emotions had violated them, thus accepting her impending death. Despite Qiang Huo's desperate plea for her to escape and an offer of travel funds, Jin Mi refused, declaring that she would spend her remaining days living as Jin Mi, a woman who had experienced love, rather than merely the Saint Girl. She was willing to sacrifice her life for this chosen identity.
