> Legend of Zang Hai Recap

Zhao Bingwen ordered Gao Ming to find out from Zang Hai the whereabouts of the bronze fish, but Gao Ming had no success. Zhao Bingwen was worried that if too much time passed, Zang Hai would uncover the truth, so he decided to act first. Gao Ming didn’t want Zang Hai to be hurt and tried hard to delay, but Zhao Bingwen could no longer wait. Zang Hai sent someone to invite Zhao Bingwen to a banquet.

Zhao Bingwen instructed Shi Quan to begin the operation. Zhao Bingwen arrived at the banquet on time. Zang Hai had prepared a lavish spread. Gao Ming noticed that no one else was around. Zang Hai made an excuse about matching sixes and drawing sevens and left with Xiang Antu. Guan Feng and Shi Lei also went out for fun, and Gao Ming didn’t question it.

Zang Hai had specially prepared the dishes that his parents loved most when they were alive and confronted Zhao Bingwen face to face, accusing him of repaying kindness with enmity. Zang Hai was convinced that Zhao Bingwen was the third enemy. Zhao Bingwen remained calm in the face of Zang Hai’s accusations. Zang Hai had discovered that Zhao Bingwen, Zhuang Luyin, and Cao Jingxian were classmates at the Great Yong Academy.

Zhao Bingwen admitted that he had overlooked something and guessed that Xiang Antu and the others were lying in wait nearby. Xiang Antu, Shi Lei, and the others had no choice but to step out—tonight, they were going to assist Zang Hai in eliminating Zhao Bingwen. Zhao Bingwen admitted he was the third enemy. He had orchestrated the extermination of Zang Hai’s entire family, killed Cao Jingxian, and seized the Gui Seal and the bronze fish.

He also admitted to killing Shi Yiping, claiming it was all for the emperor. At that moment, the imperial guards arrived under the emperor’s orders to arrest Zang Hai, who had no choice but to surrender. The emperor dismissed all the guards—he wanted to speak to Zang Hai alone. Since ascending the throne, the emperor had lived in constant fear of being harmed. He never imagined Kuai Duo would betray him.

Zang Hai did his best to defend his father, Kuai Duo, explaining that she died for the greater good. The emperor forced Zang Hai to reveal the location of the bronze fish, promising not to implicate those around him. Zang Hai told him where it was hidden, and the emperor sent Sun Defang to retrieve it. Zang Hai urged the emperor to destroy the Gui Seal, warning that otherwise, it would bring disaster upon the people.

He also revealed that Zhao Bingwen was the third enemy. Unexpectedly, Shi Quan had already confessed to the emperor, revealing that he was Lu Fen, the adopted son of Cao Jingxian. He accused Zang Hai of hiding the bronze fish with malicious intent. The emperor believed him and had Zang Hai arrested. After making his report, Lu Fen was thrown in prison, where Zhao Bingwen soon came to silence him permanently.

The emperor ordered Sun Defang to summon Zhao Bingwen to the palace early the next morning. That night, the emperor tried using the three bronze fish to open a box and found the Gui Seal inside. Not long after, Zhao Bingwen came to the prison to gloat in front of Zang Hai. Only then did Zang Hai learn the emperor had met with misfortune.

Zhao Bingwen firmly accused Zang Hai of being the murderer and even arrested Sun Defang and Xue Zhao for failing to protect the emperor. Zhao Bingwen proudly boasted that he now possessed the Gui Seal and the bronze fish. Zang Hai saw Zhao Bingwen’s true face clearly. Zhao Bingwen no longer concealed his greed. Once he heard from Zang Hai that the Gui Seal was in the palace, he carefully laid out his plan.

He used Zang Hai’s desire for revenge to get him to steal the Gui Seal from the palace. Then he had Cao Jingxian snatch it and place it in Shi Yiping’s home, after which he had Shi Yiping killed. This led Zang Hai to mistakenly believe Shi Yiping was the third enemy. Zhao Bingwen then drove a wedge between the emperor and Zang Hai, forcing Zang Hai to hand over the last bronze fish.

In the end, Zhao Bingwen successfully obtained both the Gui Seal and the bronze fish. Zang Hai suspected that Zhao Bingwen’s feelings for Kuai Duo were false. Zhao Bingwen admitted that Kuai Duo had once defended him with integrity, but they had no written correspondence, and Kuai Duo never asked him for help. It was Zhuang Luyin who had written to inform him that Kuai Duo had found the Gui Seal in Dongxia and returned to the capital.

Zhao Bingwen rushed back and had Cao Jingxian mobilize the imperial guards to search the city for Kuai Duo. Unexpectedly, Kuai Duo entered the palace through a secret passage to meet the emperor. Zhao Bingwen ordered Zhuang Luyin to kill Kuai Duo’s entire family, then hypocritically submitted a petition to the emperor pleading for Kuai Duo. Zang Hai couldn’t understand how Zhao Bingwen managed to control both Zhuang Luyin and Cao Jingxian.

Zhao Bingwen recalled his days at the Great Yong Academy. Born in a remote border town, he had vowed since childhood to enter the court. He studied diligently and was admitted to the academy at the age of ten. Most of the students there were sons of powerful nobles. Because of his poor background, Zhao Bingwen was frequently bullied—they even wanted to cut off one of his fingers.

Zhuang Luyin and Cao Jingxian came to his aid, and the three were consequently ostracized. Zhao Bingwen, Zhuang Luyin, and Cao Jingxian joined forces to teach that noble bully a lesson, eventually pushing him into a river where he drowned. Cao Jingxian was suspected because of the scar on his face and was expelled from the academy. With no other option, he entered the palace and became a eunuch, eventually rising to become a chief eunuch.

Zhuang Luyin earned military honors and became a great general. Zhao Bingwen joined the cabinet and gained real power. The reason he used Zang Hai to find the Gui Seal was to fulfill his ambition of ruling the world. Now, with success just one step away, he was elated beyond words. Zang Hai scoffed at him with disdain. The imperial guards raided Zang Hai’s home, but it was empty—Xiang Antu and Feng Liu had long since escaped.

Young Master Eight had come secretly to check on them. Xiang Antu wanted to know what had happened to Zang Hai. Young Master Eight considered asking his father, Zhao Bingwen, but Xiang Antu was forced to reveal that Zang Hai had been harmed by her father, Zhao Bingwen.
