Legend of Zang Hai Episode 19 Recap
> Legend of Zang Hai Recap
Zang Hai and Zhuang Zhixing both harbored deep hatred over the deaths of their loved ones, and they formed an alliance. With his solid professional skills and resourcefulness, Zang Hai not only earned the trust of Zhuang Luyin but was also appointed as the Supervisor of the Imperial Astronomical Bureau. Zang Hai encouraged Zhuang Zhixing to earn merits on the battlefield so he could one day become the master of the Marquis' Manor.
After much persuasion, Zhuang Luyin finally agreed to let Zhuang Zhixing enlist. Zhuang Zhixing went to bid farewell to Zang Hai, but he wasn't home. He asked the servant to pass on his message to Zang Hai and departed according to Zang Hai's guidance. Xiang Antu confessed her feelings to Zang Hai, but he didn’t know how to respond. He promised to think it over.
He had feelings for Xiang Antu too, but with the murder of his parents and sister still unavenged, he couldn’t allow himself to indulge in romance. Xiang Antu waited by the window every day, hoping to learn if Zang Hai returned her feelings. She became love-stricken, and the Eighth Young Master couldn’t help teasing her about it.
Zang Hai went to Zhenlou to see Xiang Antu, but she, upset, refused to see him and sent Feng Liu to tell him to wait at Liutao Pavilion. Zhuang Zhixing didn’t want anyone to know he was Zhuang Luyin’s son, so he used the alias Shen Xiaoxing. Raised in privilege and luxury, he had never endured hardship before. Upon arriving at the military camp, he found it hard to adapt—dozens of soldiers shared one barrack, which he wasn’t used to.
Some disapproved of his pampered demeanor and mocked and humiliated him in various ways, even setting him up deliberately. Zhuang Zhixing endured his anger silently, but the bullying only worsened. Zang Hai waited patiently in Liutao Pavilion, drinking six pots of tea in a row, but Xiang Antu never appeared. Using official duties as an excuse, he left Zhenlou. Xiang Antu had dressed up carefully before going to meet him, only to discover he had already left.
Disappointed, she refused Feng Liu’s suggestion to chase after him and swore never to see Zang Hai again. Zang Hai had initially wanted to explain things to Xiang Antu—he simply couldn’t focus on romance for now. Xiang Antu standing him up suited his needs, as he could focus entirely on tracking down his third enemy. Zhuang Zhixing, mocked by his bunkmates, had nowhere to go and sat idly outside the camp.
Xiang Hong, the third squad leader, saw him and invited him into his tent to rest. The commanding officer assembled the soldiers for a lecture. In the back, a soldier named Zhan Hao secretly slipped a bug into Zhuang Zhixing’s collar. Zhuang Zhixing suffered from the bites and was publicly scolded by the officer. Though he tried to defend himself, he was punished with ten strikes. Enraged, he sought out Zhan Hao and beat him up.
Fortunately, Xiang Hong arrived in time to scold Zhan Hao. During the chaos, Xiang Hong was accidentally punched but still dragged Zhuang Zhixing away and tended to his wounds personally. Xiang Hong did his best to comfort Zhuang Zhixing, assuring him that he would grow stronger. Zhuang Zhixing was grateful.
Later, he overheard Xiang Hong talking with the soldiers and realized Xiang Hong had known all along that he was Zhuang Luyin’s second son, which was why he had helped him. Zhuang Zhixing was heartbroken—if he weren’t Zhuang Luyin’s son, Xiang Hong wouldn’t have cared. Xiang Hong told him not to dwell on it, but Zhuang Zhixing couldn’t let it go. Zhuang Zhixing wanted to leave the military. On the way out, he ran into Zang Hai.
Zang Hai reminded him that deserting the army was punishable by death. Zhuang Zhixing had grown disillusioned—if he weren’t Zhuang Luyin’s son, if his mother hadn’t been murdered, Zang Hai wouldn’t have approached him. He realized that the only person who had ever truly cared about him unconditionally was his deceased mother. Zang Hai reminded him not to forget his vow to avenge her, and Zhuang Zhixing, steeling his resolve, decided to return to the army.
Zang Hai removed all the ineffective officials in the Imperial Astronomical Bureau, leaving only Shi Quan and two others. He planned to recruit new, capable personnel. Shi Quan handed over Chu Huaiming’s belongings to Zang Hai. Before his death, Chu Huaiming had asked Shi Quan to help him find a rare coin to complete a set of "Zhenyou Tongbao" coins he intended to gift to Prince Yongrong—but he died still missing one “Zhesan Coin.
” Zang Hai suspected Prince Yongrong might be the third enemy but lacked concrete evidence. Gao Ming came up with a plan. Soon it would be time for regional officials to return to the capital to report their duties. Prince Yongrong loved festivities and hosted a banquet every three years for these officials, also inviting senior capital officials. Zang Hai hoped to use this event to get close to Prince Yongrong and investigate the regional officials.
However, he feared his rank was too low to be invited. He asked Gao Ming to help find the Zhesan Coin, intending to use the complete coin set as a ticket to the banquet. Gao Ming agreed readily. While wandering through the Inner Cabinet, Prince Yongrong overheard some officials discussing Zang Hai’s reform of the Imperial Astronomical Bureau and his efforts to impeach corrupt officials. Intrigued, he inquired further about Zang Hai.
Meanwhile, Gao Ming searched everywhere and finally found the Zhesan Coin on the black market—but Xiang Antu had bought it for five hundred taels. Gao Ming told Zang Hai to go ask her for it. Zang Hai considered selling his house to buy it back for a thousand taels, but Gao Ming refused and told him to apologize to Xiang Antu instead, believing she wouldn’t make things difficult. Zang Hai, however, didn’t want to bow to her.
Zhuang Zhixing threw himself into training with the other soldiers. Despite the hardship, he didn’t complain and quickly adapted to the camp's rigorous life. Xiang Antu, having heard Zang Hai sent Gao Ming to find ancient coins, intentionally bought the Zhesan Coin to make Zang Hai come to her. Zang Hai personally went to Zhenlou to see Xiang Antu and offered to pay double the price, even bringing his house and land deeds as collateral.
Curious, Xiang Antu asked why he needed the coin. Zang Hai admitted he wanted to use the full coin set to win favor with Prince Yongrong. Xiang Antu could tell Zang Hai had something weighing on his mind but didn’t press further. She read his palm again and used the opportunity to give him the Zhesan Coin, telling him to take back the house and land deeds. She made him owe her a favor.
