You Are My Glory Episode 18 Recap
> You Are My Glory Recap
Yu Tu and his team are diligently conducting X3-2 rover field tests in the Dunhuang desert. Every step of the testing process is meticulously executed, with precise monitoring of the remote telemetry subsystem, X-band transponder, and motion commands for autonomous barrier mode under specific solar zenith angles. The rover operates normally, and telemetry data is confirmed to be within expected parameters. A second test of the same driving cycle is then prepared with a different solar zenith angle.
During a break, some colleagues joke about gaining weight from eating too many noodles at the testing ground and suggest organizing weight management activities. They also discuss Guan Zai, whose surgery was successful, noting he is in good spirits and praising him as an intelligent, professional, and joyful "all-rounder" who makes the base less dull. Mr. Li encourages Yu Tu to join after-work activities like ping-pong, photography, and card games to unwind, but he declines.
Later, he joins some colleagues for stargazing using a large telescope brought by Mr. Li. A colleague aptly quotes a line about the "Jade Rabbit" (Yu Tu's namesake rover) being "the Rabbit who's seen the most stars," a sentiment that resonates with Yu Tu. He helps them pinpoint Mercury's location before excusing himself. Alone in his room, Yu Tu listens to old voice messages from Qiao Jingjing.
In one message, she reassures him that his past achievements are meaningful, and pursuing his dream is not a mistake, even if he considers a career change. Old chat messages also show Jingjing recommending a funny streamer and playfully calling Yu Tu a "technical streamer." She even asks him to bring her 'youtiao' for breakfast.
Mr. Zhou overhears one of Jingjing's voice messages, mistakenly thinking she is Yu Tu's current girlfriend, and wonders if she knows he's on a business trip in the desert. Yu Tu clarifies that these are old messages, leading Mr. Zhou to conclude that Yu Tu must miss her deeply. Later, during a communal shower after a sandstorm warning, colleagues joke about playing cards. Mr. Zhou playfully insists Yu Tu has a girlfriend, referring to Jingjing's voice message he overheard.
Colleagues are surprised, jokingly asking if he found a "sister" within the institute, but Yu Tu rushes them to finish showering, avoiding the question. During a subsequent navigation test, the rover malfunctions and deviates from its track. An urgent meeting is called, where Yu Tu realizes the navigation software's algorithm failed to account for varying sunlight incidence angles under natural lighting conditions, leading to miscalculations by the visual system.
This crucial insight is accepted as the probable cause, and the team immediately begins modifying parameters and updating the algorithm. Due to an impending sandstorm forecast, Mr. Li dismisses the team early. Yu Tu later receives a call from Guan Zai, who is still recovering in the hospital.
Guan Zai reports that Mr. Li is concerned about Yu Tu's single status because his "melancholic" habit of stargazing alone after work has captivated many young female colleagues, unintentionally hindering the romantic prospects of other bachelors. Guan Zai jokes that Yu Tu has also been "kicked out" of card games for winning too consistently.
He then reveals that Mr. Li wanted to know if Yu Tu had a girlfriend and suggests telling him that Yu Tu is interested in his high school classmate Qiao Jingjing, mentioning the widely shared gaming video of them in the company's WeChat group and noting Jingjing's apparent interest in Yu Tu.
Yu Tu turns somber, admitting his doubts about what he can offer Jingjing, citing his limited income as a researcher and his inability to consistently be by her side. Guan Zai, relaying his wife Shen Jing's perspective, insists that love cannot be calculated this way. Yu Tu acknowledges the truth but states that "objective facts always exist" and he "couldn't handle it." After a month of intense work, the field tests successfully conclude, with all rover functions meeting their targets.
The team celebrates with a festive meal and a group photo, enthusiastically declaring, "Our journey is the sea of stars!" Back in his room, Yu Tu writes a heartfelt letter to Jingjing. Reflecting on his journey, he apologizes for his past insensitivity and expresses gratitude for her steadfast presence, acknowledging her profound message about him being "the Rabbit who's seen the most stars." The next morning, as he mails the letter, a colleague teases him for being "old-fashioned."
Upon returning to the institute, Yu Tu immediately convenes a meeting to discuss modifications to Project "Number One." He proposes renaming it "Search for God," a name suggested by Guan Zai. Yu Tu passionately outlines the project's grand mission: to explore the vast cosmos in search of the truth about humanity's and Earth's origins, and to find evidence of other miraculous existences, thereby proving that humanity is not alone.
Colleagues praise his dedication, noting he worked on this even during the field test, and one jokingly points out his new, strict catchphrase, "Let's work a little harder." Meanwhile, in Shanghai, it is snowing heavily. Following her attendance at the Star Award, Qiao Jingjing is advised by Ms. Ling to attend a cocktail party hosted by a platform, as the director and screenwriter of her upcoming drama will be present. Jingjing agrees to change and attend.
At the party, where she is congratulated for her success, she makes eye contact with a man from an upper level. His expression changes as he recognizes her, revealing him to be her ex-boyfriend, Mr. Su.
