Chen Hongjun was promoted to section chief as he wished. Xiao Chunsheng invited Xiao Liu, Xiang Dong, Qi Tian, and others to celebrate with him. Qi Tian publicly expressed his commitment to making Xiao Yanqiu and their unborn child happy. After dinner, fueled by alcohol, Chen Hongjun asked Ye Fang for a child, but she firmly refused. They had agreed before their marriage not to have children. Chen Hongjun felt that Ye Fang didn't love him, and Ye Fang didn't want to explain further, which only fueled Chen Hongjun's anger.

The military was planning a major reduction in force, and the cultural troupe faced the fate of being disbanded. He Hongling didn't want to leave and pleaded with Captain Huang to help her stay. Captain Huang revealed that a few key personnel would be retained in the troupe. He Hongling asked Ye Guohua to help her stay, but he advised her to transition to civilian life and develop locally instead.

Ye Guohua and He Hongling took leave and returned to Beijing. Chen Hongjun invited them and their good friends to get together. Xiao Liu, Ye Guohua, and Xiang Dong arrived early, but Xiao Chunsheng couldn't make it due to other commitments. After leaving the military, Xiang Dong started a business and was doing well, which made Ye Guohua envious. Xiao Liu and Chen Hongjun added fuel to the fire, firmly believing that Ye Guohua was also good at business. The more Ye Guohua thought about it, the more unfair he felt. He Hongling didn't want to listen to his complaints and hurriedly went to the station to buy tickets. He Hongling's mother visited Qi Tian's shop to buy things, and he gave her some eggs and vegetables. He Hongling came to pick up her mother to go home. Her mother was searching for remedies everywhere, wanting He Hongling to have a child soon. He Hongling wanted to settle the matters regarding staying in the military first before making a decision.

Captain Huang announced the order to disband the cultural troupe, allowing them to perform one final show before they left. He Hongling sought help from Ye Guohua, but he had already applied for a transfer to Beijing. He urged He Hongling to go back with him, but she didn't want to take off her military uniform. Guo Heizi had all his assets seized when a batch of imported cigarettes he brought in was confiscated by customs. He came to Xiao Chunsheng seeking help, and Xiao Chunsheng agreed to inquire about the situation.

He Hongling practiced the piano day and night, wanting to give a great performance in the final show. Ye Guohua urged her to return to Beijing together, but He Hongling firmly refused. Ye Guohua earnestly tried to persuade her. Xiao Chunsheng learned from the warehouse manager Xiao Liu that Guo Heizi's batch of goods was imported cigarettes and couldn't be recovered due to suspected smuggling. Xiao Chunsheng had no choice but to confront Guo Heizi and advised him not to engage in illegal activities anymore.
