Niu Chunmiao heard that Wei Ruolai supported the neighbors in buying construction bonds. She had traveled north and south with her father since she was young and had seen too many people go bankrupt because of stocks and bonds. She complained to Wei Ruolai quite a bit. Wei Ruolai was confident in the construction bonds. He guaranteed that he would not let everyone lose money. Niu Chunmiao was so angry that she shouted and screamed, but it was no use.

Wei Ruolai watched the trend of the construction bonds every day. He found that the stock price was abnormal. Someone was selling off large quantities, while citizens were rushing to buy. He immediately called and informed Shen Tunan. Shen Tunan guessed that other banks were illegally selling off the bonds and was worried for those small investors. Kang Shaojie sent someone to inquire about inside information. The Ministry of Finance was preparing to redeem the construction bonds early.

Aunt Zhou heard the unofficial news from the Ministry of Finance and decided to put all her money into buying bonds. Granduncle advised her to quit while she was ahead. Aunt Zhou sent A-Wen to find Wei Ruolai to inquire about the news. A-Wen came to find Wei Ruolai overnight. Wei Ruolai felt that the construction bonds had already risen to eighty and reminded A-Wen not to borrow money to buy them. A-Wen truthfully told Aunt Zhou.

He was so excited that he couldn't sleep. Early in the morning, he went to a pawnshop owner to borrow high-interest loans. As soon as the construction bonds opened, they rose to eighty and continued to rise, all the way up to eighty-eight. Aunt Zhou, A-Wen, and the others were so happy they couldn't stop smiling. The bank presidents regretted selling the bonds too early. They came together to question Zhang Mingquan.

Zhang Mingquan told them to buy at ninety, so they had no choice but to bite the bullet and buy back the construction bonds. The more Wei Ruolai thought about it, the more he felt something was wrong. The construction bonds had risen too high, which had already gone against the original intention of rebuilding Shanghai. He expressed his concerns to Shen Tunan, who was also worried about being unable to control it.

Aunt Zhou, Jiang Huhao, and A-Wen and others made a lot of money. They were so happy they couldn't stop smiling. Granduncle advised them to quit while they were ahead. Wen Biao immediately told Kang Shaojie the news he had been listening to. Mr. Song called Shen Tunan early in the morning and instructed him to sell off all the construction bonds. Shen Tunan was forced to comply.

He had originally planned to start locking the positions today, but unexpectedly, Mr. Song suddenly changed his mind. As soon as the construction bonds opened, they fell sharply. Shen Tunan told Wei Ruolai to sell all the bonds he held. The bond price plummeted all the way to 40 and became uncontrollable. Small investors were full of complaints. Shen Tunan couldn't get through to Mr. Song on the phone.

Chiang Kai-shek gave him a death order, telling him to find out the truth about the stock market crash but not to make the matter public. Shen Tunan's mood plummeted to rock bottom. Wei Ruolai saw the stock investors crying and wailing. Yu Shiqing brought people to the exchange to get money. He had mixed feelings. Citizens surged onto the streets for demonstrations and protests, demanding severe punishment for the masterminds behind manipulating the stock prices.

Xu Nuo sent Shen Jinzhen to find a way to enter the exchange and get the list of large transaction data. Wei Ruolai advised Shen Tunan to find the masterminds behind the scenes. Shen Tunan advised him to give up early. The two had a fierce argument when their opinions clashed. Wei Ruolai was completely disappointed in the Nanjing government; he could no longer tolerate it.

He resigned on the spot and slammed the door and left, ignoring Shen Tunan's advice. A-Wen lost everything he had invested and was unable to repay the huge high-interest loan. He wanted to jump off a building and commit suicide. Wei Ruolai rushed to the rooftop and kindly tried to persuade him, promising to help him repay the high-interest loan. A-Wen felt life was unbearable; he jumped from the building and died instantly on the spot.
