Yuan Jinxia and Lu Yi found themselves aboard a ghostly ship. Upon seeing what appeared to be blood everywhere, a startled Yuan Jinxia jumped back, only for Lu Yi to coldly push her to the ground. She then discovered it was merely red dye. Yuan Jinxia deduced that night butterfly scales had been placed on the sails to create the illusion of a flaming ghost ship from a distance.

The ship’s interior was unsettlingly dark and filled with skeletons, yet Lu Yi remained unfazed. A frightened Yuan Jinxia hid behind him as they ventured deeper. They soon encountered a hallway filled with intricate mechanisms. Yuan Jinxia, attempting to fire her pistol, inadvertently triggered them. While she tried to discern a pattern, Lu Yi effortlessly navigated through the traps. Lacking his agility, Yuan Jinxia was forced to crawl on the ground to get past.

They eventually reached the control room, discovering that the ghost ship was an elaborate mechanical creation, with no people or actual ghosts aboard. As the control room began to flood, signaling the ship's imminent demise, Yuan Jinxia and Lu Yi urgently sought a way back, only to find their escape route gone. As Yuan Jinxia grew anxious, Lu Yi abruptly asked if she could swim before throwing her into the water.

In the water, she noticed wax oil floating on the surface. Realizing that the official ship's water level hadn't significantly changed despite the supposed loss of cargo, she deduced the wax was for waterproofing, not just moisture protection. This meant the birthday gifts were likely still hidden on board. Following this realization, she discovered a secret compartment beneath their ship, where the birthday gifts were indeed stored. As she accessed them, masked assailants suddenly dragged her underwater.

Just as she ran out of breath, Lu Yi appeared, rescuing her and pulling her back to safety. Yuan Jinxia awoke on the official ship, her clothes changed. Yang Yue reassured her that he had changed them with his eyes closed. Learning that Lu Yi had impounded the birthday gifts, Yuan Jinxia rushed to confront him. She marveled at the array of treasures, but Lu Yi questioned her knowledge of the items, suggesting she intended to embezzle them.

He demanded to know how she found the hidden treasures. Yuan Jinxia meticulously explained her deductions about the water level and the wax oil, concluding that Assistant Commander Wang's Imperial Agent was the mastermind. Lu Yi then ordered them both to be brought for questioning.

When Yuan Jinxia asked how he had unraveled the ghost ship mystery, he explained that its creators had placed magnetic stones on its hull, causing other ships to be involuntarily drawn towards it and allowing them to steal treasures during the ensuing chaos. Meanwhile, Yan Shifan gathered several officials to admire a painting of "Along the River During the Qingming Festival." Elsewhere, Assistant Commander Wang expressed relief at the recovery of the birthday gifts.

Under joint questioning from Lu Yi and Yuan Jinxia, the Imperial Agent, Sha Xiuzhu, confessed. Wang attempted to take the gifts, but Lu Yi stopped him. He revealed that one of the paintings, "Autumn Eagle," was an imperial item previously given to Altan Khan. Lu Yi warned Wang that his association with these items, which the Emperor was secretly investigating, could lead to severe punishment, implying a connection to General Guan. After Wang departed, Lu Yi interrogated Sha Xiuzhu further.

The agent, with a self-righteous air, claimed he stole the gifts to aid the poor but vehemently denied any involvement with the ghost ship. Unconvinced, Lu Yi asserted that such an elaborate plan couldn't be a solo act. When the agent refused to divulge more, Lu Yi swiftly subdued him and ordered Cen Fu to take him to the North Bureau, a place where even death was a luxury.

Witnessing Lu Yi's ruthless demeanor for the first time, Yuan Jinxia was visibly shaken and hid behind Yang Yue. Lu Yi searched the recovered gifts but couldn't find General Guan's personal notebook, crucial evidence he needed. Convinced it must be in the two missing trunks, Lu Yi ordered the guards watching Sha Xiuzhu to be withdrawn, setting a trap for his accomplice.

That night, Xie Xiao boarded the ship to rescue Sha Xiuzhu, who, sensing a trap, urged Xie Xiao to prioritize recovering the two missing trunks instead. Yuan Jinxia unexpectedly encountered them, and Xie Xiao took her hostage. She frantically pleaded for her life, claiming to be a lowly constable from Department Six and a useless hostage. Just then, Lu Yi appeared. Xie Xiao charged at him, and in a desperate move, Sha Xiuzhu shoved Yuan Jinxia into Xie Xiao's path.

Lu Yi restrained his power, but Yuan Jinxia still sustained a scratch on her neck. In the chaos, Xie Xiao escaped and retrieved the two missing trunks from the water. Furious over Yuan Jinxia's injury, Yang Yue nearly came to blows with Lu Yi and later warned her to stay away from the "cunning as a serpent" guard. Soon after, the group arrived in Yangzhou and was greeted by Prefect Wei Ying.

He introduced them to the powerful Wu'an Sect, which controlled local shipping, now managed by Shangguan Xi, the Chief of Vermilion Bird Hall. They witnessed her harshly whipping a disloyal sect member. Yuan Jinxia rushed forward to stop the illegal punishment, just as Xie Xiao appeared. Lu Yi recognized him as Sha Xiuzhu's rescuer. As Xie Xiao squared off with the officials, Shangguan Xi intervened, reminding him not to cross the authorities.

Before being led away, Xie Xiao cast a lingering glance at a bewildered Yuan Jinxia. Later, Shangguan Xi urged Xie Xiao to return home to his ailing father, but he refused, revealing he had run away three years prior when his father tried to force him to marry Shangguan Xi, his martial arts senior.
