On a rooftop, Yuan Jinxia playfully shared a secret with Lu Yi, revealing she once kissed him at Maple Col to administer medicine. Lu Yi recalled her excuse about an injured lip during that time and subtly smiled. Misinterpreting his reaction, Yuan Jinxia claimed he had forgotten the incident and declared she didn't need his gratitude, as she had been left with no other choice. Lu Yi sighed and sat beside her, asking how she had felt then.
Yuan Jinxia chuckled, stating she barely remembered. Lu Yi's eyes held an unreadable glint as he proposed they try it again to recall the memory. Yuan Jinxia gasped, quickly refusing and insisting she couldn't take advantage of him again. However, Lu Yi asserted his authority as her superior, telling her she must obey. Yuan Jinxia, caught in his words, obediently leaned towards him, but at the last moment, she instinctively recoiled.
Lu Yi, without a word, pulled her into a long, cherished kiss. Min, who had arrived to amuse herself at Yuan Jinxia's expense, witnessed the deep embrace and stomped away in a fit of anger. Later, Yuan Jinxia drifted to sleep on Lu Yi's shoulder, and he gently placed a hairpin he was carrying into her hair.
Meanwhile, in the capital, Liao presented a jar of blossom wine to the Emperor, claiming his foster father, Yan Shifan, drank it nightly to maintain his health. The Emperor, upon hearing this, was displeased, musing that Yan Shifan was an "old fox" for keeping such a good wine to himself. The next morning, Yuan Jinxia awoke in her room with a pounding headache, unable to recall the events of the previous night.
She discovered a beautiful hairpin adorned with a skylark and the character "Xia" in her hair. As the Hairpin Competition was scheduled for the following day, a maid brought a newly made blue dress from Madam Chunyu, complimenting the hairpin's design. Curious about its origin, Yuan Jinxia sought out Lu Yi. He cryptically remarked that he had seen the hairpin in Cen Fu's possession.
When confronted, a surprised Cen Fu reluctantly confirmed Lu Yi’s story, explaining that when Lu Yi asked him to take the drunk Yuan Jinxia to her room, he decided to give her the hairpin he had bought earlier on a whim. He claimed to have given it to Yuan Jinxia as she was the only girl he knew in Hangzhou. Yuan Jinxia, pointing out the "Xia" character, questioned the coincidence, but Cen Fu feigned ignorance, suggesting it was simply fate.
Yuan Jinxia appeared visibly disappointed, having harbored a different hope. On the day of the Hairpin Competition, Yuan Jinxia appeared in the elegant blue dress. Her transformation stunned Lu Yi, who gazed at her with clear admiration, while Yang Yue also noted her unusual appearance. Madam Chunyu was puzzled, as she had ordered a pink dress, but still complimented Yuan Jinxia’s fair skin, saying the blue dress suited her uniquely well.
Yuan Jinxia shyly glanced at Lu Yi, who quickly averted his gaze. As they set out, Lu Yi remarked that she looked like a girl from a respectable family. Yuan Jinxia playfully suggested that perhaps one of her ancestors had indeed been an important official, to which Lu Yi jokingly told her to keep silent. Xie Xiao and Shangguan Xi soon arrived, followed by Mr. Sima Chang'an, a mysterious figure who always wore a mask, arousing Yuan Jinxia's curiosity.
Madam Chunyu distributed spider boxes to Shangguan Xi and Yuan Jinxia for the Qiqiao festival, prompting Min to scoff that their usual sword-wielding habits might lead to embarrassment. Unfazed, Yuan Jinxia declared her intent to join the competition, and Shangguan Xi readily agreed to accompany her. During the competition, Yuan Jinxia, Shangguan Xi, and Min competed in various skills.
Yuan Jinxia struggled with embroidery, accidentally pricking her hand, and also lagged in calligraphy behind Shangguan Xi and Min, drawing head-shakes from Lu Yi, Xie Xiao, and Yang Yue below the stage. However, in the final artistic display, Yuan Jinxia shone, playing the Konghou beautifully while Shangguan Xi performed an elegant sword dance to the music. Lu Yi was visibly captivated, recalling a similar performance by Yuan Jinxia in the capital.
His eyes were fixed solely on Yuan Jinxia, while Yang Yue's gaze was entirely for Shangguan Xi. Simultaneously, Zhai Lanye met with Dong Qisheng. She advised him to prioritize the mission assigned by Yan Shifan and stay away from the Wu'an Sect, despite his past grudges, before informing him that Yuan Jinxia was currently in Hangzhou. Shangguan Xi was announced as the winner of the Hairpin Competition, chosen by the votes of all the gentlemen present.
Following the results, the young women proceeded to worship the Seven Fairies and make their wishes. Yuan Jinxia glanced at Lu Yi, silently wishing to confirm if he harbored feelings for her. Opening her spider box, she found a web formed inside, a sign that her wish would soon come true. Yuan Jinxia then sat beside Lu Yi and asked if he had cast a vote and for whom.
Lu Yi deflected her question, instead praising Shangguan Xi's sword dance as "amazing." Yuan Jinxia felt a pang of disappointment. Only after the crowd had dispersed did Lu Yi lean in and quietly whisper to Yuan Jinxia that only the sound of her music had truly touched his heart. Elsewhere, a painter completed a portrait of Shangguan Xi, but Yang Yue, gazing at it, declared that the real person was far more beautiful than the painting.
Suddenly, a mysterious, debilitating mist was released from a lantern, causing widespread panic. In the ensuing chaos, Yuan Jinxia, Lu Yi, and many others were separated. The smoke was potent, weakening even skilled martial artists like Shangguan Xi and Yang Yue. Min was seen with Mr. Sima in a small room, expressing her fear. Dong Qisheng then appeared, taking control of the situation.
He announced that he sought only money, promising to release the captives once their families delivered the ransom. When someone defied him, Dong Qisheng swiftly killed them, terrifying the remaining dignitaries. Shangguan Xi noticed that Yuan Jinxia, Lu Yi, and Xie Xiao were nowhere to be found. Dong Qisheng immediately ordered his subordinates to search diligently for Yuan Jinxia, emphasizing that Chief Mao wanted her at all costs. Unbeknownst to him, Lu Yi and Xie Xiao had also escaped.
After discovering a distinctive Japanese tattoo on one of the pirates, Lu Yi realized they had motives beyond ransom. He sent Xie Xiao to alert the authorities while he went to find Yuan Jinxia, rescuing her from a room just as pursuers closed in. In the capital, the Emperor pointedly mentioned the blossom wine to Yan Shifan.
Yan Shifan quickly offered an elaborate excuse, claiming he feared the wine's medicinal properties might interfere with the Emperor's regular medicines, and promised to immediately deliver all the jars from his residence. Back at the scene of the kidnapping, Min accidentally knocked off Mr. Sima's mask, revealing a hideous scar. Her scream alerted their captors. Shangguan Xi, having regained some strength, devised a plan to capture Dong Qisheng.
Yang Yue bravely created a diversion, feigning a severe stomach ache to lure some of the guards away. Shangguan Xi then confronted Dong Qisheng, but just as she had him cornered, government soldiers arrived. Dong Qisheng swiftly threw a powder, grabbed Shangguan Xi, and fled. Yang Yue, desperate, chased after them. Yuan Jinxia, seeing that Shangguan Xi and Yang Yue were gone, grew anxious, and Xie Xiao immediately went to search for them.
Back in the capital, Liao, having provoked the Emperor's interest in the wine, came to apologize to a furious Yan Shifan, who dismissed him in anger. With no news of Yang Yue and Shangguan Xi, Yuan Jinxia became distraught and insisted on searching for them herself. Lu Yi cautioned her that Dong Qisheng, to evade the pursuing soldiers, might abandon them as a burden, possibly even harming them. Xie Xiao, angered by Lu Yi's bluntness, retorted sharply.
Yuan Jinxia, disheartened by the dire possibility, returned to her room. Lu Yi, seeing her distress, promised he would find them. Elsewhere, Dong Qisheng's men had indeed captured Shangguan Xi and Yang Yue, with Yang Yue showing signs of having been beaten. In other news, Yan Shifan's associate reported that Lin Ling remained missing despite extensive searches, blaming Yang Chengwan's persistent interference. However, he added that there was good news from Hangzhou, with their plan nearly complete.
