Yuan Jinxia found herself in a dilapidated room, feeling a profound chill as the poison in her system began to take hold. She drifted into unconsciousness, experiencing a vivid dream. First, a gentle voice sang a lullaby, then the scene shifted, and a young Yuan Jinxia was crying on a bustling street, desperately searching for her mother. Lu Yi soon discovered Yuan Jinxia in the small hut. Believing her end was near, she was surprised yet saddened to see him.
Mustering her last bit of strength, Yuan Jinxia begged Lu Yi to fulfill the request she had made in her letter. Lu Yi, however, adamantly refused, declaring he would not allow her to die so irresponsibly. Yuan Jinxia murmured that if she truly didn't survive, he should not feel guilty, as she had no regrets. Lu Yi then removed his wrist strap, his mother's cherished keepsake, and placed it on Yuan Jinxia's wrist.
He explained that it was a memento he treasured and that she could not fail the hope he was placing in her. As Yuan Jinxia stared at him, Lu Yi firmly declared that giving her the wrist strap was his command for her not to die. Lu Yi carried Yuan Jinxia back to Lin Ling's wooden cabin, where Xie Xiao, Yang Yue, and Shangguan Xi immediately gathered.
Seeing Yuan Jinxia's fading strength, they were overcome with emotion as she coughed up blood. Lin Ling, after checking her pulse, went to prepare medicine, vowing to do everything in her power to save her. She then spoke to Lu Yi privately, explaining that Yuan Jinxia’s condition was dire, and only a miracle could bring her back. Lin Ling revealed the only remaining hope: an ancient prescription to fight poison with poison, using the essence of seven extremely deadly plants.
She admitted she had never used it before and was uncertain if Yuan Jinxia could withstand it, but they had to take the gamble. Once the medicine was ready, Lu Yi administered it to Yuan Jinxia. After drinking the potion, she began to tremble violently. Lin Ling explained that her survival now depended entirely on her fate. While Xie Xiao and the others desperately sought more solutions from Lin Ling, Lu Yi watched Yuan Jinxia's agony with despair.
He had never believed in gods or Buddhas, but in that moment, he prayed for their intervention to save her. Lu Yi then leaned down and gently kissed Yuan Jinxia's forehead. Shortly after, her fingers twitched. Outside, Xie Xiao, overwhelmed with grief, pounded a tree before collapsing to the ground in heartbroken sobs. Yang Yue remained quiet, his silent suffering no less profound.
Shangguan Xi sat beside Yang Yue, offering comfort and a handkerchief, reminding him that as long as Yuan Jinxia still had a faint breath, there was hope. Meanwhile, at the palace, the Emperor, feeling unwell, collapsed after consuming an elixir. Upon hearing the news, Lu Ting immediately ordered elite Embroidered Uniform Guards to the palace to protect His Majesty. Everyone kept vigil over Yuan Jinxia throughout the night.
Finally, Lin Ling announced that her life was saved, bringing immense relief to all. Xie Xiao and Yang Yue rushed to her side, expressing their joy. Lu Yi, though standing quietly to the side, watched with clear delight. When Yuan Jinxia woke and loudly declared her desire for meat, his affection was evident. Shangguan Xi, with great sensitivity, suggested to Xie Xiao and Yang Yue that they should leave, allowing Lu Yi and Yuan Jinxia some private time.
Yuan Jinxia held up her wrist to show Lu Yi the strap, remarking that since he commanded her to live to guard it, she truly didn't die. Lu Yi, after telling her that her salary would be doubled, left the room. Yuan Jinxia felt a pang of disappointment at his seemingly cold departure. However, looking at the wrist strap and recalling Lu Yi's intense care for it, her heart swelled with happiness. Meanwhile, the awakened Emperor summoned his ministers.
During the discussion of the elixir incident, the Emperor confined Mr. Xu, who had recommended the alchemist, to his mansion. The Emperor then asked Lu Ting to stay behind, inquiring about his views on the matter and entrusting him with the investigation. Xie Xiao was furious with Lu Yi, blaming him for Yuan Jinxia's near-death experience and threatening to beat him.
He declared his intention to take Yuan Jinxia away once she recovered, asserting that if Lu Yi couldn't protect her, he would. Elsewhere, the Chief, who had sent men to track Lu Yi, was surprised to learn that the Blue Hairpin poison in him had been neutralized, turning his attention to Lin Ling's apparent ability to cure it. Yuan Jinxia was finally well enough to get out of bed. At the dining table, Xie Xiao insisted she sit beside him.
However, Lu Yi intervened, pulling Yuan Jinxia behind him to sit by his side. Caught in the middle, Yuan Jinxia found her own seat, only for Lu Yi and Xie Xiao to sit on either side of her. Yang Yue, having noticed Lin Ling drinking Tieguanyin tea, prepared moistened pancakes, a Fujian delicacy, hoping to give her a taste of home. Shangguan Xi commended his thoughtfulness. Lin Ling then announced that this meal was a farewell.
Upon hearing that Yang Yue's father was Yang Chengwan, a head constable in Department Six, Lin Ling and the Beggar were startled, though Lin Ling quickly claimed she had mistaken him for an old friend with a similar name. During the meal, Xie Xiao sarcastically commented on Lu Yi serving Yuan Jinxia and challenged him to a fight. Lu Yi calmly conceded, stating that honor was a useless trap. Shangguan Xi then asked what was truly most important to him.
As memories of his time with Yuan Jinxia flashed through his mind, Lu Yi declared that affection held the utmost importance. Xie Xiao then openly professed his love for Yuan Jinxia again, causing Shangguan Xi to lose her appetite and quietly leave. Seeing Xie Xiao's confusion, Lin Ling sighed at his naivety. Later, Shangguan Xi sparred with Yang Yue to vent her frustration.
She confided that she had joined the Wu'an Sect at a young age and, out of gratitude to Master Xie, had long regarded Xie Xiao as her future husband. Yang Yue's heart ached for her, noting she always prioritized Xie Xiao's feelings over her own. Shangguan Xi confessed she could never act like other women, fearing that if she were self-willed, Xie Xiao would grow tired of her. She felt she lacked the confidence of those loved unconditionally from birth. Yang Yue gently reassured Shangguan Xi that, in his eyes, she was far better than she believed.
