Xie Xiao thrashed in his sleep, repeatedly calling out Yuan Jinxia's name. Lu Yi, visibly annoyed, stepped out of the small wooden cabin. Yuan Jinxia soon followed, finding him staring intently at the bracelet she had previously damaged. Noticing his earlier fury over it, she asked if it was a love token from a girl. Lu Yi corrected her, explaining it represented "everlasting family love" rather than romantic affection.

He shared a poignant memory from his childhood: his mother often played the "Peach Blossom" for him, and on one joyous night, his father, Lu Ting, returned home early to join them. This happiness was tragically cut short when intruders suddenly appeared and killed his mother. Lu Yi revealed he had secretly carried a string from his mother's broken instrument, stained with her blood, ever since as a memento.

Yuan Jinxia expressed her deep sorrow upon hearing his story, and Lu Yi advised her to return inside as dawn approached. Later, Yuan Jinxia awoke to Lu Yi returning with wild fruits he had gathered. He told her Xie Xiao had gone to hunt pheasants, and Lan Qingxuan had likely followed. Suddenly, they heard horses approaching. Intrigued, they investigated and found two horses, but their discovery was interrupted by an ambush from black-clad assailants.

Amidst the chaos, Lu Yi and Yuan Jinxia managed to mount the horses and escape. During the chase, Lu Yi's precious bracelet slipped from his grasp. Yuan Jinxia, noticing it, turned back without hesitation to retrieve it. Witnessing her reckless act, Lu Yi immediately gave chase. Yuan Jinxia, holding the bracelet high, waved to him just before she was almost captured. Lu Yi intervened swiftly, pulling her onto his horse.

Once they were safe, Yuan Jinxia playfully returned the bracelet, urging him not to lose such an important item again, then departed, oblivious to the profound emotion on Lu Yi's face. Yuan Jinxia awoke from a vivid dream where Lu Yi held her hand and embraced her by a lake. She chastised herself for indulging in such a romantic dream during a dangerous time, especially one involving Lu Yi, yet found herself captivated once more while watching him rest.

Meanwhile, Shangguan Xi was led to a desolate place by a subordinate, Fei, who revealed he was forced to betray her because his mother had been captured. Dong Qisheng then appeared, confirming he had orchestrated the trap using a myasthenia poison. Dong Qisheng feigned a polite invitation, but Shangguan Xi rebuked his forceful methods. Elsewhere, Yang Yue, distracted from tending a fire, was consumed with worry for Shangguan Xi.

He was troubled by the memory of her drunkenly lamenting her unrequited love for Xie Xiao, and his concern grew to the point that he decided he must go check on her. Back at the cabin, Lu Yi informed the others that Japanese pirates had located them, urging everyone to pack and depart immediately. Suddenly, the distinct sound of a bamboo whistle filled the air, signaling the arrival of the "mad villagers," who began rushing towards their dwelling.

As they scrambled inside, Lan Qingxuan seized an opportunity to escape on a horse, leaving the others behind. Trapped, Yuan Jinxia deduced that the villagers tracked by scent, noticing that a nearby flower's scent matched that on the villagers. She instructed Lu Yi and Xie Xiao to place the flowers in their hair, a strategy that worked, allowing them to pass the villagers unharmed. Shortly after, Lan Qingxuan reappeared with Chieftain Shi, explaining he had clarified the misunderstandings.

Chieftain Shi invited them back to the village for a formal apology and a celebratory drink. During the communal dinner, Lu Yi and Yuan Jinxia grew suspicious when Lan Qingxuan was noticeably absent and were told he was resting due to illness. At the same time, the weakened Shangguan Xi was presented with a feast by Dong Qisheng. When she defiantly refused his attempts to feed her, he brought in her captured Wu'an Sect members, including a remorseful Fei.

Dong Qisheng ordered his men to brutally beat them in front of Shangguan Xi, attempting to break her will and force her to join his sect in exchange for power. Enraged, Shangguan Xi vehemently rejected his offer. As Dong Qisheng threatened to torture her people one by one, Yang Yue burst in to rescue Shangguan Xi, but he was quickly overpowered and captured. After dinner, a village woman led a seemingly inebriated Yuan Jinxia to a room.

Once the woman departed, Yuan Jinxia, who had merely feigned drunkenness, set out to find Lan Qingxuan. Meanwhile, Shangguan Xi, now bound alongside Yang Yue, chastised him for his reckless rescue attempt. Yang Yue, however, found comfort in their shared predicament. Yuan Jinxia discovered Lan Qingxuan tied up in a dark room. He confessed that his earlier escape was to get help, but he had to reveal their official identities to gain the chieftain's trust.

He then revealed the terrible truth: Chieftain Shi planned to sacrifice Lu Yi, Xie Xiao, and Yuan Jinxia that very night by sinking them into an ancient well to suppress an ominous spirit. While Xie Xiao remained sound asleep, a suspicious Lu Yi stepped outside and hid upon hearing approaching footsteps. He watched as Chieftain Shi's men entered the cabin and carried the sleeping Xie Xiao away.

Lan Qingxuan further explained to Yuan Jinxia that the Shi people had guarded the ancient well for generations, believing a terrifying man-eating dragon resided within it, which demanded a living sacrifice every three years. Alarmed, Yuan Jinxia rushed to Lu Yi's room, only to find it empty. Realizing the grave danger, she ran to the ancestral hall and, upon seeing the ancient well, leaped into its depths without hesitation. After Yuan Jinxia had departed, Lu Yi found Lan Qingxuan.

Lan hastily recounted how he had discovered the ancestral hall and its ancient well upon first arriving in the village. He revealed his encounter with a boy named Xiao Xin, who was hiding in the well, searching for the "Dragon Lord." Xiao Xin had shared the legend that the Shi people had guarded the well for 2,000 years for a trapped evil dragon that required a human sacrifice every three years.

Recognizing the dire peril Yuan Jinxia was in, Lu Yi immediately raced towards the well. Meanwhile, Yuan Jinxia had already reached the bottom. She observed mysterious murals on the stone walls that appeared to depict a story. Discovering a hidden mechanism, she activated it, revealing a secret door. Lighting a candle, she cautiously proceeded, only to shriek in terror upon encountering withered human bones. Pushing forward, she opened another door, revealing a furnished room where mysterious shadowy figures began to dart around, causing her to panic.
