On New Year's Eve, the Ye family gathered for celebrations. Mrs. Ye distributed red envelopes, and Li Susu received one, thinking to herself that she was well and happy, surrounded by family, and still hopeful for Tantai Jin. Tantai Jin, observing the warmth of the family, felt a pang of envy. Meanwhile, the Sheng King was informed that his assassins, sent to kill Tantai Jin, had failed to return.

This led him to believe that Tantai Jin harbored a mysterious force, and he resolved to eliminate both Tantai Jin and this hidden power. Tantai Jin received a message via a nightingale, indicating that someone was looking for him. The messenger was Lan'an, who had left years ago. Lan'an had initially sought to return to the Yiyue Tribe to secure their aid in rescuing Tantai Jin from the palace.

However, the tribe was in turmoil; the old chief had died, and the new one, fearing the Jing Kingdom, refused to interfere. To establish herself, Lan'an married the new chief and spent twenty years becoming the High Priestess, bringing the entire tribe under her command. She had now returned with the Moonshadow Guards to save Tantai Jin. Tantai Jin knew Lan'an couldn't control birds.

He discovered that Nian Baiyu, the leader of the Moonshadow Guards, possessed this ability, having an exclusive nightingale. Lan'an urged Tantai Jin to return to the Yiyue Tribe, believing it was his home and only his tribe truly cared for him. However, Tantai Jin refused. He explained that both the Sheng King and the Jing King wanted him dead, and returning to the Yiyue Tribe would only bring disaster to his mother's clan.

Instead, he intended to return to Jing Kingdom to reclaim what was rightfully his, as only then would he possess the strength to protect himself. He instructed Lan'an to have the boat ready at the ferry by morning, stating he had one more matter to attend to: absorbing the demoness Pian Ran's power to strengthen himself for the perilous journey.

As Tantai Jin prepared to leave the Ye mansion, he felt an unfamiliar reluctance towards a place he had considered a prison. Ye Xiwu approached him, carrying firecrackers. Though they weren't particularly impressive, she used a Sketch Charm to create a magnificent fireworks display. Ye Xiwu promised that as long as she was by his side, they could be this happy every year, unaware of his impending departure.

They shared a moment enjoying a snowball fight, where Tantai Jin jokingly admonished her for a sneak attack, saying he had put up with her for too long. Late that night, Ye Qingyu visited Pian Ran. Drunk, Pian Ran mistook him for Jiang Rao, repeatedly asking where he had been and expressing her joy at his return. The next morning, the Ye family gossiped about Ye Qingyu's all-night absence, assuming he had met a girl.

Mrs. Ye even declared she would accept her as a daughter-in-law, even if she were a widow or a demon. Ye Xiwu, recalling a strange scent on her brother, suspected he had encountered a demon. She decided to seek out Scholar Pang Yizhi for help, and to her surprise, Tantai Jin offered to accompany them. Internally, Li Susu noted that the Devil God was showing a willingness to help others, a positive sign.

Pian Ran awoke to find Ye Qingyu in her home and angrily hit him. Ye Qingyu explained that he had intended to leave the previous night but she, in her drunken state, had clung to him. He then revealed that she had saved his life three months prior during the Jiaguan battle, amidst the smoke on Mount Mituo, and that he had recognized her as a demon from the start, having once been an outer disciple of the Xiaoyao Sect.

Realizing her identity was exposed, Pian Ran decided to take back the cultivation she had lost saving him, kissing him directly to absorb his essence. Ye Xiwu, Pang Yizhi, and Tantai Jin arrived at Pian Ran's home to find her absorbing Ye Qingyu's vital energy. Ye Xiwu confronted her, but was shocked when Ye Qingyu protected the demon and was accidentally knocked unconscious by his sister.

Ye Xiwu admonished Pian Ran for using a "crooked path" and offered to help her find a proper cultivation sect. Enraged, Pian Ran revealed her true form as a heptatail fox and attacked. Ye Xiwu was outmatched, and Tantai Jin intervened to save her, allowing Pian Ran to escape. Separating from the others, Tantai Jin found Pian Ran first and began absorbing her demonic power.

Ye Xiwu caught up and, seeing the horrifying scene, immediately attacked Tantai Jin, demanding to know when he had learned demonic arts. His disappointment at her lack of trust was palpable. In the chaos, Pian Ran cast a fox charm hex on Ye Xiwu and fled. Under the spell's influence, Ye Xiwu acted seductively, forcing Tantai Jin to knock her unconscious and carry her away. Back at the ferry, Nian Baiyu questioned Lan'an's motives.

Lan'an admitted that her true purpose was to prevent Tantai Minglang's succession, which would be detrimental to the Yiyue Tribe. Knowing Tantai Jin's cold nature yet deep desire for care, she chose to hide her utilitarian motives, believing that acting selflessly would better ensure his cooperation. Tantai Jin arrived with the unconscious Ye Xiwu. Lan'an questioned why he was taking her, and Nian Baiyu suggested killing her to boost their morale, citing her past disrespect.

Tantai Jin replied that while Ye Xiwu was foolish, her father commanded the Sheng Kingdom's military, and he intended to use her, killing her only after she had served her purpose. Meanwhile, the Ye family was distraught over Ye Xiwu's disappearance. Pang Yizhi arrived to report that Ye Xiwu had been taken by Tantai Jin after their attempt to capture a demon went awry.

Upon hearing this, Xiao Lin expressed concern that the Sheng King would blame the Ye family for the hostage prince's escape. He immediately ordered Chen Xian to dispatch Dragon Guards to seal the city gates and search the entire city, specifically sending a team to the east city ferry, which led to Jing Kingdom, to intercept all boats. Ye Xiwu awoke in the boat's cold cabin, bound by Ruo-River ropes.

Tantai Jin approached her and mocked her naivety, revealing that her attempt to poison Ye Bingshang with the Love Fury poison was a plot he had manipulated. He had swapped their desserts, ensuring Ye Xiwu would be the one affected so he could marry her and escape the Sheng Kingdom palace. He further clarified that nothing intimate had happened between them on their wedding night, as he would rather endure the agonizing pain of the poison than touch her.

He also revealed that Yingxin had gone mad because she had been plotting to poison him on Tantai Minglang's orders. Ye Xiwu, reeling from the revelations, declared that they were now completely estranged. Tantai Jin coldly retorted that she had no future, as he never allowed anyone who knew too many of his secrets to live.
